Is an 07 Mac mini a good start?

You can't run ddr3 memory in a machine designed for ddr2 memory...
Doesn't work that way...;)

Even though you have an iPhone, I'd still start with Snow Leopard.
As far as I'm concerned, best damned OS apple has ever made.

i thought so but was not sure. i ordered the one posted by the other user which is ddr2 ill just send the other one back thanks.
 
Program compatibility, your computer being supported for longer in the future... Eventually you'll run into programs that require the latest operating system.
 
ok i just got the mini in the mail and have only got to play with it for 10 minutes but i dont know how much faster i can get it. i must be use to my hp pavillion dv2500 cause as soon as a web address was in it loaded and it was pretty responsive all around. you guys must have your pcs going to websites before you think of it. for my needs its plenty fast although its a clean os x install so im sure it will bog down after a while. i didnt really do any multi tasking either. so far so good.

Same here haven't seen an 09 close to that price I'd buy it.
 
Ok so I added the 2gb of ram as suggested in here. Went off almost without a hitch I lost sound in the speaker and freaked until I searched the forum and found it was a common mistake I had the gold ribbon thing in but not locked in. Got it installed properly and voila sound was back everything is good. System is reporting my 3 gb of ram. Thanks everyone for the suggestions really liking this machine it's plenty fast for me and I'm adjusting to OS X well . I get brain farts still when I go to find my computer to access music files forgetting its finder now not my computer but other then that the os rocks. Ill definitely pick up a new mini when necessary.
