512 gb 8gb Space Gray Pro owner here. Everything is so seamless. It's unreal. Granted, I do not run windows or any complicated programs. I am blown away. How can this be a first gen machine? I am now trying to figure out what to do about my other MacBooks because all I want to do is use this one. I am in love. Logic tells me I should return it and get the second gen version of it and I will eventually run into some major problems, but I don't want to take it back lol.

Please don't return the M1 Mac you're so impressed with.

"Logic tells me I should return it and get the second gen version of it ..." Really? What do ethics tell you? You knew it was first generation Apple Silicon, and it exceeds your expectations, so act in good faith.

I know Apple don't need me to fight their corner, and I know they can well afford returns policy abuse. But every time I read posts like yours, and there are very many on this forum, a little of my faith in the inherent decency of humanity dies.

I’m not just blown away, my pants will explode when all my apps are finally ported to AS. I think we have about 6 months wait for all the main Adobe apps.

I'm certainly blown away by the speed but then again, I came from a MBPR 15" Late 2013 so anything from this year would have been faster. What impresses me the most is the x86 translation/emulation. It's unreal. I have experience of another transition (PPC to Intel) which wasn't so seamless.

you are right, they don’t need you to fight. The return policy exists for a reason, and there’s nothing wrong with returning it within the timeframe.

Yes but @Spudlicious was taking about returning a perfectly good working item for no good reason.......and NOT returning it due to a fault or problem.
Then again, I have never bought anything with the intention of it being "Just to test it out" type of purchase...I buy things with the intention of keeping said item.....and only returning it if its not working correctly.

I am going to keep my machine. Nothing is concrete so why not enjoy this machine now?

You may be right, but returning a non-defective item is not something my conscience and sense of fair dealing can handle. Back in 2009 I bought a Hitachi impact driver from Amazon for £127. It was a beautifully made tool and worked perfectly, but at that time I had little money and regretted the cost, so I returned it. To this day I am troubled.

That’s not the reason a return policy exists..it’s not for returning it only in the case of a fault.
You can change your mind, you can decide you can’t afford it, you can believe your device will lead to end the world, if you don’t return it. Whatever the reason, a Lot of folks here buy a lot devices, and Give good business. I often buy devices to see if works or not, I’m an elite plus member @ Best Buy with extended return terms, due to the amount of spending, and Best Buy’s happy to give us perks in exchange.

I am very impressed with the power it has over my i5/8/512 Air. It doesn't work with my WD19 Dell Dock and I can't get iTunes 12.9.5 to work with Retroactive, which is a shame because the macOS music app is trash. iTunes worked perfect on the early 2020 Air.

I've bought multiple things from the Apple Store because I know they have the two week no questions asked return policy. On several occasions I've dithered over a purchase in the Apple Store for the Apple Store person to tell me that I could always just buy the item first, try it out in my normal use case, and bring it back for a full refund if I find out it doesn't work for me.

Without this policy I probably wouldn't have bought (and kept) my Airpods, Airpods Pro, 12" MB, M1 MBA, iPad Magic Keyboard, and a number of other accessories... (I've also returned a few things that I found didn't work for me!)

Absolutely. I've even moved my Music software from my aging 2015 iMac to this machine and the difference is astounding. My full orchestrations, which I worked through the limitations of the older Macs I had, seem to take hardly any toll on the MB Air M1 I got. Now I am free to push more intensive projects with this.

I do plan to replace my desktop so I think I'll wait for the next major brand of iMac to be the new dedicated desktop. But for now, this is my new workhorse until the new more powerful Arm-based desktops arrive. My intention was simply to replace my previous 2019 MacBook Air, (which I used for MainStage gigging) but didn't expect it to become my most powerful Mac I owned, by a long shot. Glad I got the 16GB, 1TB SSD options. So obviously, the desktop I get has to be better so I don't end up moving projects to the desktop and realize I can't work there.

I'm also excited for all the extra ARM support that will be ready by the time I can get that ARM Mac Desktop.
Hey Foiden,

What Orchestration software are you using? I'm fascinated, because I'm running a 2020 MBA i7 and seeing the performance improvements on the M1, I'm starting to wonder if I made the wrong call and should pass this one along and move on up. At times, my existing MBA makes so much fan noise that I'm considering including a sample of it in my next soundtrack!

So I wanted to report my battery life after my first full day with my m1 pro. I unplugged at 8am used it till 2:30. Used it again from 7:30 till 9:30 and still have 50% yet. Mind=blown!

No, logic isn't telling you anything because for you to love this product as you've stated then it's not logical to return it. It's only your curiosity. Honestly I never understand these types of posts. Why buy a computer you don't really need? If you're gonna keep chasing specs then you never needed it in the first place.

I must say, I have always been 'anti-mac' for a very long time. The reason why I switched was simply because of the M1 chip. I can see this being a massive shakeup in the cpu/gpu industry as intel has been primarily concerned about their shareholders than developing actual products. I believe the "recent" move by AMD with their Ryzen line and Apple revealing their own M1 silicon really shows how empty and horribly run Intel has been and how stagnant the industry has been for a while.

As Elon Musk has said, companies should spend less time in board meetings and more time on developing products.

Knowing the landscape a little bit, I think ARM will eventually take over x86 and Apple M1 is really just the beginning. Congrats to Apple and looking forward to more of their products, who knows, maybe I'll go full 'Apple'.

I had MB Pro 2014 13" (base config) as my Apple first machine and then MB Pro 15" 2014 (with GeForce) for few years.
I had problem with hight temperatures of both machines. I mean very hot laptop body, that wasn't comfy. Also 15" MB never was as much powerful for its price like should be. Battery life never was strong part of this laptop. So I sell it and work with hackintosh (HP Elite Book) for few months.

I have MB Air M1 and it's the best UX that I ever had with Apple product. From unboxing (more that month ago) to this days I'm very happy with it.
I like small light body, great retina display, touchID, fanless design. Finally, I can use my laptop many hours placed it on my legs without any heating. It's like a dream. Battery life is simply outstanding. And at last, SPEED.
Oh and this machine is for half price of my last MB Pro 15" 2014!!
There is only one minus - no native support for 2 external display. But there is workaround with DisplayLink, that I didn't tested yet.

Been a Mac guy for decades. Still have an old Wall Street (running OS9). Got the original titanium when it came out - that was perhaps the most revolutionary laptop. Got my wife the M1 Air base model. It’s the fastest, easiest, cleanest device I’ve ever used. Yes, I’m blown away. And it was cheaper than an iPad.

Can’t wait to see what’s next - especially an M1 iMac.

Love mine, went for the 1TB & 16UM. 200$ to future proof is a no brainer.

If Blizzard announce that Overwatch 2 will have a Mac version, i'll seriously consider it.
Want to see what Apple does with the new 16in, if they have a AMD GPU mobile Radeon card inside it would be good for gaming. The only thing I have seen running on the M1 a year ago was Tomb Raider running at 1080P low Resolution. I also want to see if Apple does a Mac Mini Pro tower.

I don't expect Apple to move away from integrated graphics, however I do expect the "M1X" (that will be in the higher performance MBP and iMac) to be way more capable in the graphics category.

Bought an 8/256 MB Pro and am blown away. Everything just works, fast, silent and battery life goes on forever. I am hoping that the 12-inch ultra-light format returns with M guts, as although I love this machine, but it is a bit chunky to carry everywhere all day long and the Air is not much lighter. Roll on M2, M3 and more

Transitioned from a 16" i7 rMBP to a base model Air.
Blown away by the fact that this machine is just as capable and I actually profited 700€ from the swap.
But I'm still going to get the M1X 16" Pro when it's released. 13" is too cramped for me.
Still, astounding performance. I can't believe how powerful this CPU can be without even using a fan.
