That's inspiring/reassuring to hear. Do you still buy a case for your iPhone? I ask because I have gotten a LifeProof in the past and thinking of doing the same with the 8 Plus. I feel like if I pay this much for a phone, I might as well protect it.
I just use a really basic thin case for grip. Nothing for drop protection. But out of the 10 iPhones I’ve owned, I’ve only dropped one of them.

I will never buy an iPhone without it. I've gotten several free replacements (after 1 year of ownership) it has paid for itself many times over. They treat you like royalty (at least at my local Apple Store) when you have AppleCare+ too. lol.

Nothing like having my phone fail, walking into an Apple Store the same day, and walking out with a new phone within 10 minutes for $0. This has happened twice to my wife and I.

Apple Care+ is worth every penny, and more. I highly recommend it.

Same here. We have more Apple devices than any family needs and they all have AppleCare. My daughter dropped my iPad on concrete. My son drops his phone about once a month. Another time, my iPad decided to play in the snow. Just to name a few.

It's great to be able to walk into Apple Store and walk out with a new phone or iPad.

In a van down by the river
Didn't think about it that way. I guess I got trapped into the thought that I would have to upgrade. So is the Apple Installment Plan just the IUP but without AppleCare+?
Carrier financing is 0% interest as well, not to mention there is no hard credit pull (provided you already have service with them). You can also upgrade every year, provided you have made 12 payments. AppleCare is optional.

The catch with this plan is that I could not switch carriers until the phone is paid off? Is that correct?

I've never need to use AC+ for accidental damage, but for manufacturer defects, its more than handy. Having express replacement alone is worth it. You get overnighted a device instead of having to wait a week for an appointment at an Apple Store. I buy AC+ on all my devices, even on Macs now.

How is it different from the regular one year warranty? I get new phones every year for the whole family 6 to be exact so find it costly to add apple care. I know that in more recent years they try everything possible to replace parts. So are you saying that with AC you are definitely always getting a replacement regardless of issue

Have what may be a stupid question, do we need to bring in the box, EarPods, and power cables when trading the phone in for the new 8 (within the iPhone upgrade program)?

I’ve always had AppleCare and the only time I had parts replaced is for the screen. They’ve always replaced the device for me.

AppleCare+ allows for $26? screen replacements, and other super cheap fixes as well as a $99? phone replacement twice. It also extends AppleCare another year.

So if you get a new phone every year, the only advantage is cheaper screen replacements and 2 $99 replacements.

Nope, they just want the phone. :)

Let's say I buy a new iPhone 8 in store and sign up for the iPhone upgrade program. I also bring in for trade an old 6 plus and some apple gift cards, will they subtract all that from the balance and will I have a lower monthly payment?

I read online that this was able to be done, but when my wife and I sold our 6+ phones to start an iUP with 6s+... they said the only thing they could do was credit our credit card the amount that they paid for our 6+ phones ($300 each). So I got a $600 credit to my CC before using that very CC to start 2 new iUPs. They did ask if we wanted to make an initial large down payment to reduce the overall monthly payments when we started (we did not).

We didn't have any Apple gift cards so no clue on those. Maybe other members can comment that have?

Accident protection. $29 for screen replacement, $99 for full phone replacement vs $149/$329 respectively. Also, Express Replacement, free battery replacement and more.

The charges are at the discretion of the a Apple Genius. I've never been charged for screen or device replacement, even when my iPad when playing in the snow or when it took a dive onto concrete.

No. It’s the discretion of the manager. Your situation is pure luck and no one should ever expect that. People should never expect to be given a free replacement. If you break it. You should have to pay to fix it.

How many phones can a person get on the upgrade program
I think it’s limited to 5.

I originally got into the upgrade program with the 6s. I had gone in that day prepared to pay cash, because I wanted an unlocked phone. But when I saw the upgrade program, I couldn't figure out why I should pay cash, when I could get 0% financing with the upgrade program. So that's how I went. I like having AppleCare. I've had it on all the products I've bought from Apple. I got a new replacement phone at one point with the 6s. After one year payments, you basically have paid for half, when they take it back on your upgrade they cancel the other half. If you had paid cash for the phone I doubt you could get much more, at least without a lot of hassle. In the upgrade program they just take it back. You know what? I like a new phone every year. There's no way I'm going to keep a phone for say 3 years so that I can benefit from no payments. It's not that important to me. Anyway, this is my third time upgrading, I think it's a good program. BTW, if you're waiting for the X, and you're already in the upgrade program with a 7, Apple is getting over on you for a payment or two while you wait. That's like getting less for your phone.
