No, OP said he used it to take pictures underwater, same as his 7 Plus. iPhone's are not meant for that usage.

Unlikely. From near personal experience they don't cover water damage.
Doesn't appear that that's what was mentioned in the OP.

I'm not disputing that, its just that apple says splash resistant, not splash proof and they then also have the verbiage that water damage is not going to be covered.

Perhaps the OP can reach out to Apple and they'll still honor the warranty
They maybe would if he would look at the indicator and let us know if it’s white or pink.

Well said.
That's what everyone says. Oh I just splashed it a little.
In reality taking underwater pics is far from a splash :D
Either way Apple doesn't guarantee any water damage so if you fry it you're on your own if you take the risk to get it wet.

Well, in this case it seems like it wasn't used for underwater pics as mentioned in the OP.

That side, if nothing much is really said about water damage, then perhaps not mentioning any ratings would be the way to go.

Well, "1 meter for 30 minutes" should mean just that. It should actually meet those expectations.
It’s actually 1 meter for 30 minutes, susceptible to external damage that would decrease resistance.

likely from drops, bumps or using the lightning port before it dries.

Even if it's not the case... this is water damage and not covered by Apple. Like I said earlier, with Splash resistance, this becomes a game of luck when receiving a sealed device (just like the binning luck of CPUs when OC'ing)

That is correct, anyone can claim they did little water splashing or whatever on the internet though;)
And Apple has no way to prove or verify they did or did not what they claim is so that's why there could never by any warranty on water resistance.
I think water resistance ratings are ok to have to get an idea but those diminish within time and use so they will never be any more than guesses under certain closed lab conditions.

Seems like simply saying something a bit more generic like water resistant would be more appropriate over some sort of actual rating that has specifics assigned to it which don't always apply.

I think they're doing it to keep up with other competitors smartphones with such water resistance certification claims.
And the rest of the companies also dont cover any water damage either.
Many people dont understand or ignore what the rating really is and means and how it degrades over time, use and physical stress.
And then they find out the hard way when its too late.

I get what they are doing, just don't quite agree with it.

For what it's worth, I don't either. If the phone meets that very specific standard, if the manufacturer (whoever that may be - Apple, LG, Samsung, Garmin, you name it) advertises compliance as a feature, the manufacturer should be willing to warrant the item if it fails when used within the standard's limits.

Figuring that out is a different matter, but then don't tout compliance with the standard.

Did you solve your problem? Claim for Apple warranty?

I am so disappointed in this phone. My 7 plus was able to take underwater pictures and deal with water damage. 3 days in to our honeymoon, my phone got wet. After getting splashed with water, the phone was glitchy, so I restarted the phone. The phone was stuck in this loop where only the apple logo would appear. Apple recommended going into recovery mode and restoring it. I attempted to restore is at least 8 or 9 times, and receive the same error message 4013 each time. I thought the phone was water resistant? I feel like this phone was a scam, and the Samsung commercials mocking Apple are correct.

Just wanted to give my two cents on the matter... I already posted in another thread, but wanted to post here as well...

I got my iPhone X replaced by applecare because the back glass shattered from a fall less than 30 cm, got a new phone, a week later took a shower with it, not even close to the water, wasn't even a hot shower, phone died from a couple of drops of water, took it to the store, and the water damage indicator was red.

Im trying to get my phone replaced without Applecare... Such a mess

Remember way back when iPod touches that were used in a humid bathroom without ever touching water were having the indicator strips turn pink, and Apple lost a lawsuit and had to pay people back if they'd refused to fix the iPod? i was one of those people and just realized that I never got my money and forgot about it :-(
