Until you use a different OS...I’m sorry iPhones are very much worth higher than that for IOS, software updates and support alone no matter what the device does

It depends on how a person values iOS. I personally don’t think that is the case. I believe no reasonable person should spend more than 600 dollars on a phone that going to be outdate in perhaps two to three years. To me, smart phone is a commodity and disposable after few years. Spending 1K on such thing is insane to me.

I am speaking of this, because i have mortgage to pay, i have two car lease to pay, i have insurance to pay, i have bills to pay and i have to put money aside for my children’s education.

I would never buy a devices over 600, this is exactly why i am always buying devices that is two generations old. I picked up a refurbished iPhone 8 Plus last year under 600 and my Huawei P30 was brought in China with my Chinese money.

 stuff has always been too expensive. Always. Even the first MacMini at $499 was too expensive for what you got.
I'm in the same boat of thinking no iPhone is worth more than $600 new. And even at that price, that's pretty expensive. The $1000+ iPhones are Joker Sam prices. Total ripoff. So I'll likely do the same as OP and keep my current iPhone until it no longer works then buy a 2nd hand 2 year old model and keep it until it breaks. Etc.

Those who believe they must stay on the cutting edge of technology are looking at the game (Apple's game) in a very short sighted way. 20+ years from now, will it have made one tiny little bit of difference that you were always 2-4 years behind the latest tech curve?

Oh lord, here we go again. Thanks for your opinion. No, the price doesn't matter to most people. Yes, we will likely continue to pay what we do for Apple products. No, we don't care that you think they are overpriced. No, the notch doesn't bother normal people. Did I cover everything? Oh, and thanks for announcing your intentions so that you can feel validated. There, that's all. Have a good day. :D

Yeah, your Pixel 3a will NOT age well...substandard processor + 4GB RAM...just won't do well past 6 months (or less apparently for the Pixel 3 with stronger processor than yours).

So, damn with the camera bump, iPhone is a much better buy.

I clearly never own a pixel 3 or pixel 3A. But after a year with my Huawei P20, i can honestly say, it hasn’t slow down a bit. I don’t know what gonna be after 2 year or 3 years, so far P20 is still pretty good.

Thanks for letting everyone know you are annoyed by the poster and and announcing your intentions so that you can feel validated. Now we know you love iPhone. Good to know

The fact that a huge number of people pay far more than $600 proves that they are indeed worth more than $600. Something's value is what people are willing to pay for it. Your logic us unsound.

Have a nice day.

Absolutely no problem at all. This is a forum, right? Where people go to post things that they expect others will comment on (whether they share their opinion or not), right? These types of posts are always guaranteed to get people commenting, and disputing comments are to be expected.

I could see the pricing on a folding iPhone adding at least a $1,000 to your $600 limit. So...
I would pay more for a folding iPhone. In its current state I would not pay more than $600.

I don't agree. I paid roughly $600 for an iPhone for many years. I see no reason now why that should change.

That 8+ you’re about to buy cost $869 when it released two years ago. Would you have made the same argument and said “I’m not paying that much for an 8+, I’m getting the 6s plus because the 8+ is no better”?

If the answer is “yes”, then why don’t you just get the 6s plus today?

All you’re saying here is that you’re unwilling to pay more than $600 for a smartphone. I highly doubt you really believe that an 8+ and a XS Max should cost the same.
I wouldn't get the 6S Plus today because it doesn't have wireless charging and dual speakers. Two features I choose not to live without moving forward.

In one month I can probably get an 8 Plus for $550. So obviously I will wait for that.

I never said the 8 Plus and XS Max should cost the same. But having used the XS Max for almost a year now, I absolutely don't think it's worth the money I have paid for it.

They are worth what people are willing to pay and $600 is not going to get you much at Apple.
Most likely I can get an 8 Plus for $550 in a month, so I'll respectfully disagree with that.

Because iPhone has advanced a lot since then. You got the iPhone with 4GB RAM, you got iPhone starting 64GB of storage, you got OLED, you get FaceID.

Yes, of course iPhone price has gone up dramatically, Apple isn’t give you all these thing for free.

iPhones depreciate so quick now in relation to how little they used to , when subsidies were in full force

The smart thing to do is lag behind a bit and get a great deal.

Smart doesn’t always prevail w my consumer decisions tho

Loving my jailbroken XR for $500 after trading my 7+ but it was still a lot I admit and I don’t like this new pricing structure in general

Why selling the Xs max to buy a 8+ in the first place? You already have the phone. You're on a contract but after 2 years the phone is paid off and yours. Why buy new old tech when you have old new tech? You shouldn't be trusted with money decisions.

Apple can charge whatever they want and offer whatever they want. That doesn't dismiss the fact that I don't think an iPhone is worth more than $600. It is simply just my opinion but I know many others agree.

I choose not to pay the ridiculous price of $200 for AC+ upon the Max purchase. An 8 Plus purchase means I'll have a free one year warranty plus I can get AC+ and pay $150 (or maybe less) post-keynote.

You clearly don't know what research and development costs yet you KNOW what the product is worth.

I know what a product is worth to me. I know what I'm comfortable paying for an item. I can elect to not spend more than $600 for something and that's my choice. I have no idea why you don't understand that.

This would only make sense if your phone is already broken. You make no sense dude.

I think possibly there is an answer for that, but you may not like hearing it.

All four US carriers used to subsidize the phones they sold. They paid full price, they locked you into a 2 year contract where the cost of the plan was slightly elevated and told you that all you had to pay was (roughly) $600.

The carrier recouped the difference between the total price they paid and the slightly elevated cost of your plan.

If you continued to use that phone after two years they made money off the phone because that slight elevation of price was never reduced.

So, the total price was hidden from you by the carrier.

Now, with leasing, the carriers aren't doing this anymore, the price of plans (maybe not your plan) is reduced and the total price of the phone is evident.

In short, you weren't paying just $600 during those years.

If op wants to reduce risk too with lower repair costs for unit replacement or screen it makes some sense ...

And just if he prefers the older style iPhone pre-X form

Your actions are illogical. You bought the most expensive phone and want to sell it to by a cheap phone with the money you get from the sale. Its called a stupid idea. Sorry.

I'm just here to mention my final payment on my 8 Plus is coming up and year 3 of use will be payment free!

Any reason to pick up a new phone and a new $1000+ device payment? None that I can think of! Touch ID still works... phone pics still look good on FB... apps still run fine... phone is still plenty fast... I think I'm golden!

Cheers to those who upgrade!

I never said the 8 Plus and XS Max should cost the same.

But that’s what you’re implying.

If you won’t pay more than $600 for a phone and you’re willing to pay up to $600 for the 8+...then you’d also be willingly pay up to $600 for the XS Max correct?

But having used the XS Max for almost a year now, I absolutely don't think it's worth the money I have paid for it.

That’s a perfectly valid and reasonable thing to say. But that’s not what you seemed to be saying in your OP.

The phone will most certainly not stop functioning after two years. Physical damage can be avoided or reduced with a bumper.
