You can also get it on Amazon for around $69.
I did that last year for the first time (been member since .mac days) and it worked flawlessly.

+1 This. That's how I bought my subscription. When I went to get my iPhone earlier this month and my iPad a few months ago, they asked me if I want to get mobile me at the "discounted price". I just told them no, I already get it at that price off of amazon. Then they thank me for the tip.

While I knew about this, I've never actually been able to do it this way. 1st year was free (as an Apple Employee). 2nd year (no longer an employee), I just went in to the store and talked to a buddy of mine and he gave it to me for the discounted price. Last year, I waited too long, so I ended up paying full retail. :(

Overall, though I love it, and don't ever see myself dropping the service. For some reason, I just can't get into g-mail - I really hate the way it handles email, so I stay away from gmail & gcal.

I had the free trial for just over a month. I thought the benefit of having a cloud based storage would be beneficial as I do some school work on my iMac and some on my MBP. The problem is trying to figure out what is what. I just cancelled the free trial and determined I would just copy any files when I am at home on my own network (just got an airport extreme and I think it is awesome). I liked having the calendar sync, but it kept rearranging my dock in an odd way. I thought I was dictating it to keep them the same but either it, or I, was doing something off-key.

Overall, $99 seems like a lot for what it is. When I finally get my iPhone in January, I might think differently. I will have to wait and see.

I have an iPhone, and iPad, and three Macs. I rely on MM to keep my contacts, calendars, and bookmarks in sync. Since Apple took care of the startup glitches, it's worked very well for me. However, I continue to use Dropbox over iDisk because iDisk is so slow.

Thats pretty much where MM really helped me , all my products are mac and i love the way MobileMe syncs them together :).

When i got my iMac i didn't need to transfer my contact and bookmarks etc, its all over the air ;) so yea freakin sweet :)

I have Dropbox. Love it. Never come
close to exceeding the 2GB I get for free.
I put all my personal documents in there
and share it across computers.

Amazingly, after having MobileMe for
about 3 years now, I have never tried
iDisk.

Is it the same thing as Dropbox essentially?

How much storage space is included with
your MobileMe subscription?

Thanks

...

you get 20gb shared for everything on mobileme.. by default u get 10gigs for idisk, which is customizable to about 17gb max.

I only subscribed for the sync functions...they work great. The rest is just really bad...iDisk kind of sucks (slow and a lot of functions missing), email is useless to me and sharing photos is OK but nothing extraordinary.
MM has a huge potential and I really wonder what they do with all the money they get from us...they surely not re-invest it to develop MM...maybe a tiny part of it but most revenue goes to iPhone/iPad dev I am sure...

Bottom line, sync is great, rest is not that good...and overall it is overpriced. If it does not get better within 12 months I won't renew.

Yeh I guess you should really go with the trial for MobileMe. However You'll see that tools like Dropbox and other alternative services can really give you the same thing

Dropbox does not do what I expect...for instance, you load an album or multiple photos and provide the link to a friend...so far so good...but my friend can only download one photo at the time...how bad/stupid is that???
