On launch day, my 64GB iPhone SE arrived from AT&T and after a few minutes, it was up and running. I replaced a iPhone 6 64GB that my son was drooling over and used the upgrade path from his iPhone 5s.
I choose this primarily because I actually missed the smaller form factor. The iPhone 6 is/was and excellent phone, but sometimes just didn't feel "right" in my hands. I was also always nervous about putting it in my pocket as it was so thin.
After a week, the SE has impressed the heck out of me. It is blazingly fast ... much faster than the 6. I had initially done a side-by-side test of probably the slowest app I have, Facebook, and it opened on the SE at least twice as fast as the 6. But, as I have used it, I have noted that everything is faster from rendering web pages in Safari to opening apps. The camera its stunning ... not quite DSLR quality, but dang impressive for a phone!!
I have also begun to note some other interesting "hidden" improvements. Biggest one so far is the range of the BT connection between my phone and my Apple Watch. With the 6, I usually was disconnected at around 20 feet or so (as measured inside my home). For example, I leave my watch to charge at night in a downstairs office, but take the phone to the bedroom which is upstairs. About a 20-30 foot distance through walls and floors. With the 6, the watch was always disconnected. But, with the SE the signal remains. Last night, I was on a pool deck taking pictures of a water polo match and I noticed that my watch was still connected and exchanging data (notifications, etc.) with my phone which was at least 75-100 feet away. The 6 never did this. Impressed, I am.
The other real "wowser" is the battery life. It is dramatically improved. Yesterday, for example, was a pretty modest day, usage wise, with a couple of short phone calls, a fair amount of email/messaging, and some light browsing. When I went to bed, I was shocked to see I still had 65% battery remaining!! The 6, on a similar day, would have been around 30% or less for sure.
In summary, the SE is perfect for me ... and my son is loving the 6. Win-Win!!
But, I think Apple has managed to sneak in one heck of a device at a very reasonable price point ... a real sleeper.
