What would the screen look like when you're trying to make it look like 11 (XI), 12 (XII) or even 13 (XIII)? Fabulous idea, but it won't scale past this current year. And forget about it with the iPhone 14 (XIV). That would be a disaster.

Maybe I’m just ocd but it’s a piece of at-a-glance info that was there before and now isn’t, that’s a regressive step to me.

Unless Apple reserves X for the body style, similar to OSX, and the phones are called X, X2, X3, etc.

Well, the notch holds hardware so unless Apple can place everything including the earpiece speaker under the screen we will either have a small notch or a small top bezel. Apple may just decide to keep the notch design element as it is, similar to how the home button didn't change shape or decrease in size, and the same notch will be with us until the next big redesign.
