ive owned this iPad for over a month and the screen is impossible to keep clean. i feel like I have a defective screen (the coating is worn off in some places, but want to wait for the stores to open back up).

how do you clean the screen, just using a microfiber cloth isn’t enough and particles are still stuck on the display. Can’t even install a screen protector because of how dirty it is.

I use iKlear travel singles (towelettes) about once a week and its microfiber cloth daily on my iPP and iPhone. Not eating around the iPad helps too.

I’ve used Omnicleanz by Radtech on everything with a screen and more for years. No streaks hazing etc. Non conductive so no need to spray a cloth first. You can spray it directly on the screen and wipe dry. No I don’t work for them.

A spritz if water on a plush microfiber cloth works fine for me. I get fingerprints but not stuck particles... I live with the fingerprints and wipe clean once a week.

Of course the display gets dirty, you touch it all day with your fingers.

You say the coating is worn off, how do you clean it??

Just keep a wallpaper that doesn't really show it. For example, you see the dirt very well on a black wallpaper.

I just use a microfiber cleaning cloth. On that tempered glass screen protector it works great.

I use Whoosh!

If you use your finger as the touch method than its will be impossible to keep clean, you just have to deal with it. If you use a stylus for Contact it is much better but that will leave marks as well and will need clean less. If you use a keyboard with track pad you just extended the cleaning time even more.

I use a microfiber cloth and Whoosh. I have iKlear as well but Whoosh is better and the preferred Apple cleaner now.

Yeah, and now that Whoosh is sold in the 500ml spray bottle, it's a lot more economical.

<tongue-in-cheek>Wash your damn hands!</tongue-in-cheek>
I've never used a screen protector and just keep a microfibre cloth handy for the occasional wipe down.
Something like this:

If you’re referring to fingerprints - then yeah, even with excessive hand washing, not eating before or during use, etc. the screen will get full of your fingerprints, and scrolling streaks from ski oils etc. A slightly damp microfiber is all I have every used. Worked really well.

I’ve also noted that as far as particles go - the dust levels of the environment make a big difference. The cleaner you keep your home, the less dust particles you get on your screen. And, since a significant amount of dust is dead skin and hair, the dustiest areas of your home are the ones you spend the most time in - Home offices, living rooms and bedrooms.

Paperlike actually recommends applying its matte cover in the bathroom right after a hot shower or bath has been taken, because it sucks all the dust particles out of the air.

Also, as others have said - not using dark mode and having a light colored background will help not to see or be bothered by these things in between cleanings.

It is kind of funny, our CEO commented on a colleague’s fingerprint-laden Macbook Pro screen in a meeting a few months ago and said, “Jeez, it looks like an iPad screen!”

I dont know how wise is that idea because though you have dirt and dust particles sucked away by the hot mist and steam in the bathroom it would leave a very foggy screen and not an ideal situation IMO to apply a screen protector. weird how some companies suggest some whacky ideas. lol !!

And I still dont get it Why has Apple still not switched to Sapphire Glass Display even after all these years and when the technology is available to take advantage of ??

A sapphire display the size of an iPad screen would be prohibitively expensive. That’s probably why. Remember way back when in 2015 or something when Apple loaned a bunch of money to GT Technologies to open a factory in Arizona to produce sapphire iPhone displays? They couldn’t meet production size crystal yields and went bust before delivering anything to Apple - there was fraud involved on GT’s part as well, some kind of insider trading on executive level - i.e. they knew going in that they could never meet Apple’s requirements and planned to just extract the stock value before it all went south. It was probably one of Tim’s biggest missteps as CEO so far.

So even for phone sized screens it was ultimately inviable, especially at the scale of volume Apple sells its products. Link - reportedly 3 times more expensive and 67% heavier than the tempered glass used instead. For an iPad a 67% heavier screen would be a huge design compromise as well.

A very uninformed and completely incorrect comment. It helps tremendously when applying a screen protector.

I owned my 2018 12.9 iPP since February 2019 and couldn’t stand how dirty the screen got in daily use. About 6 months ago, I had enough and ordered an iCarez matte finish screen protector. I knew I didn’t want a glass screen cover, as it would add more thickness than I wanted and likely have the same smudging issues. I can say I wouldn’t go back at this point.

This screen protector not only makes it super easy to clean, it offers a layer of protection from scratches and the matte finish helps when using the iPad in bright light situations. It also fits really well, leaving only a slight gap at the edge, which really doesn’t matter since it’s within the unused border.

Just from the standpoint of keeping your screen scratch free, it’s worth having it. I figured I would be passing my iPad Pro down to one of my kids, when I upgrade, so now I’ll be able to give them a device without any scratches on it (I also covered the back of the iPad with a vinyl wrap - even though I mainly use it in the keyboard cover).

Another iCarez Matte screen protector user here. I never have to worry about screen smudges or anything like that. The paper like feel when using the pencil is why I got it. But being able to read next to a bright window, not have smudges, ... completely worth it to me. I've used these on my 10.5, Air 3, and now my 11 Pro.

I liked these matte screen protectors so much I put one on my iPhone.

Heh, I also got a dbrand for the back of my iPad. But I find it still a bit too slippery so I recently discovered Decalgirl and found something I really liked so I have one of those coming in the mail that I can't wait to put on.

I spend 2-3 hours a day reading on my iPad whether it be the news, books, Macrumors, etc.

And like the post above, I was not paid to write this. :p

I ordered a paperlike screen protector a month ago since its also matte ill give it a shot. It has yet to arrive tho. What is strange is that it says the screen will be dirtier because it's rough.

Yeah Sure ! So you let us know what is the correct information.

Get the Mist/fog out of the environment a bit and you should have ideal conditions. It’s just a way to get more humidity and less dust particles.

I find that with the iCarez screen protector, it is far easier to clean, even when it’s really dirty. I’m guessing the PaperLike version is similar. I would have bought one of those, but wasn’t willing to pay for their bigger marketing budget. The iCarez protectors use a premium Japanese film (their words not mine) which I would bet is made at the same factory that PaperLike uses. I think I paid $12 for two protectors from Amazon. I do have a Pencil and it works great on the screen, and like the PL version sounds and feels very much like writing on paper.

I originally posted I was going to give icarez a try. I need more time to keep going all natural. I’ve never put a screen protector on a iPhone or iPad. Sorry for the confusion.
