So, I have spent the last 2 days jailbreaking my iPhone 3G (running 2.0.1). I have finally got everything set up just the way that I want it, with all apps, themes etc. in place.

And now Apple release 2.0.2!

I'm not complaining - Hopefully it will fix a lot of problems, but I'm not going to click the 'Upgrade' button in iTunes and hope it doesn't break my phone!

If anyone tests doing an upgrade on a JailBroken iPhone from iTunes, can they please post the results in here. Also, if anyone reads on another site how I can upgrade to 2.0.2 WITHOUT having to restore my phone, please post in here!

So, who is going to be brave and try doing a straight-forward upgrade?

Ha! I've been trying to jailbreak my 3G Iphone too these past couple of days but has not been successful like yours :( And actually I need to restore later when I get home because of that Kate Installer package rendering my "Phone" app on my dock useless even though I've uninstalled Kate, but I guess I'll probably restore back to non-jailbroken 3G Iphone for now and try this bug fix for now and wait till IPWN get an upgrade for this new release. I liked my newly jailbroken 3G Iphone especially for a noob pwner like me but it has been a bumpy ride and limited, hopefully more improvement to come but I do envy 2G Iphone owners who has a more stable jailbroken Iphones:D

Ok I have the following.
iPhone 2g
unlocked via pwnage
I recently upgraded to 2.0.1 and lost cyndia (which is fine with me) as long as the phone remains unlocked.

Now if I upgrade to the new 2.0.2 will it lock my phone'?

Ha well I am complaining, it takes a lot of time to get everything set up, and there's no way (that I know of) to backup your custom settings like themes, icon locations, apps installed through Cydia/Installer, media file, etc etc.

I'm going to wait this one out for now I think. I believe I'm one of the 2% because on 3G I get crap but I switch to Edge and get good signal, but I really don't know if its worth it to go through all the hassle. I'm on wifi mostly for data usage, I'm thinking I might just wait until the 2.1 upgrade comes out.

I'd like to know the answer to it too.

My phone was knackered anyway - something in Kate killed the actual phone app

So thought I'd give it a go

Was a 1st generation iPhone 8gb on 2.0.1 through pwnage

Just clicked the UPDATE button in itunes (not restore) and I can confirm im now running 2.0.2

It hasnt locked me out - I am still using vodafone - but it has got rid of cydia and installer, so no 3rd party apps

I must admit Im thinking of leaving it like this - as every 3rd party app I install crashes my bloody phone!!!

Just received my new iPhone 3G. [I had my service provider replace my first one, due to a crap battery .. which at this time looks as though the battery was normal, normal as in CRAP] .

Anyways, I am currently upgrading to 2.0.2, as iTunes asked if I would like to upgrade when I plugged the brand new one in. I figured i'd start there, then jailbreak it. I'm also wondering if this is going to affect stability on my new phone.

Will the Winpwn work with the latest 2.0.2. Apple has put out. My previous phone [that I now have to return to my provider] was successfully jailbroke when the software was 2.0.1.

Anyone?

Let us know how it goes...

I don't think we'll know if WinPwn works until you or someone gives it a try...

Mine seems to be running OK, now everything has been set up. While I was installing, I had to restart it about 20 times. So it's confirmed that upgrading will get rid of all my custom apps.

I'll wait it out then. Do you think that it's likely they will release an upgrade or just tell us to pwn the new firmware and restore it?

(To the mod who made this thread Unofficial - sorry, I didn't realise!)

I'm normally the first guy to jump in and try the latest, but 2.01 has been working so nice on my unlocked 1stGen that I am hesitant to upgrade and risk a relock. Surely someone out there is game enough to try it ?

Will be watching the message boards closely !!!!

well since 2.0 was hacked and they took a while to hack 2.0.1, im pretty sure that 2.0.2 will take a few days atleast... we will most likely have to redo the firmware and redownloaded all the apps

If you guys haven't read, the dev team is working on a way to upgrade without having to re-pwn. It's only for Windows now, but multi-platform support is coming soon. :D They just heard about 2.0.2, and will start working on it tomorrow. Let's hope it's an easy upgrade. :)

theoretically could one click upgrade in itunes (on a jailbroken 2.0 2g phone) and lose the jailbreak and everything, but be running the latest firmware, then use the upcoming quickpwn (hopefully will work on 2.0.2) to jailbreak the fw, then use ibares (http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48881&ibares) to get all settings and apps back with jailbroken 2.0.2 firmware?

that's my plan of action anyway, pending the 2.0.2 jailbreaking quickpwn

Pwnage Unlocked 2G Upgrade To 2.0.2 Successful

I have a 2G iPhone that had the 2.0 firmware update unlocked and jailbroken by the Pwnage tool. The upgrade to 2.0.1 did not require me to re-unlock the phone, so I figured screw it, I'll give it a go for you guys (and myself).

Well, I am happy to report that while I am not sure what exactly the "bug fixes" are that the patch provides, IT WILL NOT RELOCK YOUR PHONE. Have at it!

To be clear, I simply docked my iPhone and hit "Update" in iTunes and let it do the rest. Works fine.

Upgraded from pwned 2.0.1. Still hacktivated and unlocked! Jailbreak is gone, just like the last update.

Upgrade 2.0 + pwng unlock + update 2.0.1 + update 2.0.2

I confirm the following update wont break unlocks

2.0 customized with pwnage iPhone 1st gen 16Gb
unlock

update via itunes to 2.0.1
update now to 2.0.2

still the phone is unlocked and I'm using a Vodavone Sim although I'm now an AT&T network

Ciao

Can someone explain how this is possible? I'm new to this, and I'm assuming that the baseband unlock is what unlocks the phone. If that is correct, then does that mean Apple's FW update doesn't relock this?

I just upgraded my hacked 2G iPhone working on Vodafone Australia and it's working fine and is still completely unlocked.

Upgrade process was flawless.

Cydia and Installer have gone. (No great loss TBH).

Upgraded....

I had pwned 3g 2.0.1 and I upgraded today to 2.0.2

Interesting thing - all jail broken apps deleted and cydia/ installer gone BUT my Vista wallpaper stayed from the Vista theme....

As soon as I change it to the default Globe or w/e it stays on the Vista Wallpaper.

I was going to go in to the store to try to get a new one cause I scratched mine up bad but with the Vista wallpaper stuck like that and it not being in my wallpapers folder - they might catch on.... any ideas?

I upgraded my jailbroken 2.0.1 to 2.0.2. I have AT&T so I can't say if it's unlocked or not, I never unlocked my phone before and usually removed this from the custom install.

Anyway, for those who want their cydia back you can actually use quickpwn with the firmware 2.0.1 file to jailbreak your 2.0.2 without restoring. So far things have been running fine. I guess my iPhone's baseband has been unlocked now? Hopefully that won't cause any future conflicts with AT&T.

im in same boat as thread starter.

just JB'd my 3g 2.0.1, 1st time ever doing a jailbreak. im all happy with its setup, re-dl'ed all my lost apps and then got all my 3rd party apps and themes.

if 2.0.2 is worth it, guess ill have to re-do everything....

I already tried it - read my post

UPDATED to 2.0.2 - works fine - you just lose cydia/installer and 3rd party apps - everything else is fine - phone remains unlocked :)

Hi, I'm new to this jailbreaking thing. So now that a new Iphone software is out, if we want to jailbreak it, we have to wait till pwntools upgrade their software first right? And then also we have to get a new IPSW version? Upgrading the pwnage tool software is easy but where will we get the new IPSW version? Will it be also announced here in the forum and a link will be provided just like before? Pwng Tool has nothing to do with IPSW right? we need to have that file separate for pwng tool?

Ok I upgraded to 2.0.2 , and all still works (unlocked still) so i am uber happy.
The funny thing is I now have the apple on the startup on the phone again instead of the pwnage pineapple which is not important to me either way.

I cant see what they improved with the 2.0.2 upgrade, but if future updates allow the unlock to work and the jail break not to , then I am fine with this.

I just wish apple would allow programs like netshare to work via their online store.

They might be able to tell...

Well, seeing all these people having success updating to 2.0.2 makes me want to try it at work when I get there.
