Everyone is talking about the RUMORS that the iPhone might be coming to verizon, no I am not asking if they would or not.

Almost everyone on here doesn't have true knowledge of what is going to happen, it is all speculation.

The reason I am posting this is to get info for myself and others on what apple might be doing. I know Verizon has 90 million or so costumers, and have heard that they might be making a CDMA/GSM world iPhone.

But I want to know from a business perspective what benefits/cons their will be for apple to make a phone on all carriers or world phone, or one on verizon. I am not asking for technical information, But perhaps someone saying that iPhone will not negotiate on Verizon not having voice+data or something that makes sense on why or where apple will open its market too. Like saying that android is on many networks and if apple is tied to one network they will not be no. 1. I just want a real answer with a solid point on what we can expect carrier wise or hardware wise on the next iPhone, that makes sense from a business perspective concerning Apple, Verizon, AT&T, ETC.

Here's the REAL answer. Any other posts you can ignore. ;)

Verizon's commercials of late pretty much have burned any bridge for getting the iPhone.

Verizon turned down the iPhone when it was first offered, since they wanted more control than Apple would ever allow.

Verizon is not getting the iPhone any time soon.

I agree.
No other wireless provider has ever attacked a cellphone as much as Verizon has by taking continuous shots at the Iphone.
They became really childish.
You never saw AT&T attacking the sidekick or blackberry storm etc....
They have no chance in hell Apple would even bother with them and their dieing CDMA technology.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

I agree with the other posts. iPhone to t-mobile in 2010 is my guess.

Plus all the verizon/apple feuding has probably made the verizon execs really bitter so i cant see them possibly sucking it up and taking one for the team (do what apples wants them so there customers will have a iPhone)

Even the ones that agree with you -aggie-?;) I do agree, it is doubtful that it will go to Verizon. But unfortunately, we don't make the decisions at Apple, Inc., so we could all be wrong.

News flash. The responses you get in this thread are going to be completely made up and they'll still be RUMORS.

I wanna know why Apple hasn't made car stereos yet! Please tell me the REAL reason!

What you've said here is true. And it completely obviates the the need for this thread.

One thing you can be certain of: the next iPhone will still be on AT&T. Whether it will be on Verizon as well as AT&T is what's up in the air.

This post has my absolute backing up. I can't stress how much Verizon WILL NOT get the iPhone.

Everyday they steer farer away from it with ads and attacks at the iPhone.

To be fair,
Verizon has been bashing AT&T's service with the map ads, NOT APPLE. and the one with the misfit toys showing the phone with lots of apps (iPhone) with the crappy map is punished for going to the bad kids which is AT&T's coverage. But the ads are targeted at AT&T not Apple. Although the recent iPhone commercial that shows voice+data is directly against Verizon, IMO it was apples way of showing that although the Verizon ads are not directly at us, AT&T is still the exclusive provider of the iPhone and Apple was just protecting AT&T a little bit. Voice+Data is a big thing for a lot of people. Plus I read somewhere that both companies have agreed to stop suing each other, although that doesn't meant the commercials will stop, but I think they have both agreed to take it down a bit.

"There's a map for that" is an obvious parody of Apple's "There's an app for that" slogan. Plus there was the iDon't, Droid Does commercial which was a direct hit at the iPhone.

Anyways, no one here knows. There is no real answer until Apple makes an announcement.

My personal opinion is that Apple isn't going to waste the time and money to develop a CDMA iPhone for one carrier that just so happens to be abandoning CDMA in a couple years for LTE. And I don't think we'll be seeing an LTE iPhone anytime soon, they were behind the game on 3G and will probably be behind on 4G too. If any other US carrier got the iPhone, I think T-Mobile would be more likely since they're GSM, but even then Apple still has to produce a special iPhone for T-Mobile's oddball 3G frequency. The iPhone is going to remain exclusive to AT&T at least until an LTE iPhone comes out, and perhaps not because of any exclusivity contracts (although I'd imagine Apple and AT&T are in talks to renew) but maybe just because AT&T is the only US provider to use the same technology everyone else in the world uses, at least for the time being.

Hello, this is a Canadian and European citizen reminding you that there is a world outside of the border of the US. Apple would never release the new iPhone as a CDMA only device at this point or even bother with a "world" phone. The iPhone 3GS is already a "world" phone because it is available all over the world and can be used all over the world. I don't care how many subscribers Verizon has. That number is irrelevant. What is relevant is how many Verizon subscribers would be unwilling to switch to AT&T for the iPhone but willing to buy an iPhone on Verizon only. I suspect that number is way too small for Apple to bother.

Verizon had a window of opportunity before the original iPhone was launched but after the iPhone 3G was launched in so many countries (who all use GSM/3GGSM (aka UTMS or HSPA), Verizon getting the iPhone as a CDMA carrier had a snow balls chance. After the 3GS was launched in even more countries, the US market has become even less important to Apple than it was when the 3G launched.

Verizon's leadership is incompetent. They should have an HSPA+ network rivalling the Canadian carriers but instead they have sat on their thumbs collecting money from customers promising LTE "someday".

Well put.

Agreed. The sad face in my post was for the fact that we don't make the decisions at Apple, not that the iPhone wouldn't be coming to Verizon.

I agree with you about the world phone part 100% and how the numbers that are not willing to leave are not that big a deal to apple.
And CDMA is getting outdated, GSM seems and eventually LTE seems like blu-ray in the hddvd v. bluray battle. But sprint already has WI-MAX out and who knows it could win.

However, the their is a map for that part is right, lol i forgot about that part of the commercial it is making fun of the iPhones phrase, but its main point is how ****** AT&T's coverage is.

And the iDon't commercials are 100% from MOTOROLA, Verizon said that they did not make the commercial, it was all from Motorola, if it was from verizon than yes verizon would have a much smaller chance of getting the iPhone, because Verizon would be letting Apple know Android is better than the iPhone, we don't need. However that's not the case, many people are still confused over who the ads are directed too.

The AT&T ad (not the apple one showing the iPhone using web+data) but the AT&T and the apple one for that matter are both aimed at verizon.

But the Verizon ads are 99% aimed at AT&T. Believe me if Verizon was GSM they would kill for the iPhone. But it does seem like a hassle for Apple to make a CDMA version.

However since the iPhone is not just exclusive to AT&T around the world. The only other GSM competitor in the US is T-mobile, and yes alot of people would buy it, but people who really want the iPhone on T-Mobile can use it for text+Talk+2G (maybe 3G as well I'm not sure)

But if we are all wrong and Apple does make a CDMA+GSM iPhone it might be good to make it for Sprint as well, think about it, Apple is a business and if they want to appeal to 90 million Verizon costumers why not make a Sprint version and Appeal to 45 or so million more.

Who knows what they'll do. But a CDMA phone could sell almost as much as all foreign GSM sales combined.

The North American market alone accounts for almost half of all iPhone sales. It's widely predicted (and makes sense) that a CDMA capable model could easily double those sales.

If so, CDMA users would become one third of the iPhone world. That's not a small market in anyone's book.

Remember, not everyone in a CDMA carrier will buy an iPhone or has the resources to buy one. Hence the number is small to even bother.

I look at it this way...we can all talk until we're blue in the face about what "might" or "could" happen, but the truth is none of us work for Apple (that I'm aware of) and none of us know what they have planned. Anything other than an official press release or keynote speech or product demo is hearsay, plain and simple.

And, for what it's worth, these are major corporations we're talking about...they change their minds like most of us change our socks. The dollar/pound/euro/etc. is what rules their decisions, not necessarily what's "best" for consumers.

No matter what, you can count on Apple expanding beyond AT&T in the next year or two. Otherwise, continuing their pace of growth will be next to impossible. Apple isn't stupid. They are trying to expand to as many companies as possible in Europe and Asia. There's no question they will be doing the same in the US when their contract with AT&T is up.

..... Apple decided having control of their product was more important then the usa cdma sales. I really dont see them going back on that decisions. And since verizon is still gaining customers (albeit not as fast as at&t) i dont see them accepting defeat and allowing apple to have the contract they want.

And as for other carriers. Is sprint or t-mobile really a upgrade from at&t?

Having T-Mobile would be sweet as their plans are very competitive and cheap. Also, their network if really virgin territory for smartphone users.

It'll force AT&T to rev-up their game.
Their plans are cheap because the coverage sucks.

The fact is t-mobile is too small of a company to really make at&t turn it up a notch. Ironically the only company that can do that is verizon:D
