Three clicks on the power button and you get a home button. I don’t miss the fingerprint reader. When I first got the iPhone X, I was accidentally taking screenshots.
Not looking to start another “I miss the home button” thread. I am looking for opinions from those who’ve lived with the iPhone X (and now the XS).
One of the things that has kept me from upgrading is that I am a frequent “bedside phone reacher/user”. In other words, I’ve become accustomed to checking my emails and messages in the wee hours by using Touch ID, glancing at my phone to see if I need to read anything, then rolling over and back to sleep. This is something I’ve had to do over the years as I have many clients on the east coast and I’m in the west.
Can anyone who is/was a similar user tell me if you were able to successfully adjust to the X? Did anyone, who has similar habits to mine, find it to be a deal breaker?
Very interested in comments regarding using the X in this fashion, often in the dark.
Any comments regarding adjusting after moving to the X welcome.
One more idea for you:
I got a pedestal type wireless charger for my nightstand. My phone sits on it. If I want to see notifications, I just touch the screen. If I want to unlock it, I usually just lift my head a bit. I don't usually even have to manipulate the phone other than "waking" it by touching the screen.
Couldn't care less about fingerprint sensor. It had it's time and now it's time for a better technology.
Not only does it work in the dark, it usually still works even when I’m laying on my side with half of my face buried into the pillow.Just the feedback I’m looking for. Glad to hear it works in total darkness. I know I’d have to learn and adjust, I’m just hoping that that adjustment will be enough to, eventually, get over the fingerprint reader loss.
I’ve also considered turning it off completely on occasion.
this has been my experience as well, and when it fails in the middle of the night it really becomes irritating.
Better is subjective and is more of a personal
Preference. Is Face ID more secure? Yes. Is face ID operable where touch ID failed, yes. But touch ID also worked in situations for Face ID did not. So the term ‘better’ is it completely variable term, although I do believe that face ID is Apple’s choice of biometric security because of the security protocols that follows and it’s enhancements, just because it’s ‘better’.
Me as well. I usually check early in the morning and probably 70-80% of the time it does not recognize me. This is a well-known issue with FaceID. It does not work well in bed for a lot of people. Having said that, I would try to adjust your habits OP. What you are doing is not healthy. I would look for ways to adjust your schedule or something so that you are not waking up through the night.
