I don't think any one even has MBA as the only computer. It doesn't have firewire, only one USB and no built in DVD/R/RW drive. But as I recall, it was also specifically introduced as a second computer, assuming you already have another beast running OS X (or god forbid, something else). I don't feel a compelling reason to run the full fledged OS X in every device. That is why why feel that one light weight companion device can be replaced with another lightweight companion device for many, but not all, users.

Therefore I do feel that low end MBA would face at least as much competition from iPad as the top end iPod touch.

Dollar for dollar the 64GB is the best buy. You get 400% the storage of the 16GB model at 140% the price.

Unless you have a specific usage model that you know will fit the smaller models, the 64GB is the one I would go for, if only to buy for the future.

That's one way to look at it. Or...

You can get one 64GB iPad for $700 or two 16GB iPads for $1,000.

You get twice the iPads at ~140% of the price.

After all, what good is 64GB of iPad if your wife or kid has swiped it?

Dollar for dollar, the flash isn't even close to the price Apple is charging for it. Guaranteed Apple's margins get fatter as you move up in storage.

In terms of VALUE, the $500 16GB version is most likely the best value. The incremental use of more flash is much lower than the incremental use from a second iPad.

Throw in the very real possibility of streaming from your desktop a la the MobileMe Gallery app does now for videos and the 16GB model with MobileMe becomes the best value.

Just another view.

I'm selling my Air and getting an iPad. Wifi only.

Right now, I'm thinking 16gb. I have a 32gb iPhone 3GS. I can't see storing much if ANY music on the iPad. Why would I? I don't need to look at the device when listening to music and my iPhone is with me always anyway.
iPhone will be my storage and 'iPod'.

As far as storing video, frankly I'm around a computer enough to sync. Also, we know it'll do 'file sharing' and with streaming, and the possibility of USB connectivity?.... I'm questioning the need for big storage.
When pondering when/where I'll use it, it's: home, vaca, airplanes.

I'll be in the upgrade game with this. Each year. I'm not locked into the 16gb, just that I think it's good enough for my use. I think once things become a bit more clearer, I'll assess the size. Have 2 months to go on this. I'd mostly be interested in better resale value I think.

I'll be in line.
