I personally don't think there's an SE gen 2 in the works, at least not yet. The current gen works pretty well with iOS 11. Why fix something that isn't broken?

I'd be perfectly happy with a premium iPhone X that is just smaller than the current one.

I don't need my phone to be cheap or anything, I just want something physically smaller than the iPhone 6/7/8 bodies.

They probably wont. There isn't such a high demand for a small 4 inch display anymore, except for a small niche of people. Apple has shown in the past that it wants to make the most profit as possible. The iPhone SR was created due to a large amount of left over iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s shells being left over, and at the time many people still had an iPhone 5-5s and didn't want a bigger phone.

It’s true, there isn’t a massive demand for a 4 inch iPhone anymore. Mainly because of the capabilities with larger displays, Camera enhancements, larger batteries, etc. I do think you’re correct when Apple had leftover iPhone 5/5S casings, Which primarily were used for the SE. I think there is no expectation that Apple has to update the SE, and they never stated that they would continually update the SE annually, but being that it stands for “Special Edition”, it very well may have been just a one time offering.

There is still a demand for a 4 inch phone, and the casing for the SE is different to the 5 and 5S. They should just spec bump the current design to bring it inline with the iPhone 8 in processor and camera. If there is no iPhone SE 2, the SE 1 will be my last iPhone.

Because the SE is lagging behind now. It’s too old to be considered a good purchase at this poibt, unless it was on a big discount. I love my SE but iOS 11 has dragged down the performance and battery life.

Unfortunately, I think SE fans will have to "settle" for an iPhone 7 or 8 if they want updated internals.

I am certain that Apple will continue to have a smaller phone in their lineup. There's definitely a market for it.
Whether that will be SE2 or be called something else, we'll see.
I'm fine with my SE for now.

There is still a demand for a 4 inch phone

I acknowledged there is a demographic for a 4 inch iPhone, but I said there is not a _massive_ demand for a 4 inch iPhone. Significant difference between what I said.

Hence:

It’s true, there isn’t a massive demand for a 4 inch iPhone anymore.

Also:

They should just spec bump the current design to bring it inline with the iPhone 8 in processor and camera. If there is no iPhone SE 2, the SE 1 will be my last iPhone.

If Apple would have updated the SE, it would have happened already. It likely won’t be in 2018 anymore, but it doesn’t mean that they can’t update the SE at any given point. But as I mentioned before, there are no guarantees for the SE’s future, ad it very well could have been intended as a one time offering.

Cause it's like a 3 year old phone..

In my opinion, that’s not a great reason. The Mac Mini is going on 4 years since refresh and the base model is absolute junk. It’s unusable. The SE, on the other hand, flies like a speed demon on 11.3.

I’d personally like to see a redesign (shrunken iPhone 8 would be amazing) with a higher quality screen (higher contrast, better color, etc.).

I would be so happy with that, it would really stand out from the other iPhones, and stand as an amazing entry-level iPhone!

The SE was terrible with iOS 11-11.2.6. It works ok on iOS 11.3 and is sure to take a hit from iOS 12. The SE is based on 2015 tech which is slipping behind.

Is that supposed to be abnormal? You’re referring to a processor that’s almost 3 years old with the A9, which is superseded by newer iOS and specifications that other hardware will seemingly perform better. Thats the nature in general of tech that ages. The SE will only Continue to age even more when iOS 12 debuts in the Fall.

could we see the iPhone se 2 announced today in apples press release?
Reason could possibly be that people like me have an SE. I just want a budget iPhone and while I can lip my lips at the likes of Product Red iPhone 8, I’m never going to buy one. Nor will I buy another SE until this one becomes redundant. That might be 3 years into the future in my case. Clearly I’m guessing, but there might not be too much demand right now for ‘replacements’. Apple possibly quite happy for potential new SE customers to opt for an alternative from the current lineup.

After 2 years of using iPhone SE I must say I WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER used other cell phone except iPhone.
Every look on Samsung, Huwai, LG, outside and software remind me how I'm happy with my iPhone and how they are not for me.
I can't wait to see iPhone SE 2. But because thight budget I make decision to stay on iPhone SE and use iPhone 7 as primary phone. Sorry no money for 8 or 10 for now.
