I am going to wait until WWDC to buy a bigger one...

It seems like no one is buying them anymore.

I want a display as well but I think that apple will unveil the Mac Pro at WWDC. Everyone is talking about how it will be in a new and amazing enclosure. The odds are that the display line will follow in the change. Not only that, I would expect a price drop. Apple's displays are the best looking displays on the planet. However, they are expensive. Apple is starting to find the right price points for it's customers. The new displays will be slightly cheaper and even better than before. I'm waiting.

...um, where'd you get that impression? Not that it's wrong - but are you basing this assertion off of anecdotal evidence alone?

if you are questioning the "bigger one" comment I think you might misunderstand. I don't think he means apple will come out with bigger displays but that he will be getting a bigger display. Is that what you were thinking.

I would guess that apple display sales have slowed down a little bit. Some people are expecting an update. This comment is a complete guess.

No....I'm questioning the 'no one is buying them anymore' assertion...

update or no update. i would happily buy a second 23" ACD... if i could afford it.

my current 23" cinema is the most beautiful monitor i have ever owned. ( i wouldnt mind a 30"... or two.. :) )

I bought a 20'' a few months ago....bigger? i doubt you'll see bigger then 30'' can time soon
a few years ago, macosrumors claimed that Apple was dropping the 17, 20 and 23" displays, and making 30" the base model. They did drop the 17 and brought out a 30, but its still the top of the line... :p

Computer screens wont get much bigger than they are now. They would cost too much to produce, and i find anything bigger than 23" is too big. I can understand how photoshoppers or gamers like 30", but for what i do, and what i guess a lot of people do, its just too behemoth.

For me, 17" is good, 20" is comfortable, 23" is getting a bit big.

As for new displays at WWDC, they may bring out a new case for them, higher res, faster response time and lower prices, but don't hold your breath for a bigger screen.

i think a lot of people shy away from the apple displays because they're just SO much more than the competition, and they offer less (in ports and such) than the others. when we can get a 24" widescreen for less than your 20", something is wrong, lol. i mean, i know 'apple premium' and what not, but it IS just a monitor.. the excellent design and research is great for actual computers (and worth the extra cost, IMO), but to pay double just so that your display has the apple logo and a sleeker look? no thanks...

Apple Displays are great and are selling well. They're not going to update everything every keynote, you know...
perhaps not at WWDC, but soon, I would think - that is, assuming the rumors of the updated case are true. if they change the look of any of the "pro" line, then they really must change them all. i mean, currently, "pro" = aluminum (MBP, PowerMac, ACD...).. and "consumer" = white plastic (MB, Mac Mini, iMac..).. as I'm sure that consistency wasn't a mistake, I'd assume they're not going to stray far from it.

Nobody said they update everything at every keynote....in fact if they did that then I would have a lot less fun in trying to figure out the keynote topics. :p

All I'm trying to say is that a new Mac Pro is rumored to have a new and improved enclosure. I expect the display to either follow along in some way or you will see a price drop. Or both (my vote goes to this option).

Wait till the next version comes out for a 20 / 23inch dependant on pricing and DSLR prices. I can wait and I am no hurry. I am looking forward to seeing what additional features and inputs the new cinema displays will have.

I have two 23" ACD's and they perform amazing. If I had to buy another set-up right now I'd buy another ACD no question. I just wish they had a few more ports.

If I remember correctly, Apple sold plastic displays long after WWDC2003 where the G5 PowerMacs were introduced. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Apple does not seem to be rushing changes to their displays.

And it _IS_ a good thing. Apple displays are precision monitors and the quality of ADC picture justifies the price. It really does! I would rather buy one Apple display even if someone sold me a hundred Dells for less money.

DVI is enough. Apple displays are all-digital, you know, so therefore composite/svideo/component are not offered.

And at least I'm perfectly okay with the number of firewire/usb ports :)

(I only hope Apple would sell longer replacement cables for the displays. I'd want to get the monitor further away from the computer...)

If you have the money and desperate for an Apple monitor, go for it, but don’t be deluded that you have somehow purchased something far superior - You haven’t.

At the end of the day, the LCD used comes from a company like LG and is just rebranded Apple or Dell and slipped into their cases.

The aluminium did not come out until 2004 (June?). I'm just saying if the Mac Pro is a Black and white circle enclosure the display will not continue to be a nice rectangle aluminum enclosure.

Again I'm not denying that they are the best monitor out (IMO) but I don't think they are the best bang for your buck.

Personaly I hope they don't update the displays anytime soon. I see no real reason to do this.

I run a small business and hope to add displays as people join the company. I would love it if they all match. I can't afford to buy several now to make sure they do.

OK thats just dumb.. Who told you that? your buddy's buddy? Give me a break...

I believe it was during the keynote where the aluminum displays were released (WWDC 2004, or was that just the 30''?), Jobs said something like "we already have some of the best displays on the market. Our competitors use the panels that we say we don't want, and today we're gonna make our displays even better"

Reality Distortion Field at work.
