I didn't misinterpret anything did I?
You said this:

Please take the time read more carefully. I never said It was the only reason. I said it was one of the sole reasons.

I did read it very carefully and you literally are not making sense with that sentence.

Sole reason = Only reason

You can't have "one of the only/sole reasons".
That's nonsensical (yet you got mad at me about it)

but rather you're using is causing the confusion.

Please stop editing your post after the fact. It makes it very confusing for discussion and the other readers, because you constantly backtrack and go back and re-edit what you posted. It's been three times since you have edited your post now. Please stop.

For a second time, I would be more than happy to discuss the iPhone SE, not debate your own narrative based on post edited comments.

Also, speaking of discussion:

The SE is a fantastic phone now, it will carry on being a fantastic phone for some time to come, iOS 12 won’t be a problem and I doubt 13 will either. Personally I feel like I’m over the need to constantly wait on rumours and worry about lifespans, we’re well past the point where things develop that quickly anymore. It’s not like the SE2 will have a 128bit processor and 10gb ram, it’ll be the same setup as the iPhone 8 minus a few features, which really isn’t miles away from what the SE is now.. The reality is, whichever one you buy, you’ll probably sell on and upgrade years before it’s even remotely stretched.

OP, open the box, sell your 6s while it’s still in sellable condition and hasn’t died on you altogether. Relax and enjoy your new, more pocketable phone.

You summed up my original feelings in buying it, before I started driving myself crazy second guessing everything.

Anyone know why there are such wildly different prices on the SE? My $249 Cyber Monday deal seems kinda pathetic next to the $149-199 prices I’m seeing thrown around. I guess I’m paying for convenience?

Mine was discounted as it was advertised as refurbished and locked on Walmart (in actuality, they sent me that was unlocked and open box from a year ago with a yellow tint but in iOS 10 I changed the white balance so it looked fine; then they sent me a new unopened unlocked one). My speculation is Walmart is moving old stock to get way for the new phone.

Likewise some prepaid carriers are subsidizing the phone. just was with iPhone 8, different carriers will subsidize different amounts.

I read also in the press the SE2 was aimed at markets in India. But not sure it is true. It is such a great phone and very pocketable too boot, I am sure there exists a niche market in the US. Every iPhone has a dated design except for the X, but the SE is classic and in this way, transcends time for its users.

I’ve no doubt they intended it for India and other developing markets, but in reality it’s a very popular phone elsewhere too, more than Apple expected. Here in the uk it’s everywhere - the presence of a headphone jack helps there as well (it’ll be interesting to see if Apple remove that from the SE2).

the $149-199 deals mostly apply to prepaid phones that are locked. I'm hanging on a bit for prices to dip a little more on an unlocked one

The X could possibly come close to that if one took advantage of those $300 off deals on the 64GB and then sold it after a year. I got the X for a day but returned it as I didn't like the narrow video screen, didn't see it as wowing me so much more than SE or 6s that I had to have it. I loved the gestures though. The face ID was cool too although it makes me nervous that apple is sharing that info with apps, I would like them to think out the security on it.

I am still thinking about the 8 plus as it has the X but with bigger video screen to my taste and the camera is good too. But I am hoping Apple will switch to USB C so I can ditch lightning. And I have a sneaky suspicion the X design will be refined next year and the notch will shrink. So I am in no hurry and the SE was a good choice.

ps I got my new SE on 9.3.2 and have not updated. If its not broke, why fix it?

I bet you're right about the notch. I'd like to see the cameras and other FaceID gear redesigned for a little more flexibility in position and distance. USB-C, who knows? I mean, what kind of logic removes the 3.5mm jack on the phones but keeps it on the laptops at the expense of having only a single USB-C connector on the laptop? ;)

I still love my se but wow what a difference in screen size. I am a small woman only 4’10 and my hands are child sized but I am having no problems with the size of the 10. My se is still beautiful. I love that it’s pink

My daughter loves the iPhone SE for her tiny little hands, but the headphone jack is the most important feature to her.

She claims that she'll switch to Android if she can't buy a newer iPhone next year that has a headphone jack. And for some reason that stresses me out, because she has no idea how to move everything from the iCloud to whatever Android users use, and she'll end up needing me to figure it out. I want her to stay with Apple - it's all I know, and she's committed to everything Apple cloud with her MacBook, iTunes, and iCloud photo library...

I would buy SE. I got a not pre-paid normal Brand New Sealed in box iPhone SE 32 GB for $190 on eBay. Cheap phone. It's snappy. The battery is lasting me 2 days on one charge. And for $190, if I break the phone, I won't cry, I'll just throw it away and buy a new one. Hell I could buy 5 of them and still have money left over for a beer over an iPhone X.

How old is she? It might (or might not) be an interesting growing up experience to let her know that you'll support her choice but it's up to her to make it work (or not) and let her give it a shot. But at least for me, right now, the important thing would be to quiet the parental urge to cover every possible future eventuality (and get stressed out about it, which is something I do naturally and very well ) and just try to enjoy the present moment. :)

Just get her a blue tooth headset, or the dongle works fine to connect your headphones to the X. If she used one she would see it is ok.

I'm just so thrilled there's a thread about something, anything, desperately, other than the X in here!

That said - I'd wait on the SE2 if I already had an iPhone I think would make it and be just fine for me until then.

I do hope that they have a SE 2 because honestly it would make more sense even though I find the SE too small to use. Apple products are getting more & more expensive every year. Not everyone can drop $800-$1000 on the newest iPhone.
Therefore, we need to balanced out the prices of phones. I know of some of my android friends that are waiting for the SE 2 to drop so they can switch to the iPhone as they are more budget conscious.

Oh, she’s just out of college but old enough that she doesn’t need me to hover and protect her. She’s got a real job and just bought a townhouse at 24. But I’m the guy my whole family calls with IT problems.

We’re all on iPhones iPads MacBooks and Apple TVs here. My wife and I like “read receipts” when we iMessage her, and we like to do FaceTime with her (and my wife and other two kids don’t have Skype like I do). We like to share photos with her with iCloud photo sharing. And we have family sharing turned on with iTunes so she can see shared content on her MacBook iPhone and Apple TV.

If she leaves for Android it’s not the end of the world, but it does complicate things when she’s mobile and loses access to the iCloud syncing features. We’ll have to somehow migrate her contacts and calendars to her google account, so when she makes changes on her iPhone her contacts are updated on her MacBook, and so on. I know she can have multiple accounts for contacts and calendars, so it’s just a matter of playing around with it.

But I have an adapter from amazon that I’m going to try that is small, flexible and light weight that gives my X and 7+ both a headphone jack and lightning to charge and will test it and show it off to her just in case.

I also have a more heavy duty adapter that can give my iPhone two lightning jacks for charging plus EarPods. And I can start off by giving her BT earphones or AirPods for Xmas.

It'll be interesting to see what Apple does, if anything in releasing an SE 2. I'd be very surprised to see Apple produce an SE2 that has the 7 internals with the current SE body.

That's my main worry also...

They seem so tone deaf to what some segments of the user base (all product lines) actually want that I fear they'll just make the "new SE2" just be old 7's and 7+'s, not realizing that there's a huge chunk of us that don't care at all about the price point of the SE, but rather we choose it only for the physical size.

Many may think I'm crazy, but I'd pay the same price for an iPhone 8 as I would for an SE2 if the physical size is same/similar to SE1.

I'm in it for the size.

You probably will get your wish. The effective increase in iPhone pricing gives Apple extra headroom to increase the price of an SE offering. If that SE2 is going to be $500+ then "I'm out". I'm in it for the price. :D

Don't worry - I'm sure that Tim "SKU Fest" Cook will somehow bizarrely sell an SE, SE2, 6s, 6s+, 7, 7+, 8, 8+ and X all at once.

They should probably just rename the iPhones by price point.

You could buy the "iPhone $300 (2018)" all the way to the "iPhone $1200 (2018)"

Remember when we used to laugh at the PC/Windows/other tech world product naming?
Apple is off the rails on product names nowadays..

My 29 and 27 year old sons are less immersed in the Apple ecosphere than I am, although the older one and his wife just bought Apple Watches because they liked mine. ;) The reason they've stayed with Apple in spite of Android frustrations is mostly how good iMessage is, compared to Android options. That, and probably the massive investment my wife and I (mostly me, to be honest) have made in iTunes content over the years. Best luck!

mostly how good iMessage is

So true - Apple was very smart to not go cross platform with iMessage.
It's the mother of all lock-ins..

It is frustrating though as I do have some family on the WinDroid side of things and not having them on iMessage sucks when sending out group photo messages, etc (and these are people who will *never* switch to Apple)

Bingo, well put (lock-in/frustration).

I just ordered her Phaser BT750 earphones during a flash sale on Amazon with a 3-yr accident protection plan for Christmas, and well see how she likes it. She's been using wired Nuforce NE600M budget earphones, which are about the same price and not terrible at all (she breaks them about 1x a year but has 3 spares for next time). So with her history I also bought her a spare of BT also.

My wife, son, myself, and other daughter all have an Apple Watch, so they won't be going away from iPhone, but the iPhone SE owning daughter is sticking to her FitBit which is coming apart at the seams (literally). She's getting a FitBit Alta HR for Xmas to replace her year and a half old FitBit HR.

She's still invested in her MacBook and Apple TV (iTunes ecosystem), but with iTunes working on Windows I wish they'd have a version for Android too.

I used FitBit products for YEEEEARs. :) When I took a look at what the combination of iOS, the Apple Health app, all of the related third party apps, and the Apple Watch could do for my health and fitness monitoring I was SOLD. Are there better individual products for specific activities or uses? Sure. Is there anything that, at least for me, wraps so much functionality into a single product and allows me to collect and slice and dice the data this way? Not even close. I totally sympathize with where she's at, but I still think there is a better solution out there. ;)

I would still get an SE now because I fear that a successor will be spoiled by having a 6/7/8 body, or some other bloated "budget" body of which there are so many in Androidland. The flagship successor to the 5S was spoiled by having a 6/7/8 body.
