I don't know about you, but I want the iPod Touch to get more features!

3D Touch, Live Photos, Touch ID... Bring it up to date with the iPhone!
Who's with me?

(iPod touch Deluxe?)

Touch ID would be nice, and I'll throw in GPS as well. I use my iPod Touch extensively while traveling overseas, and would love to be able to use City Maps without an external BlueTooth GPS.

So maybe I'm not going crazy then. I have a pretty much brand new 6th Generation. The most "Usage" I got out of it was about 24 hours with about a week of standby. All I did was listen to music on it with the screen off, no wifi, no apps running, just music. Has anyone ever gotten anywhere near the "up to 40 hour" music playback figure. I should be averaging 30 hours per charge, but nowhere near that.

I eventually bought a used iPhone with no phone provider for that reason. (Apple Watch support was the "feature" I wanted.)

Comparing the prices, it really looks like the iPod touch's relative featurelessness is a deliberate decision.

It needs no new features; my battery life has been fine; for anyone who cares about GPS - buy a cheap phone.

For good battery life :-

Brightness down to less than 15%
Switch off unused radios e.g. BT
Switch off background app refresh
Do not load FACEBOOK
Do not stream music - load and play from local memory.

For really good battery life :-

WiFi off until you need it

BTW the battery life below 20% is more than 1/5 of the total charge. Something screwy with the percentages.

I did all of the above apart from turning off wifi and the battery life on the 6G was so atrocious I had to return it. I had the 5G before it and the 6G has significantly worse battery life.

Same here-- the battery drain is horrendous. It happens when on wifi -- you can just watch the battery % drop... And, this is with background refresh off, too!

I keep the screen brightness down to 30%, refresh activity to a minimum, etc. on my new 6G and still get only about 2 hours use before the battery is down to 20%. This is actually worse than my old 5G that I replaced because the battery was getting weak - go figure. Nothing demanding - using it as a remote for my stereo, checking email, etc. Other than the battery life, it is a beautiful device. But can't recommend it because of the battery situation.

I'd like to have a screen that's 4.7" or 5.5" like the Iph6+ (Iph 6 or beyond) line (The + stands for "and beyond")

That's been the only reasons I've updated my IpT-es in the past... better screens... IpT3 to IpT4, and the IpT4 to an IpT5

Given what Apple has done with the iPT in the past, I wouldn't expect much. They did a "well I guess we either spice it up or drop it from the line" upgrade last time after a LONG, LONG wait.

I'm dealing this this now as I can't hardly get apps on my < iOS 7 device. If it's not a flagship profit center, it's not a priority.

Given that WiFi is more popular, the iPT could become a replacement for the iPhone.

Cook gave an interview on Charlie Rose and said that they'd rather be the one that eats it's own market than have others eat their market. Funny thing is that the iPT and Mini are under upgraded so they don't eat their high profit market items.

Free (and insecure) wifi hotposts might be popular in the US, but they are not in many parts of the world. Even if there are, they are usually overcrowded that they are basically useless.

iPod Touch have less "features" because Apple has to reach the $200 price point while maintaining healthy margin. If Apple was afraid of cannibalization, why do they offer an iPod Touch 128GB for less than a 16GB iPhone 5S?

The cost of production of the iPT and iPhone for that matter is actually pretty cheap. I did a compare of a 5" phone that was a top of the line phone and cheaper than the iPT. It had better offerings in every area from camera to memory.

Apple's simply pushing a old product that didn't come close to modern offerings. The processor maybe, but so much else is short changed, and the price is not competitive. Not really much reason to buy an iPT any more.

Apple's own sales data shows that iPod sales are not that great. So why bother improving the iPod Touch where they can sell iPhones that carries higher margin?

There's a reason that iPT sales suck. The product sucks. There never really was a value product with Apple, but they used to offer up to date tech.

The iPT is old tech, nothing new and exciting about it. The price is for new tech, so it way over priced for what you get.

It's sad because developers use it as a test device.

Things are still up in the air, but my next IpT is leaning towards an Iph6/+

I saw an interview with Cook on Charlie Rose and he said that they wanted to be the one to eat their own sales, but clearly the iPT and Mini were never made up to date.

Apple's got to realize that they are reaching the point where they'll run out of reasons to upgrade. The devices aren't cheap, esp outside the US. Most people might want one but it's just not in their budget.

I don't see Apple doing much more with the iPT or Mini. It used to be that the main difference was size, now they're offering sub-standard products at high prices. The sales reflect how the people feel about this. This is the same problem Apple had when Jobs left and they almost went out of business.

Aren't prices, specs, and features still proportional to everything Apple-wise?

For example, $250 for a 32 GB IpT6 could honestly go both ways...
some may see it as a device that's still only a 4" screen (well, at least me), marginal boost in processor, 1 GB of RAM, and many requested features (e.g. Touch ID, 3D Touch, GPS, etc.)

Others may see it as only $250 for a "decent" iDevice, whereas Iphones are still about 2x to 4x the cost of an IpT (off contract)

I guess that's a fair way to look at it. I compared it to a phone from another company that was much better in every spec and still cheaper, and it was a full blown top end 5" phone.

In the end, the market really tells how good something is. The iPT either isn't very good or the market really isn't there. It's kinda pricy for someone that already has a phone and doesn't need a non-phone device.

I don't have a smart phone, never have. I don't even use the two iPTs that I have for anything other than testing apps.

To me, the iPod Touch 6 is simply a good, high quality yet cheap device which complements my android phones and iPad Mini 4.

What exactly would you be able to do with an iPT that isn't covered by an Android phone and an Mini?

The Mini 4 and iPT both have iOS, portability. I don't think you get or need Apple Pay because you have Android. Android has to have all the music you want. The Mini 4 isn't bad, but it really should have had the features of the Air/iPhone6.

The M8 motion coprocessor for one - the iPad Mini 4 would be too big to lug around. I've yet to find a decent pedometer app on android (or at least one as accurate as that of the iPt).

Besides, I like having multiple devices; likewise I have many watches - they all tell the time but each is different.
