is not enough for me... If you got quite a lot of data to carry around, external hard drive is the only solution for you, otherwise you can get the 13" 256GB

true if your files are data intensive.. and there are many of them for example video you need an external hard drive.

if you are working with smaller files < 10 Mbs and only need to grab a few every now and then you can just store them on a FTP.

iPhone 4 + iProxy (Free tethering on non Jailbroken phones) = unlimited disk space wherever you are.

I have the 11.6" MBA with 128G storage. I installed a few small benchmark apps and one big game (Steam, Portal, and Team Fortress).

So far I've used up 38GB. Since the 128GB formatted is 121GB, I have 83GB left. If this was a 64GB storage, it's likely 60GB formatted, which, in my case, would leave only 22GB free. Glad I got the 128GB model.

How does it handle the games ?

EDIT, just remembered you have a web site ;)

I have an iMac 27" 2TB + plus several external HD, one working as a server to access my files everywhere, so even when I am not at home I can access all my files on my 2TB imac and my external hard drive, then 64Gb MBA 11" was my choice, better than my iPad.

I just ordered my 64gb MacBook air with the samm CPU.
I'm sure the space will be no problem at all for me, i got a 2tb NAS server and a desktop with 1600gb og storage.
I use the NAS server for streaming movies and music. Then i use Google Docs and Dropbox for my documents and other random study stuff.
The apps i need on my MBA is the office suite(maybe also iwork) and then photoshop.
Actually i'm expecting to have a little less than 40gb free space when i'm done installing apps. And i do have no need for more space at the moment so that is just perfect!
Still if you at any time need to bring a movie the 30-35gb left on my drive will still carry somewere between 20 and 2 films depending on quality.

I would say the the 128gb is totally waste of money, as SSD is a very exspensive storage type. instead get one of those 2.5" external harddrive. Belive me they are small and quite cheap too, and when you think about it how often do you actually have to carry around movies and big picture collections?

Note.
I can also recommend buying a one year grooveshark subscription for only 30 dollars and you will be able to stream all the music you want, and save some gigs that way

I think I have settled on the 1.4 4GB RAM and 64GB HD.

I'm still a bit worried about the HD, but my view is that I will still have lots of space with the office loaded, lightroom but without tons of files, and maybe 15GB of music. When I looked at my MBP, without my music and photos, I had used only about 20GBs of space. Does that seem right, and like it would translate over to a Macbook Air?

How are other people doing with similar stuff loaded?

It is really more of a travel computer for me, so I don't think I need the space.

I'm fine with 64GB disk space. (11", 4GB, 64GB, 1.4GHz)

I have Dropbox selective syncing so I've got all essencial work related files with me. For media stuff, I'm usually streaming web contents, and I've got my own server if I want my own media files on the go.

With all files I need locally (mainly via Dropbox) and applications I need, 4 email accounts with 50k messages, local copy of Evernote and a few other cloud based services, I still have 33GB of free space left.

The problem with moving all one's media libraries on an external hard drive, is that you lose the internal SSD speed advantages when you are working with those libraries. Or am I wrong?

It seems to me that storage is never enough, the more you have, the more you need. My iMac has 320GB but I had to put my iPhoto library on an external hard drive. I can use iPhoto just fine, but I wonder if it would be the same smooth experience on the 11" Air.

On the other hand, I have almost 20GB free on my 32GB iPad. Depends on what you want to have with you all the time I guess. If 49.8GB are enough for applications and documents, then the 64GB should be fine.

I believe that you will have about 50GBs free with OS X on there. Someone else want to chime in on this who has one? Unless you have very small library i would look to go bigger

52 with minimal install after I reinstalled. No iLife. 47 when I received it.

+1 on this. have asked it numerous threads to no avail. Do you lose snappyness of SSD if all media on external HDD through USB or wifi and AEBS/TM/NAS etc?

For what I plan to use this laptop for, it seems like more than enough. I had an Acer netbook with 120gb and it seemed like overkill for my needs. My iMac desktop with 320gb + 1tb external backup/storage is good for what I need at home.

The MacBook Air would make a great web browsing/photo editing/chat/light gaming machine with 64GB of storage. If you download alot of music or video, or torrents, or anything of this nature...the 128GB or 256GB is absolutely necessary. If all you have is your apps and you use the machine just for web browsing and work with no huge downloads, and you don't plan to keep loads of video or anything of this nature on the internal storage, then you could get by on 64GB

I opted for the 128 GB FS model because I want to be able load it up with movies during traveling. A DVD rip is easily ~ 8 GB in size, and >10 GB for HD mkv files. I also want to use it to sync my 16 GB iPhone and 64 GB iPad. The backups for these 2 device were already ~ 10 GB.

By the way, here is how you can instantly gain 2 GB or 4 GB of flash storage space back (depending on the size of your RAM) -

Unless, you don't have a habit of saving your files before sleep, there's really no reason not to use hibernation mode 0.
