I know I'll probably get blasted for saying this, but I don't care. I am really feeling letdown after installing 2.0 on my iPhone plus I'm rather disappointed in the Apps I've downloaded. As far as 2.0, the only real feature I've seen that is useful is mass email deletes. So we've basically waited one year for that. As far as Apps, my number one interest in Apps was for a good eBook reader. I've downloaded two of the ones available and even paid for one of them and neither work. I paid for BookZ but everytime I try to open a file it crashes. Plus if you go to the website and author entries on iTunes, the links don't work. I feel like I've wasted my money on that one (granted it was very cheap). As far as eReader, whenever I try to install books from their website the download fails also. The other App I downloaded was AOL Radio. It is a nice App BUT you can't do anything else on your iPhone while listening to music. So no browsing on the web or reading eBooks or anything while listening. Another letdown. Other than that, I didn't see a whole lot of other Apps I was interested in. I could care less about playing games. Anyway, this has really put a damper on my feelings towards the iPhone. I sure am glad I'm not buying a 3G.

i've heard that downloading straight from the iphone is creating some problems. try dling to computer and then installing that way. i hope that you can redownload purchased items.
you will get blasted for that, yes, but I'm really glad you expressed your feelings. Far too many people, including myself, see Apple as the 'golden child' who can do no wrong, and it's not the case.

It's day #1.
The number of applications in the App Store is only going to grow from here out, and as the software developers become more familiar with how their apps perform in the real world, the coding is only going to get better. So hopefully you'll see bug fixes for your eBook problems soon and be able to see how easily the upgrade process works.

Well, the Facebook app is an improvement on the already great web app. Trism, Monkey Ball, and Bejeweled 2 are great. Box Office's integration with RottenTomatoes is great.
The remote app is also very cool and handy.

I guess what really bugs me is buying an App (BookZ) and it crashing everytime I use it and not being able to contact the author. The links in the App Store don't go anywhere. I am surprised Apple didn't have some checks in place to verify that the authors could be contacted. I did write a review of the App, but it hasn't been posted yet. I still have hopes for the eReader program and have sent in a support request to them. Unfortunately with it, there doesn't seem to be anyway you can create eBooks of your own. I love to capture large text files (usually travelogues) off the web and read them. There is one other eBook program but it costs $10 and I really hate to buy it without know how good it is. That is the problem with these Apps you purchase, there doesn't seem to be anyway to try them out first before you pay your money.
The Remote app works great for me.
And its not a letdown for me as long as I keep getting sales.
Wow, you're judging the entire thing based off of just the launch titles. Realize most developers only had 4 months to work on their apps, many had fewer than that time in which to work with actual hardware, and only a small fraction of potential developers actually got to develop anything for launch (Apple had something like 50,000 people request to license the SDK...and only approved 4,000 developers).
Give it another few months - now that the iPhone is actually open to third-party developers, it's got unlimited potential for software, unlike before where the best it could do is run snazzy web pages. And it'll just get more popular among developers when they see how much money the current apps are making.

I personally am looking for a mobile Wordpress or MarsEdit, and am a bit disappointed that they aren't there yet. Meanwhile, the glut of similar-sounding to-do apps of various prices is kind of annoying. I'm going to hibernate until September and wait for the dust to settle a bit.
EDIT: You know what would wash away all my cynicism? Final Fantasy VI for the iPhone. That would rock.

I feel a little bit let down. I would like a productivity app the interfaces with my email, calendar, to do list etc that also syncs with my mac. For example, I would like the ability to convert and email into an appointment or task (like Outlook).
Also, I'd like a single app for IM's, like Adium for the mac. Does Yahoo, AIM, MSN, Google Talk etc
A lot of these apps seem like the same web apps just converted to installs instead.

I would like to retract a little bit of what I first posted. I went ahead and purchased ($9.99) the Bookshelf program. Man, it works great. I guess it goes to show you get what you pay for. It also has a great program called ShelfServer that lets you copy eBooks directly from your PC or Mac. I just went thru and copied over about half a dozen eBooks to read in my spare time. Also, I installed the WeatherBug program and it's pretty good also. So I feel a lot better about 2.0 and the App Store now.
One observation - I wonder if they will ever be able to do anything about AOL Radio having to be in the foreground to play. I really like their music (as well as Pandora's) but it sure is a waste that once playing, that's all your iPhone can do.

my hacked ipod with ALL these apps (that are free) is never a letdown...
oh and btw, how big of an oversight was it for apple not to allow you to change your background wallpaper in 2.0? Thats probably the one thing that will keep me 'on the dark side'.
It's certainly a bummer to have apps that don't quite work. I'm a little concerned that some people are charging for apps that should be FREE (the voice note apps for one, and WHY would ANYONE charge for a "flashlight" app that doesn't even do S.O.S? Lame!) I feel bad to say that, because everyone deserves to get what they think they deserve... its just that I believe some people will BUY an app that turns out to be "ok", only to find a FREE app that would have done everything they wanted.
In any case... I'm BLOWN AWAY from the App Store and all the incredible apps I've been checking out. BoxOffice is insanely great. Pandora and AOL Radio are snazzy. Midomi had me laughing my head off it was pretty spot on guessing what I was singing, and listening to what other people sang to get that same result was hilarious! Sketches is nothing short of BRILLIANT, and I'm really digging my new Apple "Remote", that I've already used to remote control my Powerbook G4, which NEVER had infrared capabilities (now I don't even have to point!) and I can control my AppleTV without even being in the same room (for those excellent vibes of background mood music). Moreover, I can use my Bluetooth headphones to listen to music on my iMac from the next room (using my iPhone to jump to whatever audiobooks or podcasts I have ready to serve up).
It's a tremendously awesome day, and I haven't even looked at the rest of the software. Considering I already have .mac, I'm anxious to see how that will sync my contacts and calendars when its running.
All that, and I'm already decided on getting an iPhone 3G tomorrow. In fact, my boss is buying our three person office iPhones, because he's decided to kick off his Treo and upgrade to this beefy son-of-a-gun (and we sold him over the last year on the benefits). He's going to be very very glad he did. I just hope his phone coverage is comparable for his area... 'cause... having a decent phone is kind of a nice thing to expect from a phone too.
I can't wait to browse the web and talk at the same time. That has been bugging the crap out of me more and more since I got my iPhone. Moreover, all of these apps work so nicely on Wi-Fi, I was stock on EDGE all morning due to a defective iPhone, and it was EXTREMELY disturbing not to have good speed for many of these services that need to call out for data. --Anyway, 3G here I come. As it stands now it is impossible to write an application that runs in the background (to do sync, play music, whatever)... That is how Apple chose to make it and it is the one thing that has me unsure.
I did find a website that lets me sync my google contacts and calendar with push sync, now that was cool and no app needed!

It gets harder and harder for me to defend a company (that I really dig) that does cutting edge stuff (like visual voicemail, the way it handles apps in the background, multi-touch, mobile safari, etc.) and yet they fail to understand the basic need for things like copy/paste, voice dial, and MMS.
I would expect a 2.0 upgrade to do a lot of little things to the OS. Things like being able to open links to new windows in Safari, etc. It's the sum total of the little things.
