64GB is enough for me — barely. For that reason, I'm glads I went with 128GB. I store my music on my iPhone, not my iPad, however and 64G is way too small for me. 128 was not an option on my XS so I went with 256GB and am happy with my decision.

The point is that I am not anyone else here and vise versa. There is only one correct answer:

It depends on your needs. If there's any doubt, go up a size for the future.

There’s obviously not a correct answer that applies to everyone. I use a 32GB iPad and it’s no issue. You should figure out how much space you need and start there.

I’ve seen a lot of stupid posts here on MR, but this one takes the cake. You have to be real dense to store 4K Lossless Ultra-HD Blu-ray content on an iPad that 100% can’t make use of any of that. But hey, if your whole goal is to satisfy inadequacies with iPad storage size and pointless exercises in blowing storage space, might I recommend spending that extra money on a therapist, rather than a 512GB model?
Excuse me, but if you like to use a tablet/phone that can have the same storage as hard drives released 20 years ago that's your problem. If you are stuck in the 1990's, when 64 GB was AAAAAAAAAAAAWESOME DUUUUUDE, some of us are not.

I already surpassed 64 GB in my iPAD Pro 10.5 and I am not even storing any untouched content such as 30-50 GB files from movies. I did that with lossy/smaller videos, and not many of them.

64 GB these days is nothing but epic failure, the first iPAD released in 2010 had that! You would think that after almost a decade all users would ditch it and consider ridiculous, yet some still can't see what a scam it is to have that storage in 2019.

My C: drive/SSD (from my PC) has 120 GB (I bought when SSD was still new, and pretty expensive - that's my excuse) and I don't even install any software in it. And it begs me to be replaced (using Windows 10-64 bit), since it's often almost full or with a little more than 20, 30 GB of free space. I don't have tons of games and apps in my PC, and still this sort of thing happens!

64 GB is nothing, even a cheap pendrive has 256 GB these days.

It's not my fault Apple likes to rip off all customers. That's no excuse for YOU being petty.

And again: it's not just videos, unless you plan to use your device just for visiting websites, it will be filled quickly.

I like to evolve and after I discovered these same 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray movies can be displayed just fine in this iPAD with no issues (even if the file has 60 GB) then it became inconceivable for me to buy less than 256/512 GB.

And the argument of using the internet to store ALL your stuff should be disregarded. Currently I have terabytes of free space from Google, spread over multiple accounts. This isn't the solution since I'll still need to store in the device and don't rely on being online and with very fast broadband speeds 24/7. I only use Google, Dropbox or similar services for backup purposes.

I always try to avoid lossy videos when LOSSLESS is available. I know this isn't going to help much in a tiny screen, it's just that most of the time you are faced with lousy files generated in the worst way possible from the original discs.

If image/audio quality is not important to you it is to me, so the hell with the filesize.

Everyone is always “future proofing” so much and they don’t realize by the time they might even need more space is far past the time they would have upgraded anyway
Lol, my first iPad was a 32GB iPad 2 (preordered) thinking it would be adequate for my needs. Filled it up the same weekend I received it and I ended up ordering the 64GB iPad 2 (backordered 1-2 months already, I think?). I didn't want to go without an iPad that long so I ended up giving the 32GB to my mom when I finally got my 64GB. Even then, 64GB stopped being enough for me even before the 128GB iPad 4 was released. I couldn't update my apps on the 64GB iPad 3 because I didn't have enough space.

I don't future proof but I know I require a lot of storage else I'll likely need to constantly manage/switch out content after just a month or so. Note, I have a 20TB NAS at home so no, I'm not trying to store all my stuff on an iPad. They won't fit. I just like having a nice selection of content available for whatever tickles my fancy (favorites and TBR/TBW pile).

I usually get top storage + LTE. Pricey, sure, but those features are what's ideal for my usage. I just upgrade when there's a feature I really, really want (which is often more storage ). Annual depreciation is killer otherwise. For me, those two features are more important than always having the latest model.

I have 5 devices in my household that I pay for. So $150-$300 a piece is a hefty bit of money.
In fairness, you probably don't need to upgrade storage on all devices in the household. I do it on mine because I have a use for it and relying on the cloud/internet isn't a viable alternative. For the rest of household, I just get them what they need which given their usage (Facebook, video streaming, online banking, casual games) is just the base 32-64GB storage.

Even on my devices, I'm selective. I tend to max out the iPad because I know I'll need/use extra storage there. The iPhone, I can easily live with 128-256GB and can even get by on 64GB if necessary.

Agreed. This is why I selected it depends. Also what we require to be necessary varies. I would love to have all my content locally on my device but it isn’t a necessity. Every time I buy an Apple device I get the minimum and justify buying one more share of AAPL with the amount saved for each device. Maybe some day they will go up and I can sell them back for more than a 64GB memory bump. That could become the new metric how much memory does one share buy?

One day the minimum will be 128 and that would be great. However I find if I have more storage eventually it just fills up with stuff I never use. If managed 64GB even on an iPad is plenty. Before you go on that road trip with out internet at the lake cabin sync up content. Also with this many devices you are right I don’t need that much content the others can sync their favorites and that burden is on them. So everybody should have stuff they like. There are very few places away from WiFi and cell signals. When I am at the bottom of the Grand Canyon I am probably not that focused on movies however it is nice to have something to watch at night or tunes by the campfire.

I also find if there is more than one person too much memory can turn your device into the Netflix nightmare of scrolling through film after film with indifference. Make the choice 12 films on,y you will decide very quickly.
