I use the Navigon App and I downloaded about 4-5 states maps that I use the most. Works great.
I had a few Garmin standalone navigation car units but havent used them for years and dont really know where I stored them last.
Plugging them in and out each time and hiding them so people wont smash my windows to steal them when parked was not fun and they took a while to lock in satellite signal and had to keep them plugged in to the outlet to charge while driving.
I dont miss those days :D

Oh yes, I do worry about ppl stealing them lol. But my reception is instant tho

Well, as all vehicles sold in Canada in 2018 have to have a backup camera, it's pretty likely that all new vehicles here will have built in navigation and CarPlay/Android auto support. So, a quickly dwindling market for Garmin, TomTom and other standalone GPS makers.
They'll have to recoup it with their apps.

I bought the Garmin SmartDrive 60 LMT.
LMT = Life time map updates and traffic updates.

The traffic updates on Google Map is way better for avoiding congestion. But I figure it’s better I use this then to pay for over using my phone data every month lol.

I got it at Best Buy for CAD189. Maybe you can try it and if you don’t like it then return it. And it might be even cheaper on Boxing Day.
Thanks I will check it out.

As anyone noticed while wireless charging iPhone X and using gps . The phone getting hot . I’m worried about what damage it’s doing to battery

Yep. Seems to get a lot hotter (maybe it's just that the heat doesn't dissipate as well) if it's in a case than naked. I have a charger in my car, so using it for music all of the time and GPS as well often. Gets toasty sometimes.

Luckily, I run it naked most of the time, so it doesn't get as hot as it does in a case.

Yeah I use a case as well so extra toasty . Think I’m going to add a switch to the magnetic wireless charger in car . Have been using a 5v-1amp = 5woutput .and it not only gets hot but just holds charge nothing more . I’m upgrading to a 5v-1.5amp = 7.5 version . To see if it’s makes a difference . I have also read that wireless chargering maybe slowed down on the phone if charge is above 80% inorder to prevent overcharging .

Yep, the one I have in the car is 7.5w, but I've read that most wireless chargers don't "fast charge" the X/8/8+ as they aren't Apple certified (must be something different they're doing in their handshake). Not worried about it. Have a few wireless chargers, so as long as it holds its own in the car, I'm happy. And, yep, Apple throttles charging speeds based on battery level...so we'd likely only see 7.5w charging when it's much lower %.
