But at the same time, if you are looking to purchase cheapest iPhone, SE is the cheapest at $350 (vs. $450 for iPhone 6S that Apple still sells).

I wonder how many SEs over the last year sold at the $350 price point? And how many are subsidized by the carrier. Over a year ago I bought a couple people the $200 SE models. I figured if they wanted something bigger, they could buy on their own :)

If I didn't already have more phones for myself than plans, I would have considered a < $100 SE as a backup. Instead, I carry my X everywhere. The 7+ on a backup line when traveling (someone talk me out if I ever consider one of the big phone models again!), and a $40 subsidized android phone as my leave at home "home" phone with a $3/month plan.

An SE sized model with current tech and at least 64GB would be an ideal replacement for the 7+.

The SE came out in 2016

For me it's a bit more precarious..
I vastly prefer macOS, but the hardware situation and tradeoff choices they are forcing with the MacBooks puts my business squarely at risk...

If I had to buy a brand new MacBook Pro right now - I wouldn't, I'd buy another 2015 15"....but that train will run out at some point.

I used a Mac Pro as my desktop computer for 8 years then replaced it (though it is still sitting in a back room without drives in it) with a Hackintosh. Generally it went OK, but I got tired of issues like losing USB 3 support on a recent upgrade. After working with computers during the day, I lost the willingness to try to compile low level updates to get things like that working. I put Windows back on it, and migrated my desktop to a VM. (That OS instance stores my photo collection, etc).

My 2015 MBP is still the computer I use more often anyway. Like right now, on my lap.

The iMac Pro sounds nice, but is pricier than I want to spend at this time.

I frankly would love Apple to go all out on SE. A new iPhone model the size of iPhone 5S, with OLED and FaceID.

iPhone X style front design. iPhone 5S style sides and rear, and rear camera lens is flush with the finish. And only $100 cheaper than 5.8" iPhone X.

The only thing I would question would be the face ID implementation with a model with the size of the 5S as you indicated, being all the hardware components that the iPhone X incorporates under the notch, I’m not sure how aesthetic (Or possible) that would look on a 4 inch display.

Yeah, yeah. One guy's refusal to purchase doesn't matter at all to a trillion dollar company. We get that.

That said, Apple has lost sales from me too - I had regularly upgraded and would do so again, but held on to my 5S while waiting for a "new" SE, and then gave up and bought a used SE, which I'll hold onto for a while yet.

Every little bit matters, and sales of phones are flattening, especially at the high end.

You are getting ready to see a huge “hump” in that flattening, especially at the high end. And if Apple did it right, at the lower end, too.

I would buy that phone.
I loathe the slippery curved sides of the current phones, preferring the squared edges.

Rumor has it that it will be replace by the iPhone 9 Mini. Same size screen and chassis without the bezel and home button. Face ID! We will see on the 12th! If true I will get an unlock version in December!

Nice way to get our beloved SE into the phone line by introduce it as a Mini. Wonderful :)
My bet is no face-id and keeping the touch-id to keep the costs down. I don't mind, at all, if it's so.

But isn't it supposed to be bigger than the SE?

The display size would have to increase if overall device size was kept at 5s dimensions and FaceID was implemented, but your point is valid and the screen’s “ears” might be too narrow to be usable unless they can reduce the width of the notch. I think I’d prefer a small bezel top and bottom the height of the notch to allow for a screen with no ears/notch.

What rumour is that? Every report and leak indicates that there will be 3 devices. 1 will be the same size as the current X, and 2 will be bigger.

I would like to second this request for any sources…

Everything I have read and heard about indicates they were developing a true SE2 that was inspired by the current X but they decided not to go ahead with production (much to my sadness).

Here it is - my ideal next iPhone...

I would say that your ‘bet ‘ is blatantly wrong, considering Tim Cook said face ID *is* the future for the iPhone in last years 2017 Fall Keynote. By Apple backtracking in retaining touch ID would only resort in showing contradiction in their decision moving forward with a new future of biometric security with 3-D facial mapping. Even if iPhone SE is re-introduced this year or in 2019, touch ID is no longer likely part of Apples future.

I just want a smaller phone with wireless charging and fairly new camera/processor. I don't care if I have to use my thumb, face or other body part to prove its me.

I hope Apple continues the true one-handed device. If not, I’m sure it’ll make a return someday when this bigger and biggest mobile device fad dies down. I just hope my current SE will last me that long. If not, I hope I can find an Android equivalent. If not, I might try going back to flip phones for awhile. I do kinda miss flip phones.

All I really need (eventually) is a processor bump to my current SE. Camera upgrade would be the next most desired feature. Then increased storage.

Everything else is either already perfect as is or very low priority for me. Screen is already retina so I’m not sure why people want higher resolution which would require more battery. VR? Or are their eyes really that good?

Give me SE with A11 Bionic and an iPhone 8 camera and I would shut my damn mouth for the next 3 years. Come on Apple!!

Me as well.

I have a 64 GB SE and it no longer fulfils my storage needs. I don't want to shell out for an identical 2.5 year old phone at this point in time, so an SE with A11, iPhone 8 camera in the current casing would be perfect.

According to Guilherme Ramo (9to5mac, he's pretty reliable) and the reference found in Xcode's code there will be 4 devices, see: https://twitter.com/_inside/status/1032297865719308288

The T500/iPhone 9,7 looks like a SE replacement, but sadly there's nothing in the code to suggest the screen size. I see 3 options: 1) it's SE-sized (4" screen) with internals from the 7 + wireless charging; 2) it's 7-sized with 7 internals, but a different body (perhaps plastic body for wireless charging?); 3) it was just a test device and won't be released. Options 1 & 3 look the most likely...

Interesting..

BUT, no iOS device in the past has ever had a codename beginning with "T"..

HOWEVER, the 9,7 product number would be consistent with the 7-series devices, which were 9,1/2/3/4
And the SE product number was 8,4.. fitting nicely in behind the 6S and 6S+ at 8,1 and 8,2.

Perhaps the T codename is used for testing devices, rather than released, and so that reference is to the testing of an SE2, which some commentators have suggested is what happened: that they tested an SE2, but have decided not to release it.

Hmm.. confusing.
Ultimately, given the level of leaking and knowledge of new phones months in advance, let alone a week before, I feel that if there was going to be an SE2, we would have heard more about it by now. Unfortunately.

Great sadness here if the SE vanishes and is not replaced with one of the same size. I intensely dislike the bigger models as they are too fragile for me. I already use Otterbox Defender cases that add a lot to the size, so I'd need to get bigger pockets too!

Don't get me started on the MBP and the vanishing port fiasco, I've been using Apple since around 1979 and now I am, for the first time ever, seriously pissed off with the company. Bah humbug!

You're probably right, but it's also possible that the new SE will keep the exact same body, in which case there would be nothing to leak. Unfortunately, it would mean no wireless charging.

I guess we'll see next week.

Just purchased an iPhone SE 32GB outright with Verizon for $150. At this price point I still think it's a great deal!
