Apple said the WiFi version would ship at the end of March. That was off, turned out to be early April.

And yet, they still announced pre-orders on March 5th (saying they'd start on March 12th).

Here it is the ELEVENTH and we still haven't even seen the pre-pre-order announcement! The iPad was delayed a bit when it was March 5th, now it's April 11th, I'm getting worried late April may be wrong, mid-May more of a possibility.

Argh. All speculation, but still. :(

I was at the Apple store in SOHO today and asked a couple of Apple employees about 3G (wondering if I'd find the talkative types others seem to have found). They all gave the same answer: late April or early May. Of course they won't know until day of delivery.

Apple cases were sold out and the clerks had no idea when more were coming. Lack of information about this is irksome, and it also makes me wonder why Apple has chronic supply chain issues.

Anecdotally, there were several iPads waiting for someone to play with them. And a couple of kids at others, resisting mightily when Dad tried to pull them away. The laptop tables were more crowded.

I "pre ordered" mine the first day when I ordered my wifi unit!

If you have not ordered your 3G unit by now, you might be out of luck!

Well, if you live in any other country in the world other than America you can't pre-order. An alarming fact in itself considering Apple said the American 3G launch would occur on the same date as the international WiFi and WiFi+3G launch.

Ok, but the "end of April" you're quoting is specific to the US, so you're now mixing apples and oranges to make your point. What exactly are you "worried" is going to happen?

Eh?

Yeah, I don't think there will be as many "average" people buying the 3G version over the Wifi. The general public probably assumes there is only one version anyway.

I was told that the 3G would not be released until the wifi issues were resolved in the wifi only units. It makes sense for apple to do this that way. They don't want the same problems with those as they are having with the wifi's. At least that's what the apple rep told me on the phone a few days back when we were troubleshooting my wifi.

Why would that matter? The 3Gs are already built. They are not going to open every last one just to fix the wifi issues.

If it's a software issue like they think they will have to fix it with a patch before they release them, it wouldn't be that big of a deal to apple. And they wouldn't have to open anything.

Frankly though, I don't think there will be initially too many "average" people buying the WiFi iPads as well. I would expect the good portion of people interested in iPad to actually be quite cognizant of the differences between the WiFi and 3G models.

I am not worried at all. It will get here soon enough and in a few months or so no one will really remember that the 3G was released at a later date--at least it won't be a nagging memory I mean.

I called Apple the other day and they said there were no delays on the 3G iPad and it would ship late April. They said they would be announcing the date "very, very soon." I'll be surprised if we don't have a date by Wednesday.

Well, since Wednesday is 4/14, that's almost 'late April' (which I define as the second half of April: 4/16), but I don't think we will know anything about 3G until the website or our pre-ordered 3G's change to a date or 'prepared for shipping' or whatever.

Also, remember that there was the whole 'delayed until 4/12' for preordered WiFi orders for the second batch, and a lot of people (or anyone, depending on location) could walk into an Apple Store last Sunday and pick up a WiFi unit.

I pre-orded a 3G, and decided to get a WiFi (only) to keep at work. I spent 20 minutes in line in Reston, VA last weekend, three minutes in the store, done. YMMV.

I have no idea if the 3G deal is different because there is a backlog on the 3G module, or the back-shell, or it's only because of marketing, etc.

But I don't think we have any info to go on until after we see 3G units roll out. We all thought there would be a shortage of WiFi's, and, like I said, AFAIK, you can walk into an Apple Store, and get them in most places last weekend and now.

Is patience a virtue? Not in these threads!

Nothing but speculation and needless worry. There has been nothing, I repeat nothing to cause anyone any concern.

Apple will deliver as promised so quit starting pointless threads that cause needless pandemonia in the community..

Has anyone here heard of a thing called patience? If they have ine would certainly never have guessed that by the amount of hysteria surrounding this release.

After you've received your 3G you can start creating threads about the new iPhone and when that will be delivered!

Just try and relax!

Living outside of the States we have nothing to go off except "late April." I don't see how this is a problem? As far as I'm concerned that's still the case. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it moved into May there has been nothing come out so far to say so.

Even if it does move into May, I don't think I'd be "worried" about it, even if I hadn't already bought one from the States. In the end, it's just a device, and the only reason I bought from overseas is I believe I got it for cheaper than it will be available for come launch in Oz. If not, oh well.
