I just don't understand how people aren't bored with smartphones, yet. When I got my first, back in 2011, it was an iphone 4s, and it absolutely blew my mind. I loved it and used it all the time for just about everything.

But that was thirteen years ago, and my current phone is still basically the same thing. It's a slab of glass. It has apps. It makes calls, sends texts, plays the same types of games--it's just a thing now, like utilities or a t-shirt. So when I still see people mindlessly obsessed with their phones, I'm always like... how?

It boggles my mind.

Am I as excited as I was when I first picked it up 13 years ago? Of course not. But the iPhone by far continues to be my most used device, and I don't mean just to watch videos and procrastinate. I use it in a professional work setting where it allows me to step away from my laptop and not be chained to my desk. For me it's essentially a mini computer in my pocket.

Quite! I have a friend who goes for coffee with me every week or so. She spends the entire time huffing and puffing at messages on her iPhone, cursing about this that and the other, constantly prodding and poking it whilst trying to hold conversation and drink her coffee. I turn my phone off and put it in my pocket and enjoy some time out during my day. She often asks me how I seem so calm and relaxed and can just sit and enjoy my coffee (or words to that effect).

Hmm, I wonder what the difference is...

Possibly, but did Huawei drop their prices as well or did the Chinese salaries go up, as all those buyers seemingly had a sudden rush of upgrading?
Prices actually increased compared to the predecessor P60 series. The starting price for the Pura 70 series is 5,499 yuan ($760), the maxed-out top model is 10,999 yuan ($1520).

Quite obviously you should recommend her the MacRumors forums for some calm and relaxation.

I’ve often felt this way about cars and refrigerators and televisions and computers.

Who would have thought Apple and Tim Cook price gouging would lead to sales dropping?
Who would have thought selling a stupid phone for less would help sales go up?

I needed to upgrade my Apple TV because they no longer allowed features on my version because it's Apple. I passed on it once I saw the price for a stupid device that isn't even the best in the industry. I got 3 Firesticks for less than 1 Apple TV. Love the firestick and it is way better than the Apple TV. From the remote, to the interface, to the OS itself.

I have an extra tv I wanted to hook up to something for watching sports on the patio and at tailgates, etc…

I have Apple TVs all over yet I bought a Google TV Chromecast thing with a remote… it was $30

Apple TVs are wildly overpriced

I feel like it has gotten even worse in the last revision maybe?

In fact, another tendency may be even more prevalent on MR!

News reports or comments critical of Apple are debunked, decried, or rationalized away, while good news or intriguing reports are accepted as fact even if based on questionable sources or limited, flawed, or unknown samples.

A lot of these reports are about things like Apple trying to make as much money as possible and treating developers as ****. The first I don't mind and the second I support.

Or reports critically of Apple's closed system. And I am pretty strong supporter of Apple's closed system and I think it's worth protecting.

Pretty funny reply there, obviously would be somebody’s remark. But frankly speaking we deserve a price cut in Japan since we do buy enough for the phones.
Not sure that is how it works lmao. In that case I alone deserve a credit for all
The apple stuff I’ve brought lmao.

If only the amount of products you buy equates a discount lol.

Everything has. They force you to upgrade the iCloud to $9.99 plan because they don't allow your iPhone to back up to a Mac in a compressed format. They know your stupid Mac doesn't even come with a hard drive that can support backing up your iPhones data.

The popularity of smartphones continue to amaze me. It’s a device made for procrastination. Social media, YouTube, Netflix - literally everything unproductive is readily available in your pocket wherever you go and it takes no effort to waste meaningful time of your life day, in and day out. Here’s the kicker: we give smartphones companies thousands of dollars, sometimes yearly, to help us erode away our time. Are we that careless about out precious time on earth, time that we’ll never get back?

And yet here you are distracting yourself to distract us from our phones.

Business model, if you want sell more in market place. where you have a stable market you increase sells by inserting Incentives. Japan, apple use to have Incentives sold many. But now there are regulations. Prices Apple high, they (prices were low) use to push (lower prices) upon provider selling phones. Does Apple really want sell more Phones in Japan. Apparently not.

Does that chrome cast support Apple services such as Photos, Apple Music, airplay mirroring, podcasts, Apple Arcade, in addition to apps like Infuse and Play?

Sounds like you get what you pay for.

I'm not sure what your point is. Apple could easily make Airplay an open standard so you wouldn't need an expensive box for every TV but they'd prefer to squeeze every last penny out of their customers. The poster you were replying to was saying the Apple TV is overpriced and you didn't do anything to dispel that point. You only pointed out that Apples locked ecosystem is the reason we have no choice but to buy an over priced product to use services we're already paying for. You'd think that after buying a $1,200 phone and subscribing to multiple Apple services they'd make it easier to use those things without demanding even more money but apparently enough people will defend this that they feel no pressure to relent.

One would think ... and hope...

But alas, as you said, the defenders are out in force, with open wallets, so why change!?

Stockholm Syndrome in full effect in Apple land

There’s a difference between an item costing more and it being overpriced.

To me, it’s precisely because I have already bought a $1200 phone that it makes zero sense to then want to be stingy in other areas like accessories and apps. I know Apple products aren’t cheap. I know they all work well together and I know the purpose is to entice users to buy more Apple hardware and subscribe to more services, and I went with my eyes open and willing to spend.

In for a penny, in for a pound. If I weren’t willing to embrace the Apple ecosystem in its entirety, I wouldn’t even have entered in the first place.

I get that you're saying that you don't mind being price gouged but wouldn't you at least prefer to have other options available? Even if you prefer to buy only Apple products surly you realize that without those options Apple has little incentive to innovate. At one time technology seemed to be headed towards a cross compatibility utopia where everything worked together in harmony. Then one day everything just pivoted towards locked propitary systems that enrich large companies while making the end user experience worse. I truly don't understand why anyone would want anti consumer systems but here we are.

There are a lot of people in this world, as kids get older they need smart phones people upgrade every 3 years
, just a fyi the same 100 million people aren’t buying iPhones every year.

Some people just don’t understand, iPhones have barely increased in price last 6 years. Some people are just cheap and want a deal on everything they buy…. It’s funny how many people complain about prices.

Sales “recover” while, when Apple was asked to explain their results compared to independent research groups like Bloomberg, Tim Cook said,

“I can’t address the data points, I can only address what our results are, and you know, we did accelerate last quarter. And iPhone grew in mainland China, so that’s what the results were. I can’t bridge to numbers we didn’t come up with.”

Sounds like someone had to find a way for their made up numbers to align closer to reality before they’re even MORE wrong before the next quarterly results :D
