On launch day, my 64GB iPhone SE arrived from AT&T and after a few minutes, it was up and running. I replaced a iPhone 6 64GB that my son was drooling over and used the upgrade path from his iPhone 5s.

I choose this primarily because I actually missed the smaller form factor. The iPhone 6 is/was and excellent phone, but sometimes just didn't feel "right" in my hands. I was also always nervous about putting it in my pocket as it was so thin.

After a week, the SE has impressed the heck out of me. It is blazingly fast ... much faster than the 6. I had initially done a side-by-side test of probably the slowest app I have, Facebook, and it opened on the SE at least twice as fast as the 6. But, as I have used it, I have noted that everything is faster from rendering web pages in Safari to opening apps. The camera its stunning ... not quite DSLR quality, but dang impressive for a phone!!

I have also begun to note some other interesting "hidden" improvements. Biggest one so far is the range of the BT connection between my phone and my Apple Watch. With the 6, I usually was disconnected at around 20 feet or so (as measured inside my home). For example, I leave my watch to charge at night in a downstairs office, but take the phone to the bedroom which is upstairs. About a 20-30 foot distance through walls and floors. With the 6, the watch was always disconnected. But, with the SE the signal remains. Last night, I was on a pool deck taking pictures of a water polo match and I noticed that my watch was still connected and exchanging data (notifications, etc.) with my phone which was at least 75-100 feet away. The 6 never did this. Impressed, I am.

The other real "wowser" is the battery life. It is dramatically improved. Yesterday, for example, was a pretty modest day, usage wise, with a couple of short phone calls, a fair amount of email/messaging, and some light browsing. When I went to bed, I was shocked to see I still had 65% battery remaining!! The 6, on a similar day, would have been around 30% or less for sure.

In summary, the SE is perfect for me ... and my son is loving the 6. Win-Win!!

But, I think Apple has managed to sneak in one heck of a device at a very reasonable price point ... a real sleeper.

Ken

I came from a 6, and I noticed the extended Apple Watch range and battery life too. I only got the SE because I always hated the size and thinness of my 6, so those 2 things were nice extras.

On the flip side I wish it had the faster Touch ID and Bluetooth worked better with my factory car kit, but overall I am very happy with the SE.

I think it will do pretty well over the long term, even if people weren't impressed by the first weekend sales. Parents will love this as a lower cost option for their kids, businesses will love it as a newer alternative to the 5S. And I think it will pick up more sales from the people who truly prefer the smaller form factor, especially those who might not yet be ready to upgrade due to having picked up a 6.

The SE isn't immediately impressive, but it will sustain long term success, which is exactly what Apple wanted. I'm going to pick mine up in a little while, downsizing from the 6S Plus. I picked up a Pro 9.7 yesterday, so I feel the SE will be the perfect complement to it.

That's a lot of functionality lost from the 6S+ to the SE.

But the value of that "functionality" is measured by how much one needs or uses it. My car goes 165mph, but I will never need a car that goes more than 90mph, ever, so if I can find a car that doesn't go 165mph but has most of the functionality and meets my wants and desires otherwise (i.e., way more comfortable to drive in), I'll pick the "less functional" car every time. Even if I have to pay more money to get it.

My thoughts exactly. Sure the 6S+ has 3D Touch and a better front camera but the SE costs half the price, has the same battery life, same amazing camera, is MUCH more portable/easier to handle (especially at the gym, etc.), and has an arguably better design (I've always preferred the look of the 5S to the 6/6S). Worth the "downgrade" to me.

Op I agree with your post mostly but let's clear up a couple of things.

1, Facebook launch times are due to the 6 being cluttered with a cache of data. Over time it gets larger and Facebook slows down.

2, it's not Bluetooth range your seeing it's your watch and phone using wifi. What people don't realise is when you first mess around with the watch it won't use all existing networks you have to remove and re add a network. I don't think it's a software bug more a router specific issue.

The device costs half the price, I'm not surprised there's some features omitted.

The 6s is not worth the extra money ($250) over the SE let alone the 6s plus as far as I'm concerned.

I dumped the 6s Plus primarily due to its ridiculous size regardless of the fact it is a great device. Same scenario had folks dumping their larger Ipad for the Mini.

I'm about to pick up the SE myself BTW. :)

I agree, the only features you really need are the ones you will actually use. I'm really pumped about the new SE and I will be buying one in December when eligible contract wise to replace my 5s. I will be keeping my 5s though in case the new SE gets damaged.

To me it was. 4 in is too small.

No, that's not what I'm talking about. You understand that the watch and iPhone only use wifi when they are both connected to the same wifi network, right? Otherwise they use Bluetooth. I have no wifi at work, and the Bluetooth range between my watch and SE is much better now than it was between my watch and iP6.

Twinning! And I agree 100%. The 6S/Plus are in no way worth the $250 and $350 premium over the SE in my opinion.

Actually, I was comparing apples-to-apples (pardon the pun) as what I'm seeing mirrors the usage and home networking I had with both the 6 and the SE. The SE clearly has better range in this situation, whatever band it's operating on.

And at the pool, there was no wifi so the BT range difference was significantly better.

Cheers!!

And that's why a lot of people will get the SE. It's a very intriguing device. I might have to get one. The batter life on my 6s is appalling. Love the phone overall, but the battery life just stinks.

Nice device if you want a small screen but what's intriguing about it? We have seen it all before.

How many "i love my SE" threads do we need. Are you all trying to convince yourselves you done the right thing?

So what's it to you if they do (post how much they're liking the SE)?

I don't get 617aircav and your posts.

We know the SE is not a flagship phone and that the technology in it...isn't the latest and greatest.

Seriously? You came on a thread that discusses a preference and are surprised that people express an opinion on one version? I swapped my 6 for the SE and I couldn't be happier, there I said it!

People aren't tools for having a preference even if that preference is temporary.
