Good day to all!

The iPhone's competition is increasing, most notably with Samsung's SIII. In two days, Samsung will introduce their new challenger: the Galaxy SIV.

Are you excited? Do you think this new phone will match out the iPhone 5? What are your predictions?

Have a safe day!

Excited about the event? Of course.

Excited about the leaks, so far? Not really.

Unfortunately, because I can't get a satisfying enough experience with the Nexus 4, the Sony Xperia Z and HTC One are, so far, getting only decent reviews, the fact that I have no faith in Apple to drastically change their ways (prove me wrong, Apple!), and my little-to-no interest in WP8 or BB10, the S4 is likely going to be the front runner for my upgrade this year.

The wildcard would be the Motorola Phone X...

I think Apples biggest competition is with itself. It has kept IOS almost the same as when the iPhone 1 was released. Yes this gives consistency to owners but the competition has moved on.

Consequently a lot of people have moved as well even though they had to put up with the horrendous build quality of other phones as a result.

The S4 isnt going to attract many iPhone devotees judging by current leaks.

It will likely attract those android fans after specs above design. Thus if I was apple the S4 wouldn't concern me. I would be more concerned with how I develop IOS into a more advanced OS whilst keeping it simple enough for the fan base that want a simple OS e.g. my girlfriend.

Yeah, that's a reliable business approach: don't worry about the competition. Wise.

Your opinions of the competition is your opinions, no issues there, mate, but your business philosophy is questionable.

Heck, Apple themselves keep a very close eye on the competition. They don't like to admit it, but their Samsung vs Apple trials revealed they do. They even : gasp : pay very close attention to consumer and media feedback.

Where did I say not to be concerned with the competition. I said at the present time the Samsung S4 nor S3 are not to be overly concerned with. The reason being is because the S3 still hasn't outsold the iphone 5 despite being half the price. It's like Ferrari still outselling Ford, when the norm should be the reverse.

If Apple do not consider changing their stagnant development of their OS, this is likely to be a bigger threat to them in the long term.

Or to put it in simple words for you, not many people who like iPhones will be enticed by the S4.

But the Galaxy S3 isnt half the price of the iphone 5 - Certainly not in the UK anyway. Where abouts have you seen it half price? Granted its a bit cheaper then the iphone 5, but then it has been out almost a year and the S4 is just about to be released.

I think Apple has a lot to worry about in regards to the S3 and most defiantly the S4.

I love the car analogies! The iphone is nothing like a Ferrari! This post from another thread sums it up nicely!

Wouldn't it actually be more like the Toyota or Honda of desktops, laptops, phones, etc? Ferrari is quite exclusive and very limited in production and uses technology that isn't widely available. Ferrari's are at the cutting edge of performance, very high performance equaled or surpassed by only a handful of automobiles. Ferrari's are also not super reliable and require frequent and expensive maintenance.

Apple products are widely available sell in huge numbers, are available everywhere, even WalMart. Even kids have iPhones. Everywhere you go you see people with an iPhone, etc. Hardly an exclusive product like Ferrari. I bet you'll see thousands of Toyotas and Hondas on the road for every Ferrari you see.

The 5 outsold the s3 in 3 months what the s3 did most of the year. You hardcore tech heads may be jumping ship but the majority aren't.

The S3 has been available free on a £26m contract almost straight after release. It can now be had free on a £21pm contract with free Samsung 7 inch Tablet .

Even the newly released Sony Z/HTC One can be had for £30 upfront fee or free on a £26m contract. (I got my Sony Z free on a 12 month £36pm contract with the free headphones and £80 cashback although this was a special deal).

On the iPhone 5, even today, you cant get similar prices (best I could managed was a free 64gb phone but on a £42pm 24m contract around release day).

Android has always been the significantly cheaper option.

You seem to forget the that Galaxy S3 has been out nearly a year, so the price is bound to drop.

Why dont you read first.

We are talking about single model vs single model and flagship at that.

Of course Samsung on the whole outsold Apple. This is because there are about 100 different samsung phones out there being sold simultaneously.

Not really, I am sure the Android people are though. I have no interest in it all, to be honest.

I wish I video taped this old couple that came into my work the other day.as they were talking to me I heard my ring tone that's on my gs3 and looked for it while the husband took out his gs3 and was trying to answer it.he missed the call but I was so surprised he had a gs3.

So to answer your post.

Apple sold approximately 33.4 million iPhone 5s last year (released September 21, 2012 - rolled out to 100+ countries by December 2012).

Samsung sold approximately 40 million Galaxy S3's last year (released May 29, 2012 - rolled out to 145 countries by July 2012).

Q4 2012 saw Apple sell more 5's and 4S's each than Samsung sold GS3's.

Ya I did read it says the iPhone 5 out sold all the gs3s sold in 3 months so why don't you go read what he wrote.

Gs3 came out q2 and its biggest quarters were q3 and started lowering q4 because that's the nature of any flagship product.people started buying note 2s and moved on to better species phones.

You guys post apples biggest 1/4 but watch how much lower q1 and q2 will be now that the gs4 is coming.

That's funny you just saved me linking sources.

So how exactly did apple sell more in just 3 months when to this day has not sold more iPhone 5s?

33m vs 40 million and I'm not talking about q4 as its common sence that a phone will start to drop off near its end cycle and if you want to bring in 4s sales why not post the 25 million note 2 and gs3 mini sales.

At this point, i just want companies to stop looking at iPhone as their "role model to follow" and start working hard to do their own thing and provide better options which may even differ from the norm. I refuse to accept that the entire innovative mindset of this planet is housed in Apple HQ only.

The same way i refuse to accept that everything needs to match the iPhone in any case. True competition does not mean trying to match the others.

I didn't want to bring in anything....you were the one who talked about note 2 and GS3 mini sales....

I'm talking iPhone 5 versus GS3. It took the GS3 100 days to sell 20 million
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-sells-20-million-galaxy-s3-phones-first-100-days

On the other hand, the iPhone 5 was only on sale for roughly 100 days in 2012 (September 21 - December 31)....and it sold 33.4 million.

That's equal numbers right after each phone was released. If you want to say obviously the iPhone 5 would outsell in Q4 2012 (though so did the 1+ year old 4S by itself), I would counter with, the GS3 was out for 5 more months in 2012 than the iPhone 5....obviously it would outsell in 2012.

Samsung is having SOME success - more than any other Android handset maker for sure. But let's not get carried away thinking they are on Apple's level sales wise just yet.....Apple has to-date sold more iPhone 4S's than Samsung has sold of its entire Galaxy S line....(110 million vs. 100 million).

Samsung is getting there.....but there still isn't a sales monster like Apple and the iPhone....

Oh and adding in the Note 2 and GS3 mini is simply absurd....You want to compare equal phone sales, you compare lines of phones - i.e. iPhone 4, 4S and 5 vs. GS1, GS2 and GS3. Obviously Samsung sells 1,000 different types of phones so it will sell more by default......comparing each OEM's "flagship" line of smartphones is the only fair way to do it.....hell, you can even throw in all Note 1 and 2 sales and the GS3 mini sales and Apple still outsells with its iPhone line.....

No you're the one that signed up just to post your bs opinion on android in a competitors section of the forum.

You want an apple ?

That would be nice, Red Delicious please!! Isnt it all opinion? No can say for certain what would be best for one individual or another? You think because you made up some story about some guy pulling out a phone makes your opinion legit? I didnt think you were that foolish, but I could be mistaken. :apple:

You are the one who brought up the android people comment with your biased post.

And I don't think my mom even knows what android is and uses a gs3.she bought the phone because she liked it.that is why Samsung is dumping billions on marketing and not one single commercial talks about android.

Right there. The S4 will directly compete with the iPhone 5 and 5S (and most likely be its strongest competition)

Where is the head hitting a brick wall smiley?

Please read and DIGEST what you have read.....

Seriously.....

I am tempted to explain things again to you in a more simple way but risk getting banned due to the words I would use....
