I have a Ipod classic that I use for listening to downloaded podcasts as I go to sleep at night. In the past it would play one and stop, now it plays one after another, so its on all night, which drains the battery. I searched the apple forums and found the issue was having the shuffle on. I turned it off but the issue persists . Is there another setting Im missing on the Ipod or in Itunes?
Thanks

For a given podcast, if your iPod is playing each unplayed episode until no unplayed episodes remain in that podcast, that's normal. Although I agree that a setting to change that behavior would be nice, as far as I know there isn't one.

If that's not what you're seeing then please give a more detailed description. Also, the iPod and iTunes both have a shuffle setting - make sure both are off.

You may be able to set up a playlist with only one podcast at a time (like the playlist only contains 1 episode of x podcast, based on oldest or something like that). I'm guessing that if you then played that playlist when you went to sleep, that would shut off after the playlist was done, but I don't know it for sure.

iPods also contain a Sleep Timer if you go into Clock, then Sleep Timer, you can set it to automatically turn off the iPod after a certain amount of time. Perhaps this will suit your needs.
