I have the jet black, and I have never had it in a case.

There are some micro scratches, but nothing bad at all, and nothing you can see without really looking. It is a fingerprint magnet, for sure, but a quick swipe down my shirt takes care of it.

It looks sleek as hell, and I am still happy that I waited for it (though my wait wasn’t long at all!).

That’s why I wish they had the jet black for the X.

And, the space gray and silver X colors are the same as on the 8. That’s why I’m heading to the Apple Store for a hands on before I decide on my X order.

Take a look at it in person. I’d never seen a jet black before. The 8 space grey looked a bit like a lighter version of jet black. The glass covering adds a sheen to it. Quite nice and very different from normal sg, or matte black and it actually stands out (in a good way) more than the jet black.

There’s some changes due to light but mine still looks white regardless and it really looks bright white in direct sunlight. Maybe Apple has some color variations out there based on tolerance in color variation when manufacturing. However, my silver 8 Plus is a milky white / pearl white / white-smoke-white / misty white (trying to paint the picture here) - you’ll see a hint of shimmer to it if you close pay attention in direct sunlight, not sure if that is due to the glass or the color itself though.

My back is not grey or silver or even close to it. I’ve held it against a white paper bag and it’s not stark white like that. I’ve held against a white plastic grocery bag and it’s similar in hue, but not quite the same. The color descriptions I gave above are the best way I can describe it. I personally love it, but if someone is looking for a true grey or silver back, signs aren’t pointing to that on the X.

This is silver color and it looks bright white. The camera sticking out looks strange in this color.

"Silver" has been my choice from the beginning. All the hands-on clips, and this clip, have one served to cement my choice.

Anyone got the jet black 7 how have they been over the year as I know Apple even noted they may scratch a little? How about dinner prints?

Just I'm wondering on which X colour and not sure if there X space grey, I know noone actually knows yet, but from hands on if it's fingerprint magnet, would be prone to scratches?

Is the X silver the same colour as the 8 silver?

I haven’t got a jet black 7 but I do have a space grey 8, and it came with a micro scratch right out of the box. To me, this suggests that the glass back is easily scratched, so I’ve put a rear screen protector on just to guard against micro scratches (I’ve got OCD, so scratches would really bother me). The screen protector takes away from the lovely feel of the glass back, but I’m willing to overlook that if it means my iPhone won’t get scratches 😛

I should imagine the X will be the same - after all, they’re both practically the same on the back, minus the spacing of the camera bump.

iPhone 8/8+

Space grey is more like a dark grey (similar to a charcoal grey)

Silver can appear white, but it has a very light grey tint to it. It’s “less” white the more an angle you look at it.

Gold can appear white (just like the silver), but has a very light pink tint to it. It’s “less” white the more an angle you look at it.

iPhone X should be very similar to the iPhone 8/8+ Space Grey and Silver. Minus the metal frame. Polished SS on the silver and more like Jet Black (but SS) on the space grey.

Why do they call it "Silver"?

It's "White".

😵

Go look at a silver 8/8+. It appears white but it has a very light grey tint to it. It looks more “white” if you’re looking at it dead on, but looks more grey the more an angle you look at it.

It’s not a pure white. Just appears white.

The gold 8/8+ is similar. It appears white but has a very light pink tint to it. Again appears more “white” when looking at it dead on, and more “pink” the more an angle you look at it.

But it is not "Silver".

So why call it Silver? It's very misleading and when you see it in person the first thing you say is "that's white".

Call it light pink, light grey, or anything you want, except "silver", because it is not silver.

Past silver iPhones have just been aluminum. Which is basically just a light grey.

The metal frame of the iPhone 8/8+ is aluminum just as it’s always been on previous aluminum iPhones.

The metal frame on the silver X is polished stainless steel (which is more a real silver colour than any other iPhone has ever been)

The colour name isn’t purely based off the back glass colour. It’s more about the metal frame. (IE gold option the metal frame is a blushed gold and the back glass takes on a tint of that)

The silver has always looked white in some photos/videos. I prefer it to be white anyway so I hope that’s actually the colour.

Does the black version have natural polished steel sides, or does it have a space grey darkened effect? I hate it when they colour steel, I want it natural.

The metal frame will be similar to a jet black 7/7+ except it’s stainless steel instead of aluminum. Also very similar to the space black Apple Watch

After seeing that video I want it more!

Went to see the iPhone 8 today, my favourite colour was the silver (looks more like platinum).

Base model should have been 128GB tho - Apple just can't help themselves screwing every last penny out of us.

The video re-confirms the silver/white for me. I love the white. I use my plus with a white silicone case now.

I prefer the silver color in general, as much as I like Space gray, I'm not one that likes to see scratches and I have a feeling the Space gray iPhone X will show scratches. Time will Tell when those threads arise.

Since the X arrives on Friday, I decided to live life on the edge and take my jet black 7 out of the case for the rest of the week, and finally enjoy the shiny finish. Wow, what a mistake. I don't know how your phone isn't scratched! Now that it's out of the case, the only material I'll set it directly on is cloth. At dinner I set it on a napkin. On my nightstand, I set it on a paperback book. I don't put anything in the same pocket with it. When I pulled it out of the case this weekend, it was pristine. Now, after 3 days, the back of the thing is covered with scratches that I can only assume it acquired from my jean pockets. Also, this morning I reclined in a chair and it slipped out of my pocket onto a tile floor. Nice long hairline crack down the side. I assume you've never dropped yours?

Damn, dude!

No, I haven’t dropped mine.

Wait, I take that back: I did drop it once, from hip height, onto carpet. No damage.

I keep it in my right front pocket or my bra, if I’m wearing pocketless clothes. I never have anything else in that pocket. I put it down on hard surfaces, like the kitchen or bathroom countertop or my wooden nightstand. It goes in and out of my car’s mount multiple times per day. I’m careful, but not anal about it. I use it one-handed while walking my dog, for instance. Plus, I use a cane, so my hands are more full than most people’s.

Like I said, there are micro scratches, but you have to look for them, it’s not something that jumps out at you.

The micro scratched on the back don't look bad by any means. I'm just surprised about the screen cracking from a 1 foot drop. With the X, there's also the back glass to worry about again…
[doublepost=1509423097][/doublepost]I would rather give up wireless charging and have the face of the X on the body of the jet black 7.

Two-tone colors rules this year for me with Moroccan blue V30, panda Pixel 2 XL, and silver iPhone X.

I want it to be WHITE. Zebra option or whatever you want to call it. White rears don't show fingerprints as badly as dark rears. If you ever seen the panda or black Pixel 2 XL, the upper glass rear attracts smudges easily. And that's a smaller area.

Silver banding might scratch but I don't care. I'm old school. Throwback to the og and white iPhone 3Gs. I want that bling bling when the sun reflects on it like the old days (2007-2009).

Space gray is cool but it reminds me of the matte black HTC One M7. Looks nice but same boring dark colors all-around. Dull metal band. Can't be recognized as an X from afar.
