Oh please, oh please, oh PLEASE say it ain't so!

These hands can barely type in landscape, typing in portrait is not an option.

If this is true I will no longer be FB'ing from my iPhone or iPod. This is tragic! :(

I guess this isn't the end of the world and seeing as they totaly rewrote the app I could see them putting landscape back into the next update. If not oh we'll I gess I will have to deal.

My husband an I were both very aggravated to find this out! We both type in landscape mode. Typing in portrait, even with small hands, is a pain in the rear and causes many more typos. We'll definitely be giving Facebook some feedback on this issue. I sure hope they change it back with the next update or I'll be deleting the app and visiting FB via Safari instead.

Who cares? Landscape on the iPhone isn't that useful anyways.

I do and I don't like landscape - prefer typing in portrait - but for those who prefer landscape I'd like to see them have the choice.

Otherwise I like the new FB app overall, at least it isn't as slow as before.

Slightly off topic but I've made typos in typing this way and sent the message without noticing the mistakes and no longer can swipe from right to left to delete my post ?

Observation about Facebook iOS app for iPhone

So the new Facebook app (5.0) for iOS iPhone and iPod Touch is only compatible in portrait mode. Previous versions could be used in either portrait or landscape.

I'm wondering if this is how future iPhone apps will be, only designed for use in portrait mode since the screen is (expected to be) elongated. Does Facebook expect the elongated screen and that influenced their design, or is it a coincidence and they just happen to dictate portrait only usage at the time when Apple releases an elongated screen?

I think they just wanted to make it as minimal as possible so it would be as fast as possible. Most of my apps use landscape or have the option to.

The app itself is portrait however when you zoom into pictures they will rotate to landscape. Doesn't help if you are a landscape typer though.

I'm not sure you read my post. I'm not saying it's a problem or that it requires a solution. I'm wondering if it's evidence of how apps will be designed for an elongated screen.

Not sure why they'd do that. I can flip to landscape still on my S3?

Is this a question? I don't how it looks on the S3. The S3 has a different screen ratio, so I wouldn't expect it to be the same as the fb app for the new iPhone.

NO I would never expect that to happen. Games could never work in portrait.. that would also mean they are removing cover flow from iPod.

It was a complete redesign so I'm sure they rushed through the things they felt most people wouldn't care about or need. I'm sure they will implement it in the future now that it'll be updates instead of an overhaul.

If it were evidence on how other apps will be designed, you'd see (many) other top used apps losing the ability to view in landscape as well.

If anything, with the elongation, I'd figure MORE apps would be written to take advantage of the extra width in the future.

That's exactly what they want. Use it on your computer ;)

Is it just me, or are there morons wasting their time and mine replying that they don't use landscape? WTF? If you don't have a problem using portrait, go ahead and use it. Those of us who need landscape have grown up things to talk about. Jeez!

Right - I always use FB in portrait and landscape photos rotate just fine. But what I need fixed is when FB spawns a web page in either Safari, or a page that looks like safari. On my 3GS those don't rotate. And if I zoom so that lines of text fill the screen width, the text is unreadable. Some pages it's too much of a faff to 'open in safari proper' so I end up scrolling left and right across lines of text like a lunatic. Fix this please, Facebook!

yeah, I hate that they took it away. I only type in landscape, so when using Facebook, I always turn my phone to be hit with the reality that the app doesn't flip

simple solution for now

Until the app is rewrote to include landscape, I just log into Facebook through Safari and can browse or type in landscape all day long.

Where does one go to give feedback to facebook?
