my ipods and I are so happy

Looks like they just pushed an update to the 10.10.2 beta. Perhaps that will contain a fix for us classic users? Someone install it and report back please :)

I may just keep Mavericks anyway though. Aperture sure is a lot more stable on it. Kept freezing like crazy under Yosemite, even after their patch. Same with iMovie and FCPX.

Anyway, hope this fixes it. If not, they've still got more betas

:cool:All is well with my ipods and me. I installed the beta update and my ipods are happily syncing (with the exception of my dearly departed 6th generation Nano, which went through the washer a few days ago.)

Thanks for keeping us updated, Brett.

I've just had this problem myself and had an hour of sheer panic, as I thought I'd lost my iPod Classic for good (it's the best thing I own!). Just purchased a MacBook Pro about a month ago and I've only just got around to plugging my iPod into it. I plugged in my Classic, erased everything that was already on the iPod and then tried to sync it, but to no avail.

After reading this forum, I did the software update as advised and nothing changed, it still wouldn't sync. Luckily, the solution was simple. On the iPod summary screen, select music from the menu bar on the left and make sure that the 'sync music' box is ticked. Now select the sync button.

iTunes should now automatically sync your music and videos. Panic over! :)

More iPod classic problems

Recently, my 120GB classic has been failing to sync. It would sync some songs, and ignore others. It also ignored unchecked songs in my iTunes and left them on the iPod.

Based on a comment in the forum, I clicked the option to sync all songs. It came back with a message that it was synced to another iTunes, which it never has been, ever. I went ahead. It said I had 20GB too much stuff, which is true… IF the thing insists on loading in every single track, regardless of whether or not is is checked. It offered to select music to sync, and this was the only way it would proceed, so I said okay.

It downloaded 21,000 tracks, many of which were unchecked.

And it put them all into one big directory, ignoring the file system I laboriously made (and laboriously remade last time I had to rebuild my entire iTunes).

This state of affairs is pretty awful.

(Edited to add: I'm syncing once again, with "sync only checked items" selected. I'm hoping for better results. Playlists would be nice.)

Playlists at last! It took a few hours, but I'm back in operation. This time "sync entire library" was unchecked, so I checked it, and they came back, along with three tracks it hadn't synced the previous time.
