lol this is a comical post OP. The lightening connector needed to enter retirement.

That said. How would the C connector be any worse than C? Apple had a hand in designing C. So it has a very similar device connection structure. The port is capable of being strongly reinforced with steel to prevent bending on the port opening.

The “risk” of C is the plastic connector in the port breaking. Which I have never seen. But it won’t clog with lint like lightening.
I doubt the little plastic connector piece in the port can break. There's not even enough room inside the port to bend it enough to break it. You'd have to do something crazy to that port to snap that piece off.

Also, although I think lightning was a stronger port, I appreciate the extra power USB-C gives my large headphones. The USB-C to 3.5mm adapter packs a little more volume.

Typical EU. Just look at the electric car charger they are forcing us to use vs. the Tesla one the Us will be using going forward.

If you don’t live in the EU, don’t comment on it. It takes a few years of living in Europe to see how this organization literally governs every single aspect of our lives.

It is not fun. It is killing innovation.
There’s very little innovation left in the lightning plug. Nothing to kill here.

Yup, I always said the USB-C port is a disaster vs. the secure and reliable lightning connector. Now it's confirmed: USB-C sucks. The connection is fragile at best:

https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/16putnb

Mine is the same.

Thanks, EU. You forced an inferior port on all of us. Horrible.
I have been using my iPad with USB-C every single day as my main work device for the past few years, absolutely zero issues with it. The USB-C port on my iphone15 is totally fine so far as well. I would wait for more detailed info before drawing any conclusions. In particular, I wouldn't infer too much from a couple of reports of issues - there is a strong selection bias here, as people having problems always make the most noise in forums, even if they are a very small % of the overall userbase.

Mine is pretty loose, but it doesn't seem to affect the connection. It just doesn't grip the inside of the port very well. This could be by design to put less strain on the port, but who knows. Also, it probably depends on the cable itself too. Some cables could be a tad thicker than others or have better locking mechanisms inside.

I suspect apple used the same way of securing the port as previous lightening port, the problem is, lightening requires much less force then usb-c port to insert and remove. I suspect we will see alot of failed or damaged ports on iphone 15 pros before this is resolved.

One of the glaring weakness of the apple branded cables is that they have no tension relief (?), namely an additional piece of construction that helps transmit some of the force effected on the cable directly to the plug.

The direct consequence is that when removing the cable by tugging on the wire itself, all the force will go into the soldered connectors and therefore will wear the cable down at a faster rate.

This has been addressed by the hacker community but sadly is very much by design, the new breed of braided cables moreso.

Wow crazy lengths people go through for an issue that has literally never happened to me in my 15 years of owning iPhones/Lightning gadgets. All of my lightning cables are in perfect condition as well. When I store them, I use the rodie-wrap (over-under method) and I don't just bunch them up and toss them in a bag or anything. Also, when I'm using a device with the cable plugged in, I make sure there's plenty of slack and again it's not all bunched up and stressed.

Between my 15 Pro and my 4th gen iPad Pro, I'm not getting loose or mushy connections. I'll be honest, I kinda figured the connection with my iPad would have gotten loose over time, but nope.

I switch my Thunderbolt cable from Mac to Mac daily. Have for years. They’re both fine. PLUG the cable in rather than JAM the cable in and you’ll be fine.

It’s when you actually use the iPhones while plugged in with lightning cables you’ll start noticing connection issues after some time. Try lugging around a power bank for example. Almost everyone I know who has to plug in their iPhones often due to poor battery life have issues with lightning. Anyways, like everyone has pointed out, it’s all anecdotal. I’m just glad lightning is finally gone for good. The other devices you listed, like AirPods and ATV remotes, are rarely used while plugged in, so no issues there. Also they seem to have sturdier ports than iPhones. Lots of people have complained about lightning in various forums, so I hardly think it’s uncommon.
This is not true.

Unfortunately from my personal experience with Samsung Notes/Ultra as well as other devices with usb-c plug there're loose or not from the scratch. My xbox elite 2 halo pad despite being superior in all aspects has loose charging plug and the basic core one is tight. Just a production diversity and tolerance. USB-C wiggle is nothing compared to USB-A big plug wiggle (like radio transmitter for wireless computer headset in my case).
Good thing is despite being loose all these plugs work properly and not falling off and doing their job as intented.
My advice is not to worry, as long as they work properly is nothing false or defective

I'm fairly certain that with USB-C the mechanism/spring that is responsible for securing the cable is in the cable and not the port

This is by design to prevent exactly what is being alleged here.. TLDR You are using (or abusing) a mediocre cable

No problem with mine.

USB-C is used in thousands of different devices so yeah you can keep hating on the big bad EU all you want. It's here to stay and it's good that EU forced Apple to move to a modern port.
i am looking forward to the point where the EU will finally overstep the boundaries so we can revist this comment. There was literally no harm in lighting and i still miss it

I have sidestepped that problem by having a car where that's not an option :)
*co-designed along with multiple other companies AFAIK. It’s not the same thing— compromises are made.

Said this from day one. The EU needs to stay out of areas of which they know nothing about.

Apple could’ve opened up lightning and allowed other OEM’s to improve on it, then that would be the standard, not this inferior USB-C nonsense.

I purposefully bought a 14 a month before the 15 launched because I wanted the superior connector, not that garbage that gives me nightmares of my Android days, hahahaha
