I wonder if the SE will also have a camera control button seeing as it supports Apple Intelligence? In the iPhone 16 keynote, Apple showed the camera control button being used to activate some of the upcoming AI features.

Please lord at least 512gb and it’s a day 1 purchase for me. Or the $800 1TB 15 pro ebay it is then. The new 6.3” is not a compact flagship anymore because of both width and height increases it actually makes them mini-Pro Max versions. Most likely the upcoming SE is precisely the reason why they just increased the pros to further separate them.

I was in the market for an iPhone SE4 or iPhone 16. Admit it, we mainly use our phones to make pictures ...

However, I managed to replace the screen and battery of my iPhone SE2 for 40 EUR all together. Now there are two conditions for taking pictures: 1. the pictures need to look good, and 2. you need to take them.

Anywhere I go, I have my iPhone SE2 ready because it is small, and I have no fear to drop it or lose it, so I use it. A replacement screen of the iPhone 16, however, costs 380 EUR, which is more than my phone. Even if picture quality is (much) better, I believe I will just take less pictures because the device is too expensive to buy and to repair.

So I keep my iPhone 2 and will see if the iPhone SE4 is more reasonably priced (and has the camera controls).

I don't think most people mainly use their phones to "make pictures". I imagine things like texting/messaging, email, social media and other online activities are more common uses for most.
I agree, I rarely use my phone camera.

Just check how phones are promoted and what software gets most significant updates.

For iPhone 16 it couldn't be clearer: standard version is pictures, pro version is video.

Of course, you use messaging apps to share those pictures and people still communicate, but you can also communicate with a 3310.

Yes, but doesn’t changed the fact of what I use my phone for. Everyone is different, I hate taking photos.

Just because phone companies may do updates and try to use camera features as a way to distinguish one phone from another doesn't mean most users mainly use their phones for picture taking.

Do you know of any mainstream surveys or studies that show people mainly use their phones for picture taking?

I agree 100% I use my phone for Apple Music , Apple fitness plus to unlock my Apple TV which Apple forces me to start a workout 🤣. Also, social media, stock market 📈 apps and so on.

I really doubt that Apple would use a "binned" A17 Pro SoC on the iPhone SE 4. The final iPhone SE 4 will use the A18 SoC, especially for battery consumption reasons.
Maybe the A17 in the iPad mini was used so Apple could satisfy a TSMC contract or to save early stocks of the A18 for the iPhone 16 range. We could easily see A17 being saved for lower volume stuff like standard iPad in 12 months time, Apple TV refresh or perhaps even the mythical G4 homage HomePod with a screen.

They are both on the 3nm process, maybe the a17 pro might be a bit power hungry but that’s nothing that a bit of performing tuning in software couldn’t come to a workable compromise and the bigger battery ought to help too. Remember they are only looking to hit the same 10 hours video play back etc that the other iPhones do.

It then stands to reason that the delayed manufacturing start for the SE4 allows full ramp up so they can then potentially afford to use binned A18 CPUs instead just like previous mid season updates to the SE used the current chipset - only 6 months later.

Any idea how long the 2022 SE will support the latest version of iOS? If it will be another 2 years, then I think I will buy another one as backup before they discontinue it. After that phone, I will be forced to leave the Apple ecosystem. :(
Same here. They should keep an LCD phone, otherwise they will loose more clients

I think, Apple is delaying the iPhone SE 4 until spring 2025 because they want to ramp up enough A18 SoC production to accommodate the iPhone SE 4. The higher power efficiency of the A18 makes more sense for the iPhone SE 4 if they want reasonable battery life per charge on that phone.

It's sort of humorous how folks do not want all OLED iPhones, but here Apple goes..

..and folks are clamoring for OLED iPads in various sizes, and Apple just won't do it, save for the Pros

They have their compass flipped here :p

My 2020 SE still upgrades to the latest OS. What's your problem with the 2025 SE?

I'll probably get one, although I'm going to wait a few months after it ships. I just spent $69 getting a new battery in my 2020 SE, and it works like new.

OLED PWM. But also temporal dithering or other weird technologies Apple uses to make the cheap hardware they use appear better than it actually is. My eyes are not able to handle it. Instant eye strain followed by dry eye and eye pain followed by headache.
That's a real shame. I have blepharirtis, and have the same issue. Before you give up, try reducing the white point in Settings/accessibility/display & text size. Helps a lot of people with your problem.

Tried all kinds of things and nothing works. I’m tired of buying and returning products at Apple. I am planning to buy a TCL NXTPAPER phone when I can—can’t seem to find a reputable/authorized seller. If that doesn’t work I’ll find something else.

Apparently eye health is not a concern for Apple since this stuff has been going on now for years and they keep making things worse at every turn. First PWM, then temporal dithering, then jelly scrolling…next they will probably cook up something “AI” to make a cheap display look better instead of spending 5 bucks on getting the hardware right.
