Is 16 GB enough?

For those of you who've had a chance to give your new iPad a test drive, is there any "buyer's regret" from those who bought the 16 GB model?

Considering the size of the iPad apps and the OS, do you find your iPad filling up faster than you expected?

(I have a 16GB 3G/Wifi model on order, and wonder if I should spring for the 32 GB).

Not for me. I have a 16GB iPhone so I already was pretty satisfied with the capacity. Before that I had an 8GB touch and 8GB Nexus One, so I don't feel shortchanged at all.

Origininally was going to get the 32gb then swiched to 16gb. No regrets here. I just ripped a DVD & at the AppleTV setting on handbrake @ 2000mbps a 2hr movie is a 1.7gb. So certianly depends on how you will use your ipad. Apps aren't much bigger than most iPhone apps. I won't be putting music on my ipad.
 
If you're someone who demands having 10 GB of music at your fingertips and hundreds of movie options - probably not. If you're an average user - more than enough.
 
I bought the 16gb one. My 3G is 16gb and I still haven't used up to its maximum capacity.
 
After filling my iPad up i still have 5gb free, and i could really fake a lot of photos and music i probably won't look at/ listen to if I needed more space than that.
 
I enjoy having everything in my library on my devices. I have several GB in movies and TV shows (17GB) and 3GB in music. I have a 16GB iPod touch and I feel very limited as to what I can hold.

64GB seems to be better for myself. I do not have the funds to buy an iPad, but I think I may have enough in a few months.

I have 40GB alone just in the TV show House M.D. and I want to always have my max amount of room so for me i bought the 64gb and no regrets here either. Amazing product.
 
Synced all my iPhone apps, added worms HD, civilization, plants vs zombies, Sam and max and a bunch of free iPad apps and games as well as my music and The movie Up and I have over 11 gb free. For me 16gb is plenty more than enough. I can't really see anyone needing more than the 16 gb unless they have a ton of movies that they want to store on the iPad. That's the only thing that really takes any space I think the biggest game I have seen is 200mb most are around 40-50 mb.

Very happy that I saved the 200 bucks and went with 16 gb.
 
Suppose it depends on what you plan to do. Most apps take up very little space. Photos are resized so pretty small too. Books are laughably tiny.

If you have a big audio or video collection that you always want with you, then you could use the space. Otherwise, probably not.
 
One app can take over a Gigabyte. You can't add memory to the device later, so IMO it's foolish to skimp and get 16GB. Buy hey, whatever floats your boat. Personally I would rather not have to worry about running out of space and 'managing' what I can and can't put on there. You can easily blow $100 or more on a meal one night for two people, I think worrying about that amount for something you will use constantly for months/years is....well, something to think about I suppose.
 
I'm satisfied with the 16gb one. With netflix and what not it isn't really nessicary to have all that space for movies. However only you know you best so if you know you are going to want to load it up with movies then you should go bigger.

Well I for one will surely benefit from the new iTunes feature that lets you 'down-convert' music on the fly... I have all my CDs ripped at 320kbs... Can I tell the difference between 192 and 320... In a word, no. I just figured why not keep it at 320 since my computer has MORE than enough room for it all and for the strange bird who comes to my home that might be able to tell the difference 320 should keep em from bitching... Anything over 320 and then its my 'very basic' sound system and speakers that are equally 'MEH' so anyone with a 'trained ear' enter my home at your own risk. :D

Okay so back to my 320k music files... I though I was being smart until I wanted to sync our (Wife and I) iPod touches and iPhones with our music but quickly realized all of our stuff was never gonna make it.... so I resorted to just putting 'favorites' on those devices.

But now that I can down-convert the audio (and likely not tell the difference) getting the entire music collection on our devices (and soon iPads) wont be stealing ALL the storage space. I've yet to try it but I'm sure it will make syncing that much longer but it's a one time thing and then just 'new stuff' as we buy more music.

All that being said... my wallet wants me to get the 16GB but my eyes say 64GB but my brain says... YOU ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF paying $200 for an extra 48GB flash.

Man... I love Apple but they really do pull some pretty sucky marketing decisions (and yes I do expect this of them but it doesn't mean I have to like it). ;)
 
I reserved the 16GB model and changed to 32GB at the very last minute while in the store. After I opened it, I felt instant regret spending the extra money.

Oh well, better to have too much than not enough and it was only $100.
 
I was planning on either 16GB or 32GB, leaning towards 32GB and it was going to be the 3G model. But I've come to decide I'll get the Wifi-only model instead. So now I think I'm going to put more money into memory since I'm saving on the 3G feature, so I'm getting 64GB. 32GB would be fine actually, as I can sync the TV shows and movies from my Macbook Pro when I need to, and have a selection of things I want to watch in the near future. But with the 64GB model, it will mean syncing less often.

Come on Apple, release in the UK already!
 
64 GB for me. With only a subset of my movies and music, I am about at 40 GB. And I will be putting more stuff on it.
 
If I'm successful in using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit to effectively and efficiently store photos taken with my digital SLR when I'm on a trip, then 64GB is absolutely necessary. It is not uncommon for me to take 1,000 - 1,500 RAW photos on a trip. My camera's RAW files are 23MB in size, on average. 1,000 photos will take over 23GB of storage. A 32GB iPad would be way too little storage. I'll have music, games and movies on there too.

If all goes as I hope, I won't be toting around a (relatively) heavy MacBook Pro on trips anymore.

And when the 128GB iPad with front-facing camera comes along, I'll get that one too! :)

I was going to get the 16gb iPad but made a last minute change to get the 32gb. After all of the things I have loaded up just to play around with, I am glad I got the 32. Especially seeing how much space the OS alone takes.
 
I am in the same boat as the poster.

is 16 going to be enough for me needs - Ive had an 8gig iPod touch for sometime now, and I've only used 7Gigs worth... and I have ALOT of Apps, and a good selection of music...

Im going with the 3G, I know that much - but I mean, for an EXTRA 100$, is it worth it to get double the space?! I mean, Im planning on keeping the iPad for atleast a year or more...

In my opinion, I think 16 would be fine, but I see the value of $100 for 16 more to make it 32. It's just.. I want to have the piece of mind knowing I can keep my thousands of photos, music, movies and apps.. and not worry about enuff space. So Im STILL on the fence, but I think Im falling on 32.

Streaming?

I'd be curious who envisions streaming most of their movies, music, etc. to their iPad from a remote source at home?

I've yet to purchase an iPad, but would almost certainly choose the least expensive. Even 64GB of storage is nothing if dealing with larger files, such as movies; it took no time at all to max out the 160GB of this MacBook.

Have you considered the day when all is full, and how then best to organize things in purchasing new content?
 
I had reserved a 16gb, but decided overnight to go with a larger size. Apple let me have a 32gb with no fuss. I'm very glad I went with the larger size. I loaded the thing up with over 16gb of media and apps quickly.

As the saying goes, buy as much as you can afford.
