to put things into perspective a certain William Gates once said nobody will ever need more that 640k of ram that why we have made the PC memory map as it is with the 640k in the middle os at the bottom and graphics at the top.
IMHO bung in enough for what you do browsing 4 gig OK photo editing as much as the machine will hold or what you can justify to the other half
