I also just ordered a case for it. I am able to use a little discount since I work for an Apple Vendor

instead of getting a new iPhone every year, I can now save that money and put into a Mac or iPad instead, which IMO gives much more value and usability than the iPhone.
This is kinda me. I estimate my personal use is around 85% iPad, 10% iPhone and 5% PC so I prefer to save money on iPhones while splurging on the iPad.

My last iPhone prior to the SE2 was the iPhone 7 back in 2016 and that one I practically got for free with iPhone 6 trade in.

I did upgrade the PCs recently but the old ones were Nehalem to Ivy Bridge era so ~8-10 years old and long overdue.

Hoping we get another Covid-19 Stimulus payment so I can upgrade my iMac, Right now my iMac won't upgrade to Big Sur. When I get my phone I'll have an iMac MacBook Pro and iPhone for Apple Devices

Coming from an 11 pro, the battery life is so much worse on the SE by an incredibly notable difference. It gets me through the day, but barely. As someone who has to wear a mask most of the day, Touch ID has been so much more convenient. I do miss swipe gestures a lot, and jailbroke just to get them back. I wish they were normally on Touch ID devices.

I’m sure people that bought it quite love it.

meanewhile, someone like me that wants the old SE form factor is still waiting

2nd that. I did buy the SE2020 though, red, 128GB. It’s a great everyday use phone although I had to buy another wireless charger at the office.

But, the phone is slightly too big. I cannot properly reach the top of the phone while using it single hand. While trying just that the phone also appears very slippery: the old SE has pretty sharp corners allowing a good grip, but this one? Nope. Btw I use my phone as a naked one, just protection with a sleeve. I just happen to dislike all those covers which increase the bulkiness of the phone.

I’m waiting for the iPhone 12 5,4”. If that one allows better handling, it will be an instant buy.

Ordered a 128GB SE a month ago, but had to send it back after 10 days. Battery life was a joke: it lost 40-60% of capacity during the night (not charging of course) without any activity (and all background activity switched off).

I presume it was a faulty battery and will order a new one, hoping it's not considered normal behavior of the SE...

Remels, that is not normal at all to lose 40-60% battery overnight. Mine uses maybe 5% overnight. My SE is still on iOS 13.4 though which it came with out the box, but there were reports that iOS 13.5 had a battery draining bug so this may be what happened with yours or it’s a faulty battery.

hopefully your replacement will be fine!

I wasn't aware of this bug, so maybe yes, that could have been the cause. Apart from that, I certainly liked the device, especially the overall speed and performance.

Nothing fancy, just a fast, small phone that gets the job done. I came from the first SE so it was a big upgrade for me. Both in size and performance. I had tried the XR previously but it was just too big so I gave it to my wife and waited for a smaller device. If the rumors are true, I will be getting the smallest iPhone 12 that is coming since it is rumored to be even smaller than the SE 2020.

The only reason I opted for iPhone SE is because mask use. While iPhone SE is great and super fast, the battery life is very poor. It won’t last me even for half day and I need to top it up with battery bank.

I carry two phones with me: iPhone SE and Motorola Moto G Power. Battery life is way better with Motorola phone. 5000 mAh battery easily last me two days without charging while iPhone SE is setting on a battery case.

Guess which device is my primary devices? To me battery endurance is number one and iPhone SE does not get passing grade for me.

How are the speakers, compared to the XS series or 11 series? I have read a few reviews but no direct comparisons to other higher end iPhones. I would be switching from an XS Max because I want to streamline my phone use, but I do love listening to podcasts around the house with the built-in speaker. I’m worried that the smaller, cheaper phone means smaller, cheaper speakers.

That’s good to hear. The work around that you have to do now you might as well unlock the phone. That’s been my only real gripe.
I can fit this phone in the front pocket of my jeans with it in an Otterbox Defender.
Yeah I didn’t like losing that functionality when upgrading. Now of course it’s Haptic Touch, so it’s not as “quick” of a response, but between this and not having it at all...I won’t complain!

I got one as a backup/secondary phone, still using my 11 Pro Max as my main daily driver. The first few days I didn't bother to set it up with my apps and stuff and I let it sit there just on Wifi, I noticed the battery drained to like 40% by the end of the day doing absolutely nothing.

I tried the same for a few days charging overnight and then unplug it in the morning and come back to check it in the evening and the battery is still mysteriously draining ridiculously fast. Reset the phone and tried again with the same results. Honestly quite disappointing as none of my previous iPhones have ever drained so fast just sitting there. I've looked under the battery health in Settings and it doesn't tell me what's draining it.

I have my old iPhone X and XS Max charged to 100% and unplugged in the morning, they still have like 90%+ battery at the end of the day just sitting there. I have no idea what's wrong with my SE, maybe I'll take it to the Genius Bar.

Honestly I had high hopes for this as it has the latest A13 chip and Touch ID which is great when we need to be wearing masks outside these days.

I have a SE that I use for work and run the PB iOS 14 on. Compared to my 11 Pro, the battery isn't that great -- but I also realize the battery is smaller on the SE compared to my 11 Pro. I would imagine that if I wasn't constantly on my phone, the standby battery time would be better. But again, I have tampered my expectations.

I do thoroughly enjoy the SE, especially the size and weight compared to my 11 Pro. The still prefer the OLED screen of the 11 Pro, but the LCD screen of the SE is pretty good too.

Yeah I’m curious about this too. My microphone and speaker are great on the 11 Pro and most of my phone calls are on speakerphone.

What have you found yourself using more? The SE or the 11 Pro?

I think the speakers are comparable. I'm no audiophile. But they are very loud and clear sounding to my ears.

Same, love using the SE2 for iOS 14 beta. Latest beta runs perfectly and I could use it as my daily driver now if I wanted to. Battery is terrible but I knew it going in and appreciate Touch ID when wearing a mask.

The Martini Cat thinks you should consider an iPhone 11 Pro "non"-max. It will have the good camera, the face ID, and enough size reduction so it will fit in your pants (oops, sorry, but you brought it up!) The 11 Pro is smaller than the too-heavy-for-cats straight-up iPhone 11 (I had to switch down for that reason because of paw problems), so give it a shot!

Get a regular 11 or the regular 11 Pro. The SE will seem like too big of a downgrade for you.

Currently on the 11 Pro Max but hate the size so much, it does not fit anywhere and I have to hold it in my hand everywhere I go.

Thoughts on switching from it to the 2020 SE?

Try the 11 Pro and see if that works for you. I’ve got the 11 Pro and am contemplating the SE, only cause I rarely use my phone as I use my iPad more though. Also for the lightness.

I've tested the SE with 18W and 30W USB PD chargers and there's actually no gain to be had. Because of the much smaller battery, the max the SE needs to draw to get to the fast charge definition of 50% in 30 minutes is 12W.

I figured the same, but tested with a watt meter and the 18W will charge the SE faster than the 12W. The 2020 SE pulls around 13.8 watts while charging on an 18W USB-C to Lightning adapter, so it does get a slight boost from it. Apple is careful with their wording, I believe they say the fastest charging on this phone is with the 18W adapter, but not necessarily that it will charge at 18W with it. It does charge ridiculously fast on the 18W though with such a small battery. I love it.

I finally moved from Android. It's a good phone, but in the end its just a phone to me. So can't say it lived up to the hype. But then I have a iPad so I know more or less what to expect OS-wise.

  • Cost (however I got it cheap at $70, after a 2yr $30/month plan)
  • Fragileness, I can tell right away this would break easily unlike the Androids I've had. So I had to get a $40 case that will protect it
  • More likely to be stolen, I've dropped my Android or left it in public places briefly as I walked away for a bit, but I know I can't do that with this phone
