odd... I must have a special iPhone. If it's locked, the volume button works just fine. Next, pause, etc., are about three inches from my face, pretty easy to find :)

Yeah, but it's not just being able to find them, but the amount of steps involved as well. With the iPod, I can find the buttons in my pocket quite easily. In the car it's especially worse because on the iPod I can press a button without having to unlock, slide, press next/previous. You're right, though, the iPhone does have a lot of this capability when you toss in the special earbud button as well. If it had a previous/repeat song from the earbud button, I'd be well on my way.

The on-the-go playlist creation doesn't work as coherently, though, and there are a few minor gripes regarding CoverFlow. I just generally find the iPod a better fit in most situations due to the physical buttons and my familiarity with its interface. I will admit that I do look a bit silly making circles on the outside of my pocket with my iPod to change volume or move forward in the track. ;)

I pretty much stopped using my big old 60gig Photo and Video when I got a Nano. The photo is now a permanent music server in one car and the Video is about to become that in another car. The Nano which used to go everywhere with my Blackberry is now relegated to occasional use in situations where I wouldn't want my phone also.

I find 8gig to be plenty for even NY to HK trips.

I still think the Shuffle is more convenient to use thanks to it's size, AutoFill feature, and proper headphone jack. I don't like the Apple headphones. I use my Shuffle for about 10-12 hrs a day so I like to switch the music on it daily. It's more convenient to get to the volume and song advance buttons than the iPhone. I'll use the iPhone more for video on long trips.

same thing here, volume buttons work while its locked, and the headset allows you to change/pause songs. Wow before I knew this is was a pain in the ass at the gym when I wanted to change songs.

I have a 30 GB white iPod with the clear protective screen still on it, and a generation 1 nano black 4 gb with the clear protective screen still on it. The 30 GB sits on my iHome for when I am in the shower, and the 4 GB sits in my car to use when nothing is on the radio... besides that I never use my iPods anymore.

I sold my iPod w/ video but I use a 4GB nano for the car which I keep in the glove compartment. My car is wired for it. I sync the nano every few days with music and audio podcasts for the work week. For everything else, and a mix of stuff that's mostly video, I use my iPhone.
