I apologize if this is off topic. I currently own a 80gb classic, and am planning to get the 4th gen touch 32gb. I also own a pair of in-ear headphones with remote (apple). Is the next shuffle worth a wait, should I buy one now, or not at all?

It's okay, I don't mind. I would wait until about September 8th, when the Apple event is supposedly going to happen, and see what Apple has in store for the shuffle. They might give it a price drop, which is needed since 2GB MP3 players on the market go for $30 and less and have more features. We might also see refreshed colors, and I am hoping for a remote adapter included so we can use any headphones. As for the in-ear headphones w/ remote I think you can use them with the shuffle.

Hopefully they will bring back the a new redesigned "clip"-like one..

I washed mine, and doesn't work anymore. And I've been wanting a new "clip"-like one.

I don't there's a whole lot they could do. And I hope they don't. The only thing I dislike about my shuffle is the stainless steel clip, because it gets fingerprints and scratches all over it

Yeah, I don't think they could do much about it either, it's already small enough, and I don't think Apple would make it bigger. But who knows.

1st Gen was cool.

2nd Gen was a nice improvement, but we lost the flash drive capability.

3rd Gen was a step backwards IMHO.

For the 4th Gen, maybe we'll see a new design with buttons and a small display.

Haha, nice name. I really hope Apple does something about the shuffle. I too liked the 1st gen, I had one for a little while.

Shuffle notes...

I have the 2 GB (newest model) in charcoal and I use it at the gym ALL THE TIME... I never fill up the thing.. love it. More than happy with what I have and have no interest in keeping up with the Jones'. Only waiting for the Verizon iPhone which all points to January from a variety of sources. For now, I'm happy with my 3G. ;)

In 2005 this device was innovative and cool... in 2010 this product is an overpriced piece of crap.

Apple needs to offer the same sizes at far reduced price. Stop the "special edition" BS and let the Nano slink down to the $99 price point.

Shuffle and Nanos should be seen as entry point "crap tech". Make the shuffle so cheap by keeping the memory and function the same to get people hooked on the Apple software, so $25-$49 should be the way this year. Get nanos at $79 and $99 and keep them about the same as last year. Then get stripped down iPT in the $150-up range. Money is made from songs, but better money is from apps, so the app machines now need to filter down to younger audiences.

If Apple continues the tiering they have now, they are crippling a wedge of their business structure.

I bought both the 1st and 2nd gen Shuffle but skipped the 3rd gen because of the controls on the headphone. It's too fragile and Apple's headphones (especially the ones that compatible with Shuffle 3rd gen) are not cheap.

If they change the design and solve this problem I would get it to accompany my bigger iPhone to use at the gym.

Apple have 'admitted their failure' before for changing the fat 3rd gen Nano back to the tall Nano. (Even though I much much prefer the fatter-but-smaller Nano than the current one) So I think Apple would be willing to change the design to something similar to the highly popular 2nd gen one.

You cannot really do much more out of a button-less piece of metal. All I want is gapless playback. If Apple add that as a firmware update, then I might be interested. A price drop would be nice too, $49 for the 2GB, $69 for the 4GB.

Truth to be told, I don't really have much use of any iPods once I have the iPhone. Why carry another device?

I don't really think they could do anything different with it either, I do see them going 8GB on them if the both the nano and touch go 16GB on the base models which is a slight chance, but the shuffle cant have 8GB if the nano has 8GB and if the touch still has 8GB of storage. What I really want them to do is include a 3.5MM headphone adapter so you aren't forced to use Apples dreaded headphones.
