Hey guys,

ok I am having the same problem. Except, here is the story, I have bought this iphone 8gb from a friend, because they changed cell phone companys. And I thought it would be ok, to just erase all contacts and settings in the iphone and i can resett it as my own with my sim card, well, I had went to the erase button and i was waiting for it to boot back up, but all it does now is that it turns off then comes back on with the silver apple. and then i can see that its trying to upload and everything but then it freezes for i dont know a few minutes and then cuts off and does it again. HELP! what can I do? I have itunes but since this wasn't originally mine i guess itunes wont recognize it. ugh is there anything that i can do besides taking it to At&T or an apple store, and if I take it to them, do you think it will cost me anything? thanks for your help, if you can help. I would really appreciate it!

omg! nevermind! i think i got it, sorry if i posted to many times, my computer is acting up too. haha! but i guess i re-read your instructions and i guess i wasnt doing it right, well thanks so much! if i need anymore help ill be sure to come back to yall!

Yea i had the same problem. What you need to do is put the phone in recovery mode. to do this do the following:

1. Do a hard reset on the phone, hold the sleep/wake button + the home button until it turns off then release before it turns back on.

2. Plug the dock into the compute and have iTunes running.

3. HOLD the home button on the iPhone, while holding it, connect the iPhone onto the dock and CONTINUE to hold the home button until the CONNECT TO ITUNES DISPLAY APPEARS.

4. iTunes will recognize this and ask if you would like to restore it. Click restore. Then choose to restore from BACKUP! This will take a few minutes. It will fix the problem. Your iPhone will be up and running as normal and all your contacts, sms, bookmarks, settings, etc. will be intact. The only thing that will be erased is the music. But you can easily add that all back right.

Hope this helps :D

what if I didnt sync it with itunes b4 I did this and it was on itunes when I clicked " erase iphone "

I have tried number 3 and nothing works. My iPod touch was perfect I left it charging. Suddenly I go to see it and the logo appears nothing else, the logo is the Apple one and has a small but visible while line going thru it and beside it to other small lines. I tried to restore it (button thingy) but it doesn't work. Sometimes there are some blue flashing lines come on and sometimes these pink flashing dots. I left the power to drain, but now it wont charge , the logo appears when connected to power source etc. iTunes wont recognize it (Mac OSX 10.6) nothing. I can turn it off but when on same thing , no charge, logo , frozen. Whats wrong? Please help!!

lots of returning phones?

I am having the same issue (stuck with the apple logo and nothing else happens). I have noticed most of you have just went to the Apple store and returned your phone and they give you a new one. Do they charge you anything at all? Do they only give you a phone if you bought your phone within a certain amount of time?

Any news would be helpful. I've tried everything you guys are saying and nothing is working. Itunes doesn't recognize my phone, (because i guess its not turned on), I can't power it off, everytime I reset it just goes back to the apple logo and stays there.

Thanks

My 4th phone in 10 months

After 9 months my 3gs battery started dying fast. Genius replaced it in store no charge. Battery was great. Actually lasted a full day. One month later the replacement froze. Nothing would fix it. Replaced in store. The replacement had a bad battery. Got back to the store and they replaced it again. All under warranty. Quality is indeed an issue.

You are a star man, you saved the day.

Hi there,

I was almost desperate about that issue. I was looking for someone to take my iPhone to an Apple Store in US, when I found this post in YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2foiTBSn3k). Spacemonks' comment saved my day! :):D:):D

If you are experiencing the same I was, try this:

1) Hold buttons sleep + home untill iPhone turns off;
2) Open iTunes;
3) Hold home button and plug the phone to your computer. The phone will turn on and the iTunes + Arrow + cable screen will appear.;
4) iTunes will recover you phone from unsuccessful recovery process.

Thanks again to Spacemonks!! :):):)

similar problem

hey guys,

my 3gs w/blackra1n, is frozen on the apple logo.
about 3 days ago, i set it to erase all content and settings, but had to cancel the erase after it had started up.
since then the phone has been stuck on the apple icon screen and will not progress any further and holding the home and lock button resets it, however it only returns to the logo screen.
itunes will not pick up the phone.
if anyone can help me id be very appreciated, ive tried all the offered solutions in this thread and had no result, only the logo screen.
help me macrumors forum members, you're my only hope.

reset 8gb i phone

i clean and reset my 8gb i phone , now it have a frozen apple on the screen , i try the 25 sec method , that do not work

blackra1n

have you tried to use blackra1n again to see if you can pass by the apple logo?

Thanks for all the help guys!

Thanks. Saved me as well.

The only difference I had from the instructions is that when I held down the home button and plugged in, nothing seemed to happen to wake up the phone. So I pushed the power button while continuing to be plugged in and the home button held and it then started and went into recover mode.

I was given this phone by a very cute friend of mine. She has had it "broken" for over a month now and in hopes that I could save the day, she came over and asked me to fix it! Took me 5 minutes thanks to all of your help!

Iphone is weird.

I had the reappearing apple reboot symbol or whatever on my screen for about 10 minutes..I tried "reseting" by holding down the home and sleep button..whatever you wanna call it. I would just turn black for a second and go back to the mac symbol. I let it sit for a bit after trying to reset and it turned on told me to plug it into Itunes then went back to normal..a alert came up telling me that "Iphone has been activated". Soo..whats going on with my Iphone..?

Help please

I tried to do something nice for my daughter. I bought her a Jailbroken Iphone 3G off of Ebay, we have T-mobile. I got the phone, plugged it in to charge (had everything on the screen then) and then icons were gone and now I have nothing but a black screen and apple. I also tried to see if Itunes would work as discussed in the prior posts but it doesn't even read the phone.
I spent alot of money on this phone and now.. nothing. Apple won't help me, T-mobile cannot help me. So.. here I am.

problem solved with DFU mode

I had the same problem. Reset wouldn't fix it. However, DFU mode did. google DFU mode iPhone and you'll be back in business. If not, return the ipwn for a refund; it's hosed! ;-)
