Two things im looking forward to a lot:
1) To not have to deal with the bad performance of the iPhone 6 I'm currently using.
2) A different form factor of iPhone than one of the two that I've been using since 2012.

I am a little nervous about a couple things too:
1) Physical larger size of the Xr, I'm worried I may drop it while using it with one hand
2) It will be the most expensive iPhone I've ever purchased.
Keep in mind the larger phones really aren't designed for one handed use. So you will probably be somewhat disappoint with trying to do so.

I don't have a problem using a phone with 2 hands, it's just that for those times where I quickly want to check something on the phone while I have a bag, keys, small child, etc... in my other hand, that I'd worry more about dropping it.

For me it's jump in size-SE to XR.
I've already gotten a case for it,
and it fits in some of the pockets.
I'm thinking cargo pants next.

And the color. Every year I'd go into the apple store, look at the phones, & ask an employee, do these come in blue?" And now they do!
And I have to name it so far, on the list is, Hagrid, Goliath, Grover,
Maxx, Chubby, & Hefty.

I love the full screen design....I currently have a 7 so it will be a nice upgrade.

Also, better camera, better battery life, and better performing.

Smaller overall size than my pluses (I’ve been using plus phones since the 6) without going too small.

Faster processor (though likely not a huge difference from 8+)

More seamless look because of the small/uniform bezels

Hopefully somewhat better cellular connectivity

The only thing I’m nervous about at all is whether the camera is actually gonna be as good as the 8+, but I’m expecting it to be better in some ways, even if not quite as good in others. IDK - this is the only thing I’ve really wondered about.
The only thing you're missing is the 2x telephoto lens, which admittedly is a bummer if you use it now. You still get portrait mode, though until it gets thoroughly tested we won't know how it compares (optical vs software depth mapping). The wide angle lens has larger pixels and smart HDR, so that is better than the 8+.

The screen size, wireless charging, and battery life. I’m coming from a 7, with an 80% capacity battery. Bought a supcase hybrid case for it and an Anker wireless charging dock. Very excited.
