I found this interesting.. it's quite possible that Apple's new fold will have similar regressions in water and dust resistance. This screenshot is the warning page of Samsung's new fold..

That's not a surprise. You can't overcome the laws of physics. In order for it to fold open, it has to have a hinge. Hinges can't be 100% air tight otherwise they wouldn't be able to move.

ie, don't take this thing to the beach!

handled a Samsung fold again while in Best Buy

It dawned on me! My perfect next phone would be the left side ONLY. Super thin.. small.. yah, half the fold would be perfect 🙂

Well see what Apple has up its sleeve with their folding hinge, that will determine if its water proof or resistant.

The Honor Magic V6 offers IP69 protection.

The folding iPhone will either offer this as well or will most likely offer the same in due time.

In time, perhaps -- but their current phones all only offer IP68, so I think it's more plausible that they'll just match that in the first go around.

Soooo.... you mean the iPhone Air?

Only half joking, because that's quite literally what the Air is; I've been asserting since they released it that the entire purpose of the Air was to produce something super thin at scale, in preparation for the upcoming foldable... but I guess the Air by itself really does appeal to some people.

A much smaller iPhone Air then.. I miss the old sizes, such as iPhone 12..

I think the half-iPhone Fold idea is great, and I know it isn't going to happen - but still, it would be pretty nice (with silicon battery, due to its small size)

I hear you; you aren't the only person who has expressed a bit of nostalgia for smaller handsets of years gone by. I've also considered if I should drop down a notch in screen size from my current 16PM, when I eventually upgrade.

I'm afraid we are, however, in the minority; most people seem to prefer the extra large screens.
