I can't stand it. As being an early adoptee of the iPhone, I don't like the landscape keyboard......i'm all about the portrait keyboard. Nonetheless if I wake up in the morning and want to lay on my side cuz I am still tired, and check my email.....it is impossible to do it comfortably since the landscape view comes up all the time! Can't take it!

If your sick of it too, you should send feedback........strength in numbers people. A protest isn't only won by one person.

I wrote something along the lines of "please make it an option to disable the landscape keyboard in SMS, mail, and notes. A simple on/off switch would do in the settings" - just remember to ask nicely :)

A setting to turn of the accelerometer would be really nice, been wanting that since day one with my iPhone. Don't think Apple will ever add it though :( They don't usually give users options like those.

I remember people on here moaning and moaning about how they wanted it.

Personally, I never use it.

I am an early adoptee of the iPhone as well and I prefer it. I would prefer a landscape lock of sorts much like the Kindle iPhone app.

I prefer landscape as well
Portrait makes the keys too narrow for my fat fingers :-(

Yeah, same here, but just because you don't use it doesn't mean it doesn't get in the way. Another example is my center console on my car is, very small to say the least.....when I put my phone in there the cup holder "bulge" closest to me makes it so that my phone cannot sit fully on it's back....it's slanted. So if I get a message and want to read it right there if I'm at a red light, forget it! Here comes the landscape keyboard.

Also, with me being on the 3G, to get back from the landscape keyboard takes at least 2-3 seconds - frustrating when sending an email or SMS.

Me.

I'm the same way. I wake up slowly, roll over and grab my phone to check emails/sms/twitter and the landscape keyboard is really a pain. I submitted my feedback as well.

I complained about this the day they introduced it.

Every application should have this in its settings:

"Allow rotation - yes/no"

Many 3rd party apps offer this functions (such as Tweetie 2) but the Apple-made apps all lack it. Yes, landscape mode is useful for some things, but never in the Mail or SMS app. Let me turn it off.

I rarely even use landscape mode while texting, in the mail app, or any other apps that support landscape mode.

I like the option to use landscape but i don't use it for everything. I've gotten used to portrait mode for texts but if I'm writing a longer-ish email or taking notes, landscape is much easier for me.

Wow... personally, I wish it were in MORE apps and places , but agree that it would be good to have the option.

OP, No.

In fact, give me the option of landscape everything—homescreen, all apps, and every option to input text—I vastly prefer typing, browsing, and most other iPhone/iPod Touch activities in landscape...

Why?

You prefer seeing 3 e-mails in your inbox instead of 5?

You like seeing 8 lines of SMS instead of 15?

I understand web-browsing in landscape...that's useful. But all the messaging applications? Everything is designed to be 'tall.' Doing it sideways cuts down on what you can see and gains you nothing. It's not like they start stacking e-mails to the left and right to use the wide space logically. No, they just stretch out and suddenly you're just seeing less than you were before.

I find it far more easier to hold in many cases when the phone is help horizontally. It's also the reason I use Cover Flow in the iPod app.

Er...yes. The lines would just be wider instead of taller; the same information would be displayed.

This is the time that I can brag about having 2.2.1!

I don't have landscape mode anywhere but Safari and Calculator! Woohoo!

A little off topic though: With landscape Mail, how come when you turn it landscape the text gets BIGGER? I turned it landscape because I wanted to see MORE, not LESS. There's actually less text on the screen because the text still takes up the same amount of lines, but the screen is shorter, so you can't read as much at a time.
I think that's backwards! When you turn Mail sideways, the text should remain the same size so you can see MORE.

Nothing to brag about, really. You have no choice. You'll never have landscape and a lot of other things while you're on 2.2.1. At least on 3.0 and above, we can "choose" to have either, whatever problem the user may have with that. You never know, Apple may put in an option in 4.0.
