iPhone SE (2016) iPhone SE mostly discontinued, what alternatives are there?

The closest would be Sony’s Xperia XZ2 Compact.

From most accounts, it appears to be very good.

I wouldn't call that a viable alternative.

The Sony has nearly double the volumetric footprint compared to iPhone SE. Compared to the iPhone 8, the Sony is only narrower by 3mm but 65% thicker.
