I have no idea where you read those dogs because Apple had those docs sealed for years.

How did Apple have FCC doc sealed for years, when the FCC got the iPhone this year? Also Apple can't have them sealed, the FCC release all its info when approving device to the public.

Apple has already done this in the past - ::hint::hint:: Airport Wireless Card after an update now supports 802.11N

This was already talked about in another thread, there is a difference since 3G is a different type of network them Wireless N....wireless N didn't have to be approved by the govn't, 3G does.

Don't be surprised by an update later this year to unlock 3G on the iPhone

I'd be shocked, it there is. Happy, but shocked!

I agree, this is the exact thing a buddy and i were discussing, how could (would) apple make such and advanced product but age old technology...doesn't seem very apple like. My thoughts is they are waiting until at&t has fully deployed or more like 75% of the markets have 3g then say ..oh yeah the iphone DOES have 3g.;)

Actually, in talking in the IRC channel it would appear that one of the chipsets may indeed be 3G, by Samsung. This became apparent after AT commands were sent to the baseband in an effort to unlock the GSM radio.

Some of the chips can be used in 3G phones. Big difference from actually having it.

To the dude that commented that the docs from the FCC indicates that the iPhone does not have 3G - I have no idea where you read those dogs because Apple had those docs sealed for years.

You mean these FCC docs?

FCC documents state with pictures that it does not have any kind of highspeed hardware. you cannot lie to the FCC or you are screwed

Just curious where did you see this (not saying you're wrong) but i just read the report sent to the FCC where Apple requested for the Radio Schematic, Radio Bill of Material and Radio Tune up Procedure to be Permanently Confidential.

Maybe its just me but they seem to be awfully antsy about the radio in the iphone...again my 2cents

No more ghetto than the wireless sled treo owners have to put up with. ;)

the treo has 3G however, most treo users will just use their carriers internet connection. and besides, the treo sucks. its has a SQUARE SCREEN!!!! 1:1

EDIt: found that sled you were talking about, WTF is this! do you really want a 3g adapter similar to the one in the website on your phone? if i were going to throw something that big onto the phone i might as well get a double capacity battery so i can just use the 3g connection.
