What does this mean exactly?

Can someone who understands developer jargon explain?

Sorry. It was listed in the picture depicting some of the new developer APIs in iPhone OS 4.0.

The image is everywhere and should be easy to find. I'm on my iPhone and linking would be a little difficult. I saw it on gizmodo.com

like nate, I wanna know what it means. does that mean the iPod feature will be removed from the iPhone once 4.0 comes out?

I'm going to hazard a guess, but given some of the other stuff they're talking about, perhaps it has to do with APIs that allow for more app control of iPod / iTunes content?

I was thinking that too, but it wasn't on the SDK screen but on the user Features screen.

Actually, what got me curious was the Wake on Wireless. What do you think that means? Better battery saving? It'll switch off your wireless completely until you're home and then wake the wireless up?

I doubt it's like my iMac where it will wake the computer from sleep when it gets pinged.
 
my udid was added for 3.0 software - does that mean it will work for the 4.0 software? Or can a developer choose to remove the udid...
 
I was thinking it was maybe the "audio only" version of Video out, that is to say, instead of playing a video, you see album artwork, lyrics etc.

Also what does "Wake on Wireless" mean? It was in another slide

It was the same slide. And I like your idea with the Album Art and stuff. Maybe that's it. :)

There's already Audio out through the Dock, 30 pin connector and headphone jack...

Here's another one to throw at you. In the iBooks app it will wireless sync your bookmarks and the last page you were on across your devices. So wake-on-wireless will be needed for this feature. This leads me to think this means we may get wireless transmission of music to other players.

As for Wake On Wireless being needed for iBooks... Not needed at all. You only need to sync when the app is opened. So that's when it will do it. When you close the app it updates the spot to Apple and then when you open the app it gets it again. I'm pretty sure this is how Kindle works with whisper sync.

it's just that the #1 thing I like to do on my iPhone is listening to the iPod. I got almost 3000 songs on it and I don't wanna lose all the music data

I would agree if it wasn't already available. For instance with some car stereos; I can already see the album art on the radio display, the actual art. I've been able to since the original iPhone. Maybe it's a more refined way to do it, maybe it's something else.

But your car uses the dock connector, right? I don't think it works using the analog video adapter.

That's what I was thinking...that they'd add that feature to the analog output.

I don't have a dock and I've plugged my iPhone into my TV using the audio jack on the top of the phone.

I can watch movies that way. I'm nearly positive that when I play music that way I hear it but don't see anything on the TV screen.

That's what I'm talking about.
