I went from the X to max for a bigger screen. Before the X I’d come from the 6 plus, 6S plus, 7 plus and before that a few of the galaxy note phones. I like big phones so it’s a bit of a no brainier.
Compared to the 8 Plus, the XS Max is: .9mm shorter, .7mm narrower, .3mm thicker and 6 grams heavier. How does that translate to 'isn't as unwieldy as the Plus phones'? It's damn near identical.
Exactly. The 8 Plus was a massive phone compared to its screen size and while the XS Max fixes all that, it's still a big phone and due to the taller screen you will be reaching the top and bottom more. Reachability feature is a must if you are not using it with two hands.
It comes down to individual hand sizes and usage patterns (e.g. one handed or two handed most of the time) if the XS Max is too large or just right. After trying it in a store I'm glad I went with the smaller XS, it just feels better to use for me and the increased screen size provides little benefit IMO.
I am more accustomed to the Plus models, hence there was nothing else last year to upgrade to but the X. The Max was a bonus for me and i hope is back on track for good.
