I am fairly pleased with MobileMe. It is very useful for me and defiantly worth the $99 a year. I use iCal a lot- well, for almost everything and would have to sync my iPhone many times daily to have the latest events on it. With MobileMe, that is no longer. I have had great luck with push so far and am pleased. I fand the web interface slower than .Mac, but I hardly use it so not a big deal to me.

Quite Unhappy

Mail groups are gone without so much as rueful glance.

Push / Sync doesn't work worth a darn. My Contacts and Calendar have disappeared from my iPhone and left me to watch a little spinner next to the WiFi signal strength icon.

Worst, what was so terrible about .mac.com? .me is just too precious for words. I-phone, dot ME, dot MINE dot MINE dot MINE???

No, not happy. I want to be able to reply to emails I have forwarded from my hotmail account FROM my hotmail account, not .me account. That is to say, without a bunch of jerry rigging everything using gmail, etc. For $100 bucks a year should I have to do that with a supposed 'Exchange for the rest of us" service? Also... having my computer sync every 15 minutes when it's supposed to be instantaneous! Not acceptable. Steve Jobs - you're out.

I'm ecstatic about it. I'm actually in the process of transferring all of my email over to my .me account. I love the web interface, and I love how the email is organized better than my gmail account. I like that I can keep things organized by folders instead of "labels". Although, I will miss "conversations" in gmail :/ But yeah, having my calendar, email, photos, contacts all in one place... that's ideal for me. Also, 20 gigs of storage split up between file storage and email is perfect :) I just can't wait until they release the feature that lets me send files to people... such a helpful feature.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... when have you ever been able to do *anything* with a hotmail account. I'm surprised to hear anyone still uses hotmail... Blech.

So far it has been a complete annoyance. It really doesn't seem to work very well with Tiger at all, and lets be honest, many people still use Tiger and will for a while yet.
It seems to be very slow sending mail, has re-arranged my mailboxes, has un-registered my computer and will NOT sync.

So far I hate it. And why have the alias's gone?

Just bob on over to the Mac support site. There are so many people having problems with it. It should never have been released like this. It obviously isn't ready. Now so many people are stuck in no-mans land and Apple does not appear to be publicly acknowledging it.

I love my Mac and Apple and I don't mean to sound negative. Come on Apple, get back to your roots!

Or not just hotmail, but any email. Blackberry handles the whole push thing much better - this is a paid service, we should be getting more.

I'm VERY happy with MobileMe. It's working 100% for me, and I'll purchase it after my trial period.

What do you mean web hosting service? MobileMe is part of the iphone, if it's not working, then the iphone is not complete.

Why do all these Mac web sites mum on such a disaster? did Apple pay to these rumor sites?

MobileMe is not PART of the iPhone, it's just a service that the iPhone can utilize, it also has web hosting, iDisk, backup options, file sharing, webmail etc

If he has had the hotmail address for a long time he probably doesn't want to change it, this is likely why he wants to access his hotmail from MobileMe and when he hits reply wants the emails to look like they came from the hotmail address while all the time he is using the more superior interface and features of MobileMe webmail... seems fairly logical

New Coke Meets Vista

Let's face it: MobileMe is Apple's "New Coke" and "Vista" rolled into one. It is simply a disaster, and the ads for this monster are fraudulent.

I don't know who dreamed up this fiasco, but somebody needs to lose his job.

Exchange for the rest of us? Precisely. Just like a genuine Borg product, this thing is overdesigned, overhyped, bloated, badly implemented, and barely functional.

Say what you will about .mac, but at least it worked.

Back to .mac should be our cry!

Has potential

I actually like MobileMe, I certainly like the concept and although the 'concept' doesn't quite work as it should 'yet' it certainly does have potential. Let's face it, MobileMe is not even 1 week old yet, let's give Apple some time to work out the kinks..... they are usually pretty good about listening to customer complaints and fixing things eventually.

The point was, it isn't Apple or mobileme's fault that hotmail doesn't play well with others. Hotmail is ad supported and it is in their best interest to make sure all e-mail is sent and received through their web interface. Microsoft isn't even letting people use their OWN mail clients (Outlook Express, Outlook)with hotmail after a few months from now. This is a Microsoft issue, and should be vented about on a Microsoft forum.

I sent an e-mail to all of my contacts two weeks ago with my new .me alias and told them not to send mail to my hotmail account. Problem solved.

It has nothing to do with Hotmail or how that service 'plays with others'. MobileMe, doesn't let you specify the 'reply to' address. I have the same problem, I have my Gmail forwarded to MobileMe and trust me Gmail is one of the most advanced web based email systems ever.. but it doesn't matter, there isn't an option in MobileMe for me to specify my reply to address as my Gmail address so if I reply to an email that came from Gmail it shows it coming from the @me.com address.

Other than the goofy name, I like the service. I liked the name .mac better.

I think it does what it advertised to do. Anyone expecting more hopefully tried the free 60 day trial first, then they shouldn't be too disappointed since it is thus far free. The one slightly annoying thing is the MAX 15 min delay is syncing from a mac to the web, but otherwise the rest is push right on time. The 15 min delay isn't a deal breaker for me and will more than likely be fixed with Snow Leopard since it will have built in exchange support, IMO.

A comment was made that Blackberry has better push... they should. They've been doing it a lot longer and more widespread. Plus, they only have push on a BES which is not normally found at the consumer level and is more of an enterprise solution. Most consumers will have BIS which indeed does not push.

We have all just adopted a new technology which I'm sure will only improve with time. I am not a blind Apple fanboy, although I do mostly like what I have of theirs. Having said that, I had .mac for over a year before MM and enjoyed most all of it's features except iCards so that was no loss to me. If someone purchased it solely for use with the iPhone I guess I could see where the value isn't there. But the galleries used with iPhoto, and the web hosting used with iWeb along with the 20 gig of idisk space make the value there for someone like me who uses those services.

Hopefully they get the web hosting fixed soon.

Put your gmail account on the iPhone and then you can reply from it from your MM account.

I felt that the transition was handled poorly, they could have done with some better communication about what was happening.

As for the service my two gripes are:

1) Browser Support. No matter how much "standards compliance" BS spin you put on it, people can't always use the latest version of Firefox or Safari. An automatic switch to a "lite" version of the site with much better compatibility would be a lot more professional than a nag screen that in my experience is hard to get rid of no matter what browser you use (even Firefox 3 on Linux) me.com is not really designed for when you are on your home Mac/PC - it's when you are out and need your services to work.

2) The misleading marketing around Push capabilities in Mac OS X. The sole reason I got MobileMe was to keep my computers in sync. I expected that any change in iCal or Address Book would instantly be pushed to MobileMe.

Both are quite easy to fix from a technical standpoint, but Apple is often reluctant to do more than the bare minimum.

.mac may have been lame, but at least Apple didn't make false claims in its advertising to establish that product image.

uh? MobileMe is really good. not perfect..I would like the reply from for other email addresses that don't originate in mobileme, but besides that it works as I had hoped between multiple platforms and devices for contacts, calendars, mail, etc.

People forget that it has been very difficult in the past to accomplish these things between a mac and a pc, let alone wireless and push. Granted direct wired synch on both a pc and a mac works on an iphone in itunes, but what a hassle.

Mobileme along with the new apps have made getting this new iphone much much better of an experience than just a new phone.

So to answer the OP... Yes
