It's day #1.

The number of applications in the App Store is only going to grow from here out, and as the software developers become more familiar with how their apps perform in the real world, the coding is only going to get better. So hopefully you'll see bug fixes for your eBook problems soon and be able to see how easily the upgrade process works.

I wouldn't judge the whole iPhone 2.0 upgrade just on my experiences from today.

thats what i was going to say,
but yeah its barely day one the apps are giong to grow insanely, like when they first launch itunes do you think they had millions of songs and that was it? no they started off with a few then it grew to what it is today

It gets harder and harder for me to defend a company (that I really dig) that does cutting edge stuff (like visual voicemail, the way it handles apps in the background, multi-touch, mobile safari, etc.) and yet they fail to understand the basic need for things like copy/paste, voice dial, and MMS.
No cut & paste. It's a bummer, but its a UI problem they're approaching slowly. WinMo didn't officially get it until this year, and its on version 6. MMS is a relic connected to extra charges. More phones need to support real e-mail, or IMs with attachments. Voice dial. Soon for free? Posted July 11th to App Store.

I would expect a 2.0 upgrade to do a lot of little things to the OS. Things like being able to open links to new windows in Safari, etc. It's the sum total of the little things.
FYI. Bookmarklet :"Tabulate". Super-easy to use.

I agree. The omission of standard pda/phone capabilities (more than a year after iPhone's initial launch) makes no logical sense. I read somewhere that they are having trouble integrating copy/paste while keeping it intuitive, but voice dial??!! MMS??!! Come on Apple! These should be no-brainers for the development team. So what good does it do to make the public wait?

And why are there no video recording Apps available for sale? We know the iPhone is capable... so why can't we utilize that awesome camera for video?

I know I'll probably get blasted for saying this, but I don't care. I am really feeling letdown after installing 2.0 on my iPhone plus I'm rather disappointed in the Apps I've downloaded. As far as 2.0, the only real feature I've seen that is useful is mass email deletes. So we've basically waited one year for that. As far as Apps, my number one interest in Apps was for a good eBook reader. I've downloaded two of the ones available and even paid for one of them and neither work. I paid for BookZ but everytime I try to open a file it crashes. Plus if you go to the website and author entries on iTunes, the links don't work. I feel like I've wasted my money on that one (granted it was very cheap). As far as eReader, whenever I try to install books from their website the download fails also. The other App I downloaded was AOL Radio. It is a nice App BUT you can't do anything else on your iPhone while listening to music. So no browsing on the web or reading eBooks or anything while listening. Another letdown. Other than that, I didn't see a whole lot of other Apps I was interested in. I could care less about playing games. Anyway, this has really put a damper on my feelings towards the iPhone. I sure am glad I'm not buying a 3G.

I agree with you about the AppStore. I was disappointed that so many apps were amateur-ish, I was hoping more apps and games from bigger developers. Only few apps were useful - for example I was expecting some GPS apps and I didn't find any. Overall, most apps were just simple and okay, not something I would pay for. But it's only the beginning, hopefully in the future we will see more useful and proper apps.

No. I'm not feeling letdown. This seems like a great update for the iPhone/iTunes store!

I dont think i would call it a let down but more of a "What i want is not available yet" feeling. I want summerboard like app so i can customize my phone.

I also want more stable apps as well as a more stable OS/Firmware. It seems to me like it is not as stable an snappy as before.
