i finally won a new iphone on ebay ... and after looking it seems the iphone doesnt have a serial number on the back ?

the one i won doesnt come with a box... how am i suppose to know what the serial number is ?

already searched but nothing showed up :)

anyway without having to use the iphone ?

i mean is it hidden somewhere in the hardware ? i dont think they,d make something without a serial number!

Another option is to plug it into a computer running iTunes. What do you mean by "without having to use the iphone?".

You could always take the phone apart but that would void any warranty.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

There should be a serial number on the back when you get it. It could be that it's hard too see if there is one or not through a picture.

On the original iPhone, both the IMEI and Serial No. are engraved on the back plate. Conversely, the IMEI and Serial No. on the iPhone 3G are printed on the back of the SIM card tray. The most convenient way to access the serial number of the device is to go Settings-General-About and scroll down to all important device ID numbers including SIM, IMEI, SN, and Modem Firmware.

Yeah, looks real.

The iPhone 3Gs don't have the serial on the back if I remember. Mine is across the room in the hands of my girlfriend right now but I'm pretty sure there is only the Model No./FCC info on the back.

That's actually a referb. (If I remember correctly, they have the sticker on the front to cover the screen like when you first buy the iPhone 3G unless they stopped doing that)

But I am more interested why he didn't turn on in the picture... or proof he unlocked it.

But a real iPhone still, you can unlock it your self anyways.

refurb! are you sure ? cuz im paying 500 for a new one not a refurb!

oh come on!

on the thread i had they said it should be no less than 500+ for a new one!

New iPhone 3G 16GB from AT&T: $299
Cancellation fee: $175

Looks like less than $500 to me. And...you don't have to pay for shipping or worry that you are getting scammed or ripped off.

You seem to have forgotten, first months bill and activation fee......so, more than $500....:p

true, but dont they then demand the phone back or bill you for the unsubsidized price?

I've heard that rumor before, but there doesn't appear to be anything about it in the iPhone Terms of Service.

I think the bottom line, though, is if you're willing to take the risk that the eBay auction might be a scam, there are fewer hoops to jump through than going the "traditional" route.
