I don't have a dock and I've plugged my iPhone into my TV using the audio jack on the top of the phone.

I can watch movies that way. I'm nearly positive that when I play music that way I hear it but don't see anything on the TV screen.

That's what I'm talking about.

That's something I didn't know about. You can watch movies on your tv via your headphone jack, really?

I don't get what this means.

Why would you want to output say video to a external display for example. Because it would look either small or crappy.

I think it could be a kind of interfase to browse the iPod's content and play stuff while the iPhone is hooked to a TV. Right now, only videos show on the TV when connected with either component or composite cables, but with iPod out, it probably displays some kind of menus, probably optimized to be controlled with the apple remote. And when playing a song, probably iPod app will display a now playing screen on the TV. Just a thought, but that's what I would think off.

Two possible ideas:

1) Song sharing, maybe you can share your music. After all Simplify Media is closing down, maybe Apple bought them.

2) Might mean anything displayed on the screen is outputted. That would be great for games, iBook, etc.

Isn't this already possible.

I'm pretty sure this is how Kindle works with whisper sync.

Whisper sync syncs whether or not you're using the device. It pulls data down so you have it when you want it. Wake on wireless means that the device can be in a low-power mode, but still passively broadcast that it is available to wake up on a request to send/pull data. The only thing I can think is that maybe it'll end up being a lower-power way to do Notifications.
