Planned Obsolescence should be by the way of introducing new innovative technologies and hardware which leave old products to bite the dust naturally. Not by deliberately crippling older devices through software updates.

PO was real. Apple got the heat from most tech websites and their engineers do read MacRumors posts. The badwill generated was too great to ignore.

The guy @Radon87000 had a point about UI stuttering. Many many people including myself were affected by it. You simply cannot come and post passive aggressively and dismiss all of us outright.

Actually I would say that we had a small victory that Apple backtracked. All our bitching about UI performance worked in our favor. They have realised that optimising iOS for older devices is needed to keep their public image intact. Otherwise, what's the difference between stuttering Android and stuttering iOS?

Btw same can be said about your Planned Apple Love theories which just polish Apple's shortcomings with pure unadulterated love.
Issues and inconsistencies and the like do not on their own make for a conspiracy (while they can make for a conspiracy theory, or two, or three, just like pretty much anything can).

UI/UX redesign from 6 to 7, under the hood redesign opening up much more from 7 to 8, something that didn't work out as planned from 8 to 9, and things improved and more from 9 to 10. Though apparently "some people" see iOS 8 as a great version and compare things against it, while many others don't really see iOS 9 really any worse off than iOS 8, so it seems like even what you mentioned doesn't quite hold, and even for those that it does, there are certainly plenty of realistic possibilities outside of a "conspiracy".

Knowing how bad 4s was with ios8 and that it was basically unusable with ios9 I wonder about the fate of 5s and ios10. My 5s already slowed down a bit when I updated to ios9. What's your opinion about using ios10 with 5s?
My experience: iPhone 5s, 32gb, public beta 3 for 4 days. My old phone my dad has now. I backed it up and upgraded to iOS 10 and let my dad use it for a day just to get his feedback (and annoyances). It was sluggish, noticeably. But he was using the camera and using iCloud and Siri. Maybe it's just re-indexing etc? But the next day he said that was gone. I used it that day for 6 hours as a second camera, and it was just fine. Compared to the 6s Plus I have, iOS 10 feels a bit less responsible. But I have the same with iOS 9. It's certainly not the case that 10 is slower than 9, but most certainly not faster. It however does make me 'feel' that 10 is going to be the last OS for that phone. The 64bit support on the 5s is quite impressive. We both didn't think about it anymore on days 3 and 4 that it was 10. It just felt like a normal phone again with an update to iOS9. Not a moment I went 'ugh, this 10 update.. sigh'. Just for stability reasons and to not confuse my aging father with new things in apps I restored it to 9.3.4 again.
I hope that personal experience helps you get some insight.

Well what do you know.Take a look at what the OP said below . I agree iOS 10 is better than 9.Planned obsolescence won't work this time as Apple is trying really hard to get people NOT to buy the iPhone 7 with hardly any new features
Not everyone has a 5s, 6, 6s.

Actually 10 is better than 8 was as well.

If I find anyone with 8.4.1 on their 5s, I will compare with my 5s with iOS10.
After a few days I definitely feel my 5s has become more responsive after upgrading from iOS9. I'm very happy with the iOS10 so far.

Easy:

iOS 7 had completely new UI with new effects like blur which were too taxing for older hw

iOS 8 had new stuff had vastly expanded interoperability with Extensions and stuff.

iOS 9 switched GUI rendering to Metal on 64bit devices, which is why graphics were actually smoother on older devices like i5 that stayed with OpenGL. And even more stuff in the background like Proactive.

iOS 10 dropped support for iPhone 4s and iPad 3, which would have suffered the most with new features. This means that the devices which do get 10 are capable enough (1 GB RAM is minimum) to run it well.

This way, Apple limits effects of aging devices not being capable of running 10 well, even if, yes, some older devices are left behind.

What about battery life on the 5s with iOS 10? It bumps me out when I see people say their 5s battery holds up as good as day 1 (or maybe they bought their phones later than me) because mine is weak and in iOS 9 it so happened that the phone would turn off on its own during a Skype call or a google maps navigation at around 30% battery life a few times...

iOS 10 won't have any profound effect on the battery life. If anything, it will be very slightly longer. iOS 10 seems to be the first major version that is in fact as fast as its predecessor, and maybe a little bit faster.

So 5s worth that upgrade or risky because old?

They improved the scrolling engine in iOS10. Especially the older devices should profit from this.

I installed yesterday so I cannot give you a detailed response.

No problem installing OTA in my 5s. It doesn't feel slower (nor faster).

What I don't like:
-The notifications; now its grey with borders inside.
-An extra page/layer to access sound and music controls.

Its something I might get used to. For the rest, it seems like a small improvements.

For a x.0.x version, it looks good (stable). Doubt Apple will do a planned obsolescence in future updates to iOS 10.x.

My opinion? It is worth it.
