Even though I have a 3G ordered, I won't mind if Apple says there are real WiFi problems and delay further releases. Then the stock will tank and my limit buy will kick in. :D

Realistically, I think the 3G units are just waiting for FCC approval. They're all build, and ready to ship once they get the regulatory green light.

I may be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure that for Apple to allow people to take out pre orders they must already have FCC approval....

Says who? I've never heard that, and doubt the FCC has the kind of authority to prevent it. I don't think there is anything stopping Apple from taking orders, especially since they aren't collecting money in advance.

Says Wired: http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/01/wondering-why-you-cant-pre-order-the-ipad-it-isnt-legal-yet/. Sorry, I probably should have put this in my first post, I just couldn't find it!

Here's the quote Apple gave before pre-orders were allowed:

Some features and applications are not available in all areas. Application availability and pricing are subject to change. This device has not yet been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.

No...no reason to be worried. Nothing written anywhere that suggests the launch won't be near the end of april.

First off.

The iPad 3G isn't delayed (yet), they always planned to release it after the WiFi version. Actually it might even be ahead of schedule, because they said it would be available "about" 30 days after the WiFi model.

Yes, the "late April" ship date is very annoying, but... It's not "delayed" yet.

As for why? Who knows, maybe they didn't want a compound of issues by releasing them both tat the same time.
